Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lucky coincidence I am working in the area for a total of 5 weeks and have booked the hotel for all of those 5 weeks. On departure last Thursday morning I informed the reception that I had a booking for Sunday 24th nov for 5 nights and that unusually I would be checking in around 8am on the Monday morning as I am working nights, the lady on reception made a note on the booking and I went to work. Unfortunately my night shift for that Sunday got cancelled and a colleague of mine who is also staying at the hotel informed the reception on the morning of the 25th that I would be checking in now on the morning of the 26th. On doing this it was realised that my booking had been cancelled as a no show! I can only say that if I had turned up after having worked a nightshift and my booking had been cancelled I would have been furious, especially as I had taken the necessary steps to avoid this situation. I have contacted the hotel to let them know and was not offered much in the way of an apology and any assurances that this won't happen again tomorrow morning, this makes me nervous! 25 November 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Fabulous views of Castle Not our most enjoyable stay - couldn't get our preferred room (621) and one of the beds in the room we had was extremely hard - my partner and I had to swap half way through the first night! Nevertheless, Edinburgh City West still remains our favourite hotel in Edinburgh and the views, particularly of the castle, cannot be bettered. 21 November 2013

Very friendly staff particularly the restaurant and bar staff. Great breakfast! Great view from the room with a fantastic bed. Will definitely visit again. 19 November 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Restraurant waiting staff All appeared to be trained like robots, no individuality and no locals. Too pushy and were trying too hard to offer more, more. No kippers for breakfast, staff did not know had to ask(chef?) This is Edinburgh the capital of Scotland where kippers are a traditional element of breakfast, really amazing! Really disappointed to see 10% service charge on meal! Platinum card holder who will not return. 09 November 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed but avoid restaurant food and service We stayed here for one night after spending a week at other hotels (budget ones). It was definitely the poorest of the lot despite being the most expensive! The beds were very comfortable and it was quiet and clean. But the tv didn't work properly and even after having an engineer come out to mend it, the same problem still existed even though they said it was fixed. No CBBC or CBeebies for our 2 kids for the entire stay. The restaurant had a buffet on the night we were there. It was a curry buffet and the beef curry was possibly the worst we've ever eaten. Very tough, cheap meat with some chickpeas thrown in and not much of a sauce. The service was dreadful and there seemed to be a lot of staff standing together without doing much, one of whom couldn't speak English (or Scottish!). It wasn't a particularly relaxing or attractive room and they sat everyone together despite plenty of space. The children had to wait a long time for their meals, and a ridiculously long time just for a bowl of ice cream. I think this hotel survives on reputation of the Holiday Inn brand. There are much better ones out there. But if you avoid the restaurant it is bearable. 04 November 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 2 night b & b + 1st night dinner offer When I rang to inform we would be late checking in, we were advised to get a 44 bus from the train station as taxis are quite expensive. However we couldn't find the bus stop (it was dark and windy and we were tired# so had to pay £10 for a short taxi ride. The evening meal: the maitre d' didn't ask if we were on the 'offer' #he produced a bill for us at the end# and we also had to ask our waitress what on the menu was included in the price - we had to wait an unreasonable amount of time to be served initially and between courses #I did complain and we got a free drink#. We were having a drink inn the bar before retiring and the fire alarm went off - it was freezing outside, they eventually provided some 'silver foil' wraps, but there were lots of children in the hotel #1/2 term hols# so not enough to go around. We got the hang of the bus service #£3.50 all day pass# and found this great - it took about 10 minutes to get to Princes Street. The inclusive breakfast had a varied choice - as much or as little as you wanted and was very good, however dirty pots weren't cleared away to vacate tables. 04 November 2013

Would have used the internet and the movie service but it was way too expensive. lots of hotels now offer free wi=fI £3.00 Per day would be ok and a fiver for a movie for the kids would be acceptable. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very clean,comfortable room,quiet at night Stayed in a mini suite with our 2young children .was spacious and comfortable and very clean.had everything we needed.only improvement would be a curtain or door between lounge and bedroom to make it easier when putting children to bed early.breakfast ok but lots of things had run out at 9am when we got there which was frustrating.staff very welcoming and friendly in hotel and happy to help.free parking a bonus for Edinburgh.hotel near to our friends so suits us but approx 1.5miles to centre so bear this in mind if you want to be centrally located. 31 October 2013

Rooms were comfortable and staff were friendly and helpful in sorting out taxis and anything else we needed. It was only a 10 minute taxi ride into the centre at less than £10 which was worth it to stay at a hotel outside the city centre with ample parking. I would go here again when we return to Edinburgh. 29 October 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent evidence of good customer service training from all international staff employees This hotel is commendable in its evident attention to the importance of its employees customer relations, as representative of the hotel brand and reputation. Polite, friendly, helpful staff were encountered throughout our stay, and we returned, at short notice, as we were so satisfied with the service received. Of particular note, was the concern of housekeeping, for my welfare, when a 'do not disturb' note was left on my door all day. This was simply due to compilation of a last minute feature deadline, but, had this not been the case, then any adverse circumstances and/or medical requirements, would have been detected much more quickly than at any other hotel previously used for business visits. Conversely, having received several very poor quality meals at this hotel, I would recommend guest enjoy the great breakfast, and seek a good lunch/evening meal elsewhere. 20 October 2013

The rooms are comfortable, mine in particular had magnificent views of Edinburgh Castle. The location is excellent with Edinburgh City Centre only two miles away (and the airport only eight). I would recommend this gem of a hotel to any guest, whatever their age. 04 October 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Beautiful hotel but very overpriced The comfort and service at this hotel was first class and I could not fault your establishment on this but I do have to say that I found the prices to be very expensive. I understand it is a hotel and in edinburgh but when you have a function on and have 60 or 70 people there, there is no need to charge the prices asked at the bar. £4.55 for a single measure of Smirnoff Vodka is an absolute disgrace no matter where your hotel is. For this reason I rated the stay lower as this was the purpose of our stay to attend the function in the hotel on the night. 02 October 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Blood and bad food We arrived at this Holiday Express at about 5 in the evening. We were greeted, given room keys, and when asked if we wanted breakfast, we agreed, as our flight was early the next morning. We were charged 35 pounds, or $56 American. A little steep, but it was for three people, so I though it would be ok. I was wrong. The next morning we were rushed to our table in the breakfast area, and told that it was a buffet. As we worked our way down the buffet line, we noticed that out of all of the items at breakfast, eggs were missing. Not a huge deal to some, but we are vegetarian, and how hard is it to make eggs anyway? Earlier in the morning, I had gotten into the shower, and noticed that there was blood in the walls of the shower, and on the curtain in several places. Warning my fiancee and my mom of the bio-hazard, I proceeded to take pictures of the blood to show to management. We went to the management that morning as we checked out, and got the breakfast refunded (small consolation, but it was at least something). Obviously, we will not be staying again, here or at any Holiday Inn. 21 September 2013

Wé only had a little time for exploring thé city and thé buses in and out were frequent, cheap and stopped outside the hotel. We stayed on DBB basis and enjoyed really good meals and the deal we secured online was superb value for money. 05 September 2013
