Things to do

Cabo da Roca

Cabo da Roca, Estrada do Cabo da Roca,

Cabo da Roca is the most westerly point of Europe, a place that will surprise and allow you to get closer to nature. There is a lighthouse and various facilities on site, and the tourist bureau will supply visitors with a document certifying that they have been there.

Palacio da Pena

Commissioned by Dom Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha in the first half of the 19th century, this palace is one of the world’s earliest examples (and the first of its kind in Europe) of the Romantic architectural style prominent during that period. The surrounding landscape is as impressive as the building itself. From here you can enjoy breath-taking views of Pena Park and the region as a whole.

Boca do Inferno

Boca do Inferno is a fascinating place in Cascais. Its name relates to the size and sheer force of the huge waves that batter these shores in winter. Literally translated as the Mouth of Hell, Boca do Inferno is the remains of an ancient cave with its wide-open mouth jutting into the sea in the form of an archway, through which the Atlantic waves crash relentlessly. With features as unique as this, visitors can only marvel at such an incredible spectacle and enjoy the magnificent sunsets.

Guincho Beach

Part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, Guincho Beach is endowed with a surrounding landscape of great beauty in which the white sand dunes contrast with the deep tones of the Serra de Sintra hills, looming in the background. Given both its strong winds and waves, the Beach attracts a great following among bodyboarders and surfers. Throughout summer, there is generally a good northerly wind ensuring Guincho Beach is excellent for windsurfing.
