For an outstanding introduction to Bahrain's history and culture, visit the National Museum, a short drive from the hotel. Look out for archaeological finds from the ancient Dilmun civilization, and a vast satellite photo of the entire country.
A short walk from the hotel, the Avenues mall stretches for 1.5km along Manama's seafront. This huge shopping and entertainment complex features international stores, a play hall and 10 cinemas, as well as restaurants and cafés overlooking Bahrain Bay.
An earthy contrast to the city's glitzy malls, Manama Souq offers a traditional Arabic market experience. Beyond the famous Bab al-Bahrain archway you’ll find a warren of stalls selling everything from gold jewelry and perfume to exotic spices.
The ancient ruins are 5 civilizations deep at the site of Bahrain Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and 11 minutes' drive from your hotel. As you wander the atmospheric excavations of residential, commercial, public, military and religious buildings, contemplate this: humans have continuously inhabited this site since 2300 BC.
Before you leave, be sure to visit the nearby Al Fateh Mosque, which has room for up to 7000 worshippers. Take a guided tour to discover Italian marble and Indian teak, walls decorated with Kufic calligraphy and the world’s largest fiberglass dome.
