The Trinidad History Museum, a complex that includes three separate museums and a fabolus garden, represents the most significant aspects of Trinidad's history. Felipe Baca was a prominent Hispanic farmer and businessman whose 1870s residence, Baca House, has period furnishings. Displays convey a mix of Anglo (clothes, furniture) and local Hispanic (santos, textiles) influences.

Trinidad Lake State Park is nestled in the foothills of the Culebra Range of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southern Colorado. The 2,500-acre park, at an average altitude of 6,300 feet, offers a spectacular backdrop for a wide variety of recreational activities. Nine miles of trails wander through the piñon and juniper forests at the park, which is part of the Purgatoire River Valley. Trinidad's 800-acre lake offers ample opportunities for boating and fishing.

The River Walk Trail makes a loop around the Purgatoire River. Begin the loop by crossing the bridge behind the Visitor's Center and turning right. The level gravel trail follows the original coal camp railroad bed for 100 yards and passes by the foundations of the "New Town" section of the camp.

The Trinidad Visitor Center offers free brochures on all of Trinidad's landmarks, the unique geology of the region, and other aspects of Colorado history. The Welcome Center is staffed by very knowledgeable and friendly people to help with all needs and questions.
