stayed here in July 2017 for 2 nights, and despite problems with the aircon I think this is the best Crowne Plaza I've stayed in. Was greeted by Joanna on reception who immediately acknowledged my
IHG membership and advised they were upgrading me to a lovely studio room on the fourth floor with club level access and free minibar. This, of course, delighted me that the hotel really took seriously the membership loyalty to IHG. the room was beautiful and spacious with two double beds. Unfortunately the aircon broke down and with record temperatures it became too hot, even with fans provided so we moved the next day to the same style room on the third floor. however because of our inconvenience of having to move rooms the deputy manager, Mrs Steiner, spoke with me and arranged for some drinks to compensate. We also had an issue with timing for breakfast, having been told it was 1030 close and turning up at 1015 to find it was 1000 close! the staff in the restaurant could not have been more helpful, ensuring we managed to have a full and hearty breakfast. The point of telling you the problems is to acknowledge the wonderfully trained and competent staff, a credit to the deputy manager Mrs Steiner, and the manager. The staff provide a true IHG experience and service at a level I normally see in the intercontinental brand, staff from other crowne plaza hotels should come to Heidelberg to see how it's done!
The hotel has an excellent location just 10 - 15 mins walk from the old town and then you can reach the funicular railway to the castle. the hotel is also just 5 mins walk from a square where buses converge so you can reach parts of the city. the city is beautiful and you need at least 3 days here to visit all that it can offer, we didn't make a boat trip on the river, but did manage to find the absinthe shop!
there is a fitness room with all the normal equipment, although slightly disconcerting that people can watch you train as they pass by! Despite the hotel being on a busy road the rooms are quiet. the club lounge is well worth using, branded drinks and a lovely selection of cold and hot food in the evening and snacks at other times.
will definitely revisit, not least to say thanks to the staff and to receive another lovely welcome! [Less]
