Dazu stone carvings were first excavated in the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, flourished in the Song Dynasty, and increased in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Dazu stone carvings are famous for their grand scale, exquisite carvings, diversified themes, rich connotations and complete preservation. It is now a world cultural heritage. It takes only 30 minutes by high-speed railway from downtown.

The canyon is 5 kilometres long and 200-500 metres deep, like a giant knife cutting through the mountain. It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach Wulong by train from the city.
