Local Tips

Local Tips

Must See

Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, about a mile from the hotel, has scores of listed buildings within its boundaries, along with over 100 jewellery shops. You can admire the architecture as you shop for something sparkly and browse art galleries. Take a break at one of the area's many bars and cafés, or have a picnic in Georgian St. Paul’s square, which bursts with flowers in summer.

What's New

There’s always something new at IKON, a contemporary art gallery less than half a mile from the hotel. Set in a Neo-Gothic former school building, IKON hosts rotating art exhibitions and guest speakers. It also aims to engage the community with special events, such as recent “Instameets” gatherings which encouraged locals to snap and submit photos for an exhibition. Admission is free.

Tips

Thanks to the hotel's central location in Birmingham, you can walk to most attractions – just ask our friendly staff for a map and directions. Grand Central train station is a main line station and trains are available to most main cities in the UK. If you're keen to explore the West Midlands area, you'll find plenty of regional trains, trams and buses.

Must Do

It’s just a five minute stroll from the hotel to The Mailbox, an upscale shopping centre with restaurants and a cinema. You can browse designer fashions at Harvey Nichols or recover from a long day of meetings with a spa treatment. You can also tour Birmingham's BBC headquarters.

Don't Go Home Without

Birmingham's cultural offerings include top-notch theatre and musical performances. Five minutes’ walk from the hotel, Symphony Hall puts on classical performances and hosts major concerts, while the Birmingham Repertory Theatre produces works from new and established playwrights. A 10-minute walk from the hotel, Hippodrome Theatre Birmingham hosts opera, ballet and touring West End musicals.
