Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Visit to Marseille Good hotel, well located near Gare St Charles train station. The bed's mattress was a little hard for my taste. 22 April 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Location Very clean hotel right across from the Train station in Marseille made it easy to check in as soon as we arrived and immediately start our sight seeing trip. Staff was very friendly and helpful. 20 March 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Empfehlenswertes Hotel Wir sind spät mit dem TGV angekommen. 19 March 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent centrally located hotel in Marseille The Holiday Inn Express is directly opposite the main rail and coach station in Marseille - a few metres away The hotel is modern and has a small business centre Our receptionist was charming, super-efficient and very helpful We were upgraded to a room with a terrace - the terrace was very big was flowers growing over the terrace, a small table and chairs and 2 sun-loungers... an excellent sun-trap. The views over Marseille were breathtaking The bed was comfy with a choice of pillows and the bathroom was very smart and well designed Breakfast (included) was very good - a choice of cold meats, cheese and cereals but what really was excellent was the very good bread and amazing pain au chocolate The hotel is on a hill with excellent views of Marseille An excellent place to stay in Marseille. Room Tip: The rooms with panoramic view / terrace are not much more expensive but add a lot to your stay - I would recommend them 19 March 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by H0LIDAY INN...BUT NOT EXPRESS......not as good as before.. Stayed here 3 years ago before this trip. Was first class then. As platinum points member I was disappointed with the welcome, no offer of upgrade, or a comp drink as is usual. When I asked about this I was told I had been given a bigger room as there were three of us. Requested additional pillows from chambermaid, but did not arrive. Requested pillows again from reception an hour later, but did not arrive. Came back to room that evening, still no pillows,,went to reception asking for pillows..was told by receptionist "its on my list to do" .After 6 hours from initial request ,finally got the pillows!!! The reception is very undermanned, and the staff struggle to deal with guests requests. Not enough skilled people on reception to deal with customers. On last day I was trying to pay the bill quickly and leave as we had a train to catch, the receptionist was checking in a guest, who then asked for a map, and the receptionist was then answering questions about points of interest.!!! Very stressful when you are under time constraints.Poor service.. 16 March 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The perfect spot in town! When we first stayed at this hotel years ago, it had just opened a couple of months before - and Marseille was a different city: The cultural capital of Europe fuss was years away - but this city was as vibrant as always, the best from several worlds - Europe, France and Africa among them! If you are used to the very different touch that HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS has in Europa - compared to the United States - you will find those same rooms here as well... but this property offers a list of surprises, you won't find at the neighborhood HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS you are used to: the location is very special as it is situated right next to St. Charles Railway station and on the way to the harbor (a ten minute walk downhill) - so just drop your bags and there you are! But you might want to stay for a moment, as this hotel offers rooms that have a view over the magnificent city and from some of them you can even see the Mediterranean sea at the horizon, not to forget the Frioul Islands and Notre Dame de la Garde, Marseille's signature church on a hill overlooking... everything. And it gets better: Marseille is an outdoor city with more warm days full of Sunshine than any other place in France and so it is no surprise (although it is...) that you'll be able to enjoy breakfast on a spacious terrace, if you feel like it, as we always do! The breakfast itself still offers a better variety than most HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS hotels do in Europe, although the selection lost a bit of its appeal over the years... but the croissants are still fantastic! 11 March 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice and well located city hotel Very well located hotel in the city centre. Rooms are not so large but adequate for a short stay. Staff are very friendly. 12 February 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable and Excellent Very clean; very helpful staff; English speaking staff helped also on information regarding trains and Marseille. 26 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 Modern Hotel This hotel have great services. The only bad point can be the TV Screen that is a little bit small, and channels quality is not good. 21 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable hotel and great position Very good position, the hotel staff is very nice, excellent breakfast. It was a really good holiday 14 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Location, friendly staff We had an enjoyable four night stay with a room with the view of the harbour and Notre Dame de la Gard. Check in was great and we were attended by Mr Reynald who gave us all the info we had wanted to ask. In face all staff were very friendly. The breakfast selection was good, croissants were fresh and excellent. Location was good because it's just opposite Gare St Charles for our day trips by train to Orange, Avignon, Monaco. Also arriving from Marseilles airport the bus stops at Gare St Charles so location is excellent. 