Five Civilized Tribes Museum

1101 HONOR HEIGHTS DRIVE, MUSKOGEE, OK 74401

This museum features the history & artwork of the Five Civilized Tribes: the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole.The museum showcases some of the highest quality artifacts, sculptures, paintings, and other handmade items of the five tribes. The museum is housed in the old Union Indian agency building built in 1875.

Honor Heights Park

837 EAST OKMULGEE STREET, MUSKOGEE, OK 74401

Agency Hill was officially named Honor Heights Park in 1919 in honor of the soldiers of World War 1. Much of the landscaping was done by George Palmer, an English gardner who moved to Muskogee from New York City in 1912 to become the park's first superintendent. Palmer implemented the landscape design to create a beatiful environment. In April, the park is ablaze with azaleas as visitors flock to the annual Azalea Festival. From Thanksgiving through New Year's Day.

Fort Gibson Historic Site

Anumber of violent episodes on the frontier caused the Army to establish Fort Gibson in 1824. Protecting the Native Americans from each other and from white intruders kept the military busy for most of the next 66 years. The post,built on the Grand River near the Arkansas River, was instrumental in the westward expansion of the United States. The Oklahoma Historical Society interprets those important years using general and living history exhibits, educational programs.

MUSKOGEE LITTLE THEATRE

This performing arts organization, made up of Muskogee citizens, performs a variety of plays and musicals several times a year. The group also works with variuos community nonprofit groups as well as with Muskogee public schools. Senior citizens may participate in the Senior Theatre Troupe while youth can join the Youth Theatre Programs. There are educational opportunities for all age groups.

ILLINOIS RIVER FLOAT TRIPS.

This complete, modern and flexible center can seat 3,622 people or accommodate a sit-down dinner for as many as 800 peolpe in its 10,000-sqare-foot arena. In addition, the Civic Center has meeting/banquet rooms that can seat up to 450 people. The center plays host to concerts, conventions, circuses, basketball games, and many other activities.

This beautiful lake area abounds with recreational activities. The 26-mile-long lake is an excellent playground for those who love swimming, sailing, canoeingor watersking. Hunters can enjoy the 17,300-acre public hunting area full of deer, quail,dove,geese, rabbit and squirrel. Located around the lake are a number of parks and marinas. Campers will find nature trails, picnic areas, drinking water, restrooms and campsites. The lake offers prime fishing for black and white bass and catfish.

THOMAS FREEMAN HISTORICAL HOME.

1419 WEST OKMULGEE STREET, MUSKOGEE, OK 74401

This home was built in 1898 by John R. Thomas, a federal judge from 1897-1901. His daughter, Carolyn, married his law partner, Grant Foreman. Together, they became outstanding authorities on Oklahoma history and the Five Civilized Tribes, on which they wrote 27 books and numerous magazine articles.

ATALOA LODGE MUSEUM

2299 OLD BACONE ROAD, MUSKOGEE, OK 74401

Located on the Bacone College campus, this museum was constructed in 1932 as an art lodge. The building was named after Mary Stone McLendon, "ATALOA", whose efforts helpedbuild the lodge. Ataloa's wishwas that the building be filled with traditional crafts. Today, it houses one of the finest, privately owned collections of traditional and contemporary Native American art in the country. Most of the items were donated by former students, faculty and friends.

WAGONER CITY HISTORICAL MUSEUM

122 SOUTH MAIN STREET, WAGONER, OK 74467

This museum collects, repairs and preserves old clothing. It houses 2,000 garments and 60 adorned dresses. There are also collections of other historical memorabilia locatedthroughout the museum. Wagoner City Historical Museum is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., or by appointment.

Muskogee celebrates its rich, multicultural history at the Three Rivers Museum in the beatifully restored mission-style Midland Valley Railroad Depot. Located where the Arkansas, Verdigris and Grand rivers meet, the Three Rivers region was one of the first areas west of the Mississippi to be settled and developed. It captures all that is colorful and dynamic of the American West. That American story is told at the Three Rivers Museum in Muskogee's historic Depot District.

U.S.S. BATFISH SS-310.

STATE HIGHWAY 165, NORTH OF U.S. HIGHWAY 62, MUSKOGEE, OK 74401

This submarine, named for a ferocious species of fish from the West Indies, was launched in 1943. It experienced unparalleled success in World War 11, sinking three submarines and 11 other vessels. The ship received nine Battle Stars and her crew received one Navy Cross, four Silver Stars and 10 Bronze Stars.
