Hotel Highlights

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places and housed within America's first Union Station, our hotel is popular for its authentic Pullman train car guest rooms resting on their original tracks. Guests can still hear the muffled rumblings of trains passing through. Crowne Plaza Union Station is still adjacent to an active Amtrak train station.

Unique Property, but Beware the Trains

February 24, 2015

This hotel is a unique property built inside the former Union Station in Indy. The property has interesting architecture with exposed steel beam arches in the rooms and walkways. First impression from the outside wasn't great, as one of the sliding doors was broken. But the inside is quite nice and clean. Check-in took a couple of minutes, as the clerk was busy handling some overflow from room service (busy probably due to cold temperatures). The room was nice and comfy, but on the 3rd floor West side, you could hear people using the indoor pool on the first floor, but the trains on a nearby track. A little rumble would have been OK, but the Amtrak trains made the room shake like an earthquake. It happened 3-5 times during our 14-hour stay.

If you stay here, be prepared and request a room on the North side (side farthest from the train).

Great downtown location!

February 20, 2015

The hotel is located near all the "downtown Indy action" and the Convention Center/Skywalk. The valet service was prompt. The hotel was very clean. And, the staff was great! We enjoyed our stay and will choose this hotel the next time we stay in Indy.

Oddly Long Check In

February 19, 2015

Check in took longer than any other hotel check in I have ever encountered when I am the only guest in sight. I have actually checked in quicker at other hotels that had a line of people to check in. I am a rewards club member and I stood by the sign saying that my express check in for club members started there while I went through a very non-express check in.

First room smelled of tobacco smoke. Thankfully it was much quicker to switch rooms than check in.

The remainder of the stay was nice. Didn't even mind when the restaurant lost power and our meal was delayed. Nice beds.

My girlfriend loved the train first. What I wasn't told, and we soon found that the car itself (so the whole room) will shake when on of the active trains passes through (or over?) the station/hotel. The desk clerk could not tell me the times that the trains passed nor did she offer ear plugs. She did offer a small credit and moved us to another room for the next night. Unfortunately, the other room was CLOSER to the train track and though not a train-car still shook and was disturbingly loud.
The staff and (others?) were setting up for a NFL Draft event the following day and in so doing left stuff (supplies, decals, etc.) just lying around the lobby. I liked the little "spa"-kit which is just an aroma-spray and two types of lotion, but it was a nice extra that you don't normally get with a standard room.
All in all, I will not be back there...I wonder why they even made it a hotel. That said, I still generally like the Crowne Plaza brand and will probably try other CP's in the future
