Overall good location… but staff where not warm welcoming to other nationalists ,which was sad.

Staff are always helpful and cooperative and pleasant. The breakfast is always really pleasant and satisfying with its self serve option. It is good for being vegetarian, but more of a vegan option would be nice too. The rooms are always clean, up to scratch with being well maintained and having comfortable beds at all times. It is a very relaxed stay with very little noise with a great working TV. The lighting and switches to use are very good, many being near the bedside with USB sockets to charge your phone too. One of the best hotels for value, but in hope that prices will not go to high in the future.

I wouldn’t stay here again. The air conditioning unit was loud and made it hard to sleep. The lift felt old and unreliable – not something you want to worry about in a hotel. Overall, the place didn’t feel secure. It was clear parts of the hotel were being rented out for long-term stays, which changed the whole atmosphere and made it feel less like a hotel and more like temporary accommodation. Disappointing experience.

Turned up to check in, faced with steps to reception and no lift, then told lifts not working and offered a 3rd floor room. Said I would have difficulty with that amount of stairs, still only offered 2nd floor. Nobody had contacted me to say lifts were out of action, it was pointed out to me brusquely that it was on the website. I struggled to do the stairs and was so exhausted that I could not attend my business event that evening. I should have refused the room and demanded a refund. Witnessed another customer complaining.
Not good enough, I will be putting in a formal complaint.

Der CheckIn war ein Desaster. Keine Unterstützung hinsichtlich des Parkens. Ich musste einige Kilometer zu Fuss und mir Gepäck zum Hotel laufen. Die Parksituation war zudem sehr unsicher. Mein Memberstatus wurde ignoriert. Ich musste mit schwerem Gepäck in die 5. Etage. Ein Ausfall des Liftes wurde allerdings im Vorfeld kommuniziert. Die Klimaanlage im Zimmer war defekt. Ich fand durch laute Geräusche seitens des Hotels und der Umbegebung keinen Schlaf. Positiv: Die Reinigungskräfte machen einen guten Job. Fazit: Nie wieder!

Lifts broke after the 1st day and being the bank holiday, where not fixed. The other lifts where already out of action due to servicing.
Car park was small so had to use the one by the station, the problem is we couldn't book 24hrs so it looks like we await a charge because of it!

Checked in, toilet out of order (didn’t flush) changed room, room very dirty: carpet was stained with mud in few places, one mattress protector was dirty and stained, when asked reception to replace it with a clean one, they told us that they didn’t have another clean one available and they provided an extra sheet instead.
Kettle out of order as well (yes, we tried everything including inserting the card in its slot) reception promised to replace it in about an hour’s time but that never happened. We had no bedside tables/shelves and two of the lights didn’t work (one night lamp and the bed-top lamp)
The air conditioning unit was very noisy, staff told us “they’re all the same in all rooms”
Utterly disappointing!

this is a nice looking hotel with good facilities. Well presented and clean and tidy. Welcoming staff and good choice of food and drinks although the prices are a little high . I would definitely recommend

Great customer service, front desk staff were amazing, check in process fast, clean room and bathroom, breakfast area very clean, breakfast was amazing especially the coffee machine, order food after 6pm was a great hit because I didn't have to go out for food or drinks.

Dear IHG Customer Services Team,
I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent stay at Holiday Inn Express, Swindon, on 20th March 2025, booking ref 48985162, my membership number: 566770615
As a loyal Platinum member of IHG for over 15 years, I have consistently chosen IHG hotels for my stays and have even recommended them to my company for business bookings—despite the fact that I do not earn points through their authorized travel agency. My preference for IHG has always been based on its high standards of service, but unfortunately, my latest experience fell far short of expectations.
Given IHG’s well-publicized Inclusivity and Diversity Policy and the Ramadan Your Way campaign (https://www.ihg.com/content/gb/en/deals/hotel-offers/ramadan-your-way ), we had anticipated at least a basic provision for Sahoor (pre-dawn meal). However, we were informed that no such arrangements were available. This was quite surprising, considering IHG’s commitment to inclusivity.
Additionally, at the time of booking, I had requested a high-floor room, yet upon arrival, we were told by Chris at reception that the hotel was fully booked, and we were placed on the third floor. If guest preferences cannot be accommodated, it raises the question of why such requests are even taken during booking.
Our disappointment only grew upon entering Room 301—it was noticeably smaller than any hotel room I have ever stayed in, including those in budget hotels. Still, we accepted it and tried to make the best of our stay.
However, the experience took a turn for the worse when the air conditioning was not working. Upon reporting this to reception, Chris informed us that nothing could be done since the hotel was fully booked. There was no maintenance staff available, no portable fans, and no offer to check the issue personally.
On top of that, when I requested extra pillows, I was told it would take one to two hours due to how busy the hotel was. While I understand operational constraints, telling a guest that their requests cannot be accommodated simply because the hotel is full is not an acceptable level of service—especially in a brand that prides itself on hospitality.
To add to these issues:
The room was poorly lit, with most lights not functioning.
There was a blood stain on the bed (unfortunately, I did not take a photo).
The wifi would not work on the desk due to weak signals, and i had to sit on the bed to get wifi signals for my meeting.
I could not sleep due to the warm temperature, making the night extremely uncomfortable.
The only positive aspect of our stay was Tracey at reception in the morning, who was incredibly helpful and kind enough to allow us to check out at 12 PM, as I had an online meeting.
As a professor of business studies, I often use the hospitality industry as a case study for excellent customer service, with IHG and other premium hotel brands being prime examples. Unfortunately, my experience at Swindon contradicted everything I teach about premium customer service and brand loyalty. If a hotel anticipates high occupancy, staffing should be planned accordingly so that guests never feel neglected or inconvenienced.
I am attaching some photographs as evidence of the issues encountered. I sincerely hope IHG will address these concerns and take corrective action to restore my faith in the brand.
