Santa Ana City

66 Km west from San Salvador, Santa Ana,

Go to Santa Ana City, located 65km west of San Salvador, where you can admire the Cathedral and the National Theatre, both built at the turn of the 20th century. The colonial and indigenous city of Chalchuapa, one of the northern hemisphere's first human settlements (1,200 years BC), is particularly worthy of a visit. Go with a tour guide to learn all about it. This trip will take about half of a day.

Suchitoto

45 km north from San Salvador, Suchitoto, Cuscatlan

Suchitoto is a colonial town with cobblestone streets, antique iron balconies on the windows of colonial houses and panoramic views of Lake Suchitlán. Don't forget to visit Bird's Island at Lake Suchitlan.

Divina Providencia Church

Complejo los Volcanes

Take an adventure in the western part of the country, at the Complejo Los Volcanes. One of it's five trails leads to the Santa Ana Volcano, 7,757 feet above sea level. The Santa Ana volcano is El Salvador's highest mountain.

El Sunzal Beach

National Park El Imposible

Ahuachapan,

El Imposible National Park is located in Ahuachapan and is one of the last dry tropical forests in El Salvador, where more than 250 varieties of birds reside (migratory and endemic), mammals, insects, and the forests own unique vegetation. The park was created in March of 1989, and it is well known for its biological and cultural richness, as well as for its economic importance to the neighboring communities.

Tazumal

Chalchuapa, Santa Ana

Tazumal is a Maya archeological site in Chalchuapa and is considered the most important ruins in El Salvador. The artifacts found here provide evidence of ancient and active trade with places as far away as Panama and Mexico and shows evidence of being influenced by Copán in Honduras. The site also shares some elements that are more characteristic of central Mexican sites, such as Teotihuacan and the Toltec style architecture at Tula.
