You may take the elevator down for a one-mile underground stroll around the perimeter of the Big Room, which is the size of 14 football fields! Or you walk down the natural entrance which is 750-ft below ground.

Living Desert State Park and Zoo

See a large collection of live animals, including the rare Mexican gray wolf, and the roadrunner, New Mexico's state bird.

RiverWalk Recreation Center

Located along the Pecos River that runs through town, this center provides a wide range of activities for the family. Racketball, basketball, pool, video games, etc. Just outside of the center there is a skate park, and a hockey area, for the children they have Project Playground, which is a castlelike playground which includes swings, slides, a tire swing and lots of fun. During summer the center is open everyday. Please call for winter hours.

Sitting Bull Falls

Seven miles southwest of State Highway 137 on Route 276, this 130-foot falls is one of the highest in New Mexico. Picnic area, trails, and restroom is available and is wheelchair accessible. This is definitely worth going to see, the sites are absolutely beautiful. If you like hiking, there's trail that goes up and you can find different pools of water. Please remember there is parking fee of $5.

Brantley Lake State Park

Brantley Lake State Park is located 12 miles north of Carlsbad on U.S. 285, the campground has 51 sites with water and RV electrix hookups, a dump station, playground, restroom with hot showers, shelters. tables, and grills. Other facilities include picnic areas with sheltered tables and grills, playground, a fishing dock, boat ramps with docks, and a visitor center. Lincoln National Forest

The forest emcompasses 285,000 acres for hiking, caving, camping, picniking, horseback riding, hunting, and sightseeing. Maps are availabe at the Guadelupe Ranger District Office, located in the Federal Building, in Carlsbad.
