Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First class in every way to be fair it was one of the best stays I have had great customer service from all and the best GM in Holiday Inns UK The GM was on hand to welcome me as a valued guest and arranges a weekly cocktail drinks meetings to listen to customers on how they can improve the service Without a shadow of doubt the GM at this hotel is in the wrong job as he should head up the UK business for IHG A great stay and a team that care you your every need Yo will not go wrong staying here for sure 12 December 2013

Room could have done with a thorough clean (skirting boards were stained) apart from that it was good, although I have marked it as a con below. Excellent selection of channels of the flat screen TV, helped keep my grand daughter entertained before breakfast. Poor parking availability! I arrived c20:00 on a Friday night for a weekend break only to find the car park was full. Whilts it is appreciated that there was a Xmas partyu on, I suggest that spaces should be reserved for IHG members (I am Platinum Elite) when they have confirmed reservations. Location was good, a 15min bus ride to city centre. 12 December 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The staff make the difference between a good and an excellent hotel I tend to stick to Holiday Inn when travelling because you know what you're getting. However, the Holiday Inn Edinburgh City West is my favourite because of the attitude of the staff and management at this location. Always a friendly greeting and very courteous and always attempting to make your stay memorable. Particular thanks to Lee who is an excellent ambassador for the hotel. The bar is nice and the food good also and if you're feeling adventurous, the bus into town stops adjacent to the hotel. The Far Pavilions Indian restaurant is 5 minutes walk down towards Stockbridge and is highly recommended. Overall, a nice place to stay if you're away from home, or on a weekend break. 07 December 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It was the Guests that spoiled our stay! Our three night celebration break was excellent - until the last night! I would like to compliment all the staff - front and back of house - for making this a (mostly) pleasant experience. The staff cannot be blamed for our last night being ruined by other noisy, ignorant and inconsiderate guests on the fifth floor preventing us from achieving a decent nights sleep. Unfortunately, the courtesy shown by the staff doesn't rub off on some guests! We will be back - hopefully the idiots wont!! 04 December 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great stay What a great wee escape! We arrived and were greeted by Carmen who was fabulously efficient and booked us in very quickly. Our room, we were upgraded to a mini suite, was beautifully clean and well maintained. The breakfast was fresh and tasty and all the staff were pleasant and efficient. I only had two issues: 1. There is limited parking, we had to be creative and park in front of the bins......others were parked in the fire muster point. 2. If you want a drink in the bar later on (we came in at 12.45 am) you need to have your room card verified with your credit card, which none of our party had, they don't take cash or credit cards only validated room cards :-( All in all an enjoyable stay, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. 28 November 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lucky coincidence I am working in the area for a total of 5 weeks and have booked the hotel for all of those 5 weeks. On departure last Thursday morning I informed the reception that I had a booking for Sunday 24th nov for 5 nights and that unusually I would be checking in around 8am on the Monday morning as I am working nights, the lady on reception made a note on the booking and I went to work. Unfortunately my night shift for that Sunday got cancelled and a colleague of mine who is also staying at the hotel informed the reception on the morning of the 25th that I would be checking in now on the morning of the 26th. On doing this it was realised that my booking had been cancelled as a no show! I can only say that if I had turned up after having worked a nightshift and my booking had been cancelled I would have been furious, especially as I had taken the necessary steps to avoid this situation. I have contacted the hotel to let them know and was not offered much in the way of an apology and any assurances that this won't happen again tomorrow morning, this makes me nervous! 25 November 2013

Nevertheless, Edinburgh City West still remains our favourite hotel in Edinburgh and the views, particularly of the castle, cannot be bettered. 21 November 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Restraurant waiting staff All appeared to be trained like robots, no individuality and no locals. Too pushy and were trying too hard to offer more, more. No kippers for breakfast, staff did not know had to ask(chef?) This is Edinburgh the capital of Scotland where kippers are a traditional element of breakfast, really amazing! Really disappointed to see 10% service charge on meal! Platinum card holder who will not return. 09 November 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed but avoid restaurant food and service We stayed here for one night after spending a week at other hotels (budget ones). It was definitely the poorest of the lot despite being the most expensive! The beds were very comfortable and it was quiet and clean. But the tv didn't work properly and even after having an engineer come out to mend it, the same problem still existed even though they said it was fixed. No CBBC or CBeebies for our 2 kids for the entire stay. The restaurant had a buffet on the night we were there. It was a curry buffet and the beef curry was possibly the worst we've ever eaten. Very tough, cheap meat with some chickpeas thrown in and not much of a sauce. The service was dreadful and there seemed to be a lot of staff standing together without doing much, one of whom couldn't speak English (or Scottish!). It wasn't a particularly relaxing or attractive room and they sat everyone together despite plenty of space. The children had to wait a long time for their meals, and a ridiculously long time just for a bowl of ice cream. I think this hotel survives on reputation of the Holiday Inn brand. There are much better ones out there. But if you avoid the restaurant it is bearable. 04 November 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 2 night b & b + 1st night dinner offer When I rang to inform we would be late checking in, we were advised to get a 44 bus from the train station as taxis are quite expensive. However we couldn't find the bus stop (it was dark and windy and we were tired# so had to pay £10 for a short taxi ride. The evening meal: the maitre d' didn't ask if we were on the 'offer' #he produced a bill for us at the end# and we also had to ask our waitress what on the menu was included in the price - we had to wait an unreasonable amount of time to be served initially and between courses #I did complain and we got a free drink#. We were having a drink inn the bar before retiring and the fire alarm went off - it was freezing outside, they eventually provided some 'silver foil' wraps, but there were lots of children in the hotel #1/2 term hols# so not enough to go around. We got the hang of the bus service #£3.50 all day pass# and found this great - it took about 10 minutes to get to Princes Street. The inclusive breakfast had a varied choice - as much or as little as you wanted and was very good, however dirty pots weren't cleared away to vacate tables. 04 November 2013

Would have used the internet and the movie service but it was way too expensive. lots of hotels now offer free wi=fI £3.00 Per day would be ok and a fiver for a movie for the kids would be acceptable. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very clean,comfortable room,quiet at night Stayed in a mini suite with our 2young children .was spacious and comfortable and very clean.had everything we needed.only improvement would be a curtain or door between lounge and bedroom to make it easier when putting children to bed early.breakfast ok but lots of things had run out at 9am when we got there which was frustrating.staff very welcoming and friendly in hotel and happy to parking a bonus for Edinburgh.hotel near to our friends so suits us but approx 1.5miles to centre so bear this in mind if you want to be centrally located. 31 October 2013

Rooms were comfortable and staff were friendly and helpful in sorting out taxis and anything else we needed. It was only a 10 minute taxi ride into the centre at less than £10 which was worth it to stay at a hotel outside the city centre with ample parking. I would go here again when we return to Edinburgh. 29 October 2013
