In the heart of the Old Town, buzzing Marienplatz is Munich’s charming central square. The neo-Gothic New Town Hall overlooks the square and offers city views and mountain glimpses from its observation deck. Stay to watch the famous Glockenspiel and its historic daily show of moving figurines. Restaurants and shops cluster nearby, and there are many cosy cafés for coffee and cake.
The expansive Englischer Garten is the perfect place for cycling, running or a gentle stroll. Revel in the peaceful surroundings of green meadows and tree-lined rivers with waterfalls. Boaters can head out to the lake, and diehard surfers will find a challenge in the Eisbach standing wave. On sunny days, the lawns are popular for picnics, and the beer garden by the Chinese Tower fills up quickly.
Don't Go Home Without
Take a short drive to the BMW Museum, home to an array of fascinating exhibits about the iconic German carmaker. Set in a futuristic steel building, the museum showcases more than 100 vintage vehicles, contemporary models and race cars, plus motorbikes and engines. In the same complex, you can see displays of classic Rolls-Royce and MINI cars at BMW Welt - another architectural masterpiece.
If you want a break from touring Munich’s historic sights, head to Therme Erding, a 25-minute drive from the hotel. You can spend a whole day unwinding in this expansive hot springs resort. Take a dip in the palm-lined lagoon with its own man-made beach, soak in a thermal pool or relax in one of several saunas. Kids love the splash pool, and there’s also a water park with daring slides.
