Things to do

Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area

Flaming Gorge NRA has over 600 camping and picnic units, two visitor centers, over 200 miles of trails, a 165 mile scenic driving loop. Outdoor recreation is the best reason to visit the Gorge. There is something for everyone, expecially families. From an exciting raft trip to a leisurely scenic drive, the choices are endless. Fishing is world class with a variety of trophy fish, including hefty Macinaw (lake) trout, rainbow trout, smallmouth bass and delicious Kokanee salmon.

Oregon and Historical Trails

To travel the Oregon Trail, begin at either South Pass State Historical Park or the Forth Bridger State Historic Park. From Sough Pass, travel along Wyoming Hwy. 28 toward Green River, then follow Wyoming 372 south to I-80. Take I-80 west to Fort Bridger. The Oregon Trail in Wyoming is actually four National Historic Trails in one corridor--Oregon, Mormon Pioneer, California and Pony Express. Roadside turnouts with interpretive signs describe the various events along the Oregon Trail.

Wild Horse Scenic Loop

County Road 4-53, Wyoming

Watch for wild horses between Rock springs and Fourteen-Mile Hill and all across the top of White Mountain. Although there is little vegetation, there is an abundance of wildlife such as antelope, deer, rabbits, coyotes, hawks, eagles and sage grouse. The self guide drive takes about 2.5 hours and totals about 50 miles. About 24 miles of the tour are on gravel road, but it is a remote area with limited cell phone service. Roads are maintained only from May to October.
