The Metropolitan Park of León is a Protected Natural Area of ​​337 hectares which are dominated by 85% of the dam's vessel, which is why it encourages the flowering of animal and plant life; Pelicans, Canadian and wild ducks, herons, gulls, cormorants, ibises and more than 204 species among migratory birds and residents.

The Zoological Park of León was founded on September 19, 1979. The fauna collection began with some birds of the region, white-tailed deer, domestic ducks and horses, to later add species of herbivorous animals to the ZooLeón family. With the passage of time the Zoo began to establish relationships with Zoological Associations at a national and international level which motivated to make changes in the infrastructure and design of the exhibitors.
