Basilica of the Holy Blood

The Basilica of the Holy Blood, elevated to basilica status in 1923, consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel, dedicated to Saint Basil, is Romanesque architecture with ribbed vaults and a 12th-century bas-relief of the Baptism of Christ. Via the Ter Steeghere staircase, you reach the upper chapel, where the relic of the Holy Blood is kept. The chapel features 19th-century Neo-Gothic decor. The museum houses valuable artworks, including the Great Shrine by Jan Crabbe (1614).

Demonstrations and various courses are organized in the lace workshop on the second floor.

Beguinage

Begijnhof 24-28-30, Brugge, 8000

The 'Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde' with its white-coloured house fronts and tranquil convent garden was founded in 1245. This little piece of world heritage was once the home of the beguines, emancipated lay-women who nevertheless led a pious and celibate life. For centuries, the Bruges beguinage has been inhabited continuously. Today, some nuns from the Order of Saint Benedict and Order of Vincent de Paul live there, as well as single women from Bruges.

Lake of Love

A romantic hotspot par excellence! Once people believed that water nymphs (“minnen” in Dutch) lived here, and thus the lake acquired its name. Add to that a tragic love story, mysterious trees and an abundance of greenery and you get a place overflowing with romance. How about an Instagram post? The finest photos can be taken from the Lake of Love bridge, or by the Lockhouse. A hit even without filters.

Church of our Lady

The 115.5 metre-high brick church tower, the second tallest of the world, illustrates the craftsmanship of the Bruges builders. Inside you can find a wealth of art treasures, with Michelangelo’s world-famous Madonna and Child as the absolute highlight.