11 January 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet room evin if it is very close to Station Air condition (heating) did not work. Safety box does not work properly because of the battery problem. Otherr items are are OK. The price include one breakfast is very reasonable. Also the breakfast quality was fine. 10 December 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly receptionnist but rooms need The receptionnist are kind, at your service but the cleaning staff is a big deception. It is my third week at this hotel. So far so good it was good looking (the very first weeks) BUT when I went on my 3rd week It started to be a nightmare, a big disappointment. The first room (# 610) the shower smell like strong human rejections. In the second room (# 410) I found a plastic cup, certainly for a customer that enjoyed going out, partying. 18 November 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Confortable but with noise The hotel is comfortable, but in front of a main avenue. The traffic provides noise. 01 November 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Relaxing stay The staff were excellent and very helpful. Bedroom was spacious excellent facilities and the bed was amazingly comfy. Would recommend and go back again. 17 October 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent experience, I recommend! Staff was very extremelly nice and hepful at all time (incl. night). The hotel must have been renovated recently as it looked as almost new to me. All areas were nice and very clean. The bar and its terrasses are very pleasant. In general, every aspect is really above average for an hotel of this category. Location is convenient too, in front of the main train station, near Metro and 10-15 min walking distance from the "vieux port". PS: If you stay over the WE, you can easily park your car in the street near the hotel to avoid paying hotel parking (12€). 09 October 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very friendly staff and fast wifi service Very friendly staff and help me to set up baby cot and guide me how to go attractions directly and costly 27 September 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Everything was good except bathroom and "basic" breakfast Bathroom floor did not look clean. Bathroom was smelling badly. The breakfast did not include nice items: no cereal bread, no green tea, no natural yaourts....no fresh fruits...the room was spacious and clean. The staff was very nice. I stayed in better location in Marseille. So I would not say it's a good value hotel. 19 September 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by a comfortable stay My mother and I enjoy staying at this hotel so much that this was our 4th visit. We find the hotel's location ideal, so close to the train, metro, and bus station and a leisurely walk to the city's attractions. On this visit, we were on the 8th floor. Our room was absolutely spotless and this was maintained throughout our stay. The organisation of the breakfast buffet and the number of choices is perfect for us. The breakfast staff members were really friendly and helpful. The hotel's facilities are fine; however, one thing we have noticed is that there are some maintenance issues. The hotel was brand new on our first visit, but over the years some of the fittings seem a little tired. For example, a missing tile in the public bathroom and the toilet seat in our room was not fixed on one of the hinges. In addition to this, a few of the personal touches present on our first and second visit have disappeared. We received a piece of Marseille's famous soap on our departure on our first visit, but not our subsequent ones. On this visit, the person who checked us out didn't even wish us a bon voyage. On our first and second visit the rooms had biscuits / little cakes included with the tea and coffee. These are no longer there. Despite these relatively minor points, we had a delightful stay. 08 September 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely modern hotel for a couple nights The hotel exceeded our expectations - very high quality cleaning service, comfortable beds and spotless linen, no noise (near the station), tea / coffee making facilities in the room, full breakfast - all for a reasonable price. 06 September 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Good location! Light at the desk was not working propery and the room was a bit dark for me while I like the bright room. The internet connection was OK but wanted to have one for multiple devices at the same time. The location just in front of the station is perfect. I did not hear much noize even in such central location. 02 September 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by The room is absolutely not worth its price We were three people and prepaid a "superior room" (intended for four). On our arrival, they sent us in a room for three (on the first floor). So I had to come back down and ask for a room change or for a refund of the difference... The manager said it was too complicated to refund the difference on my credit card (can you believe it?). So they gave us another room. They proposed a room on the same floor, but I asked for a room on a higher floor and they gave us the room 810 on the 8th floor. When we entered the room I could not believe it: there was no space for anything else than the three of us: nothing to place on our three luggages, that we had to leave on the floor or on the table. Then, there was no more space to move in the room... and we were just three, could not imagine what happened if we were four... It's not over: when I entered the toilet, there was a stink that could kill you. You could not expect that smell even in the station's toilet. That smell was there the day after, when we leaved, and I'm sure it's still there (although I talked about this problem to the concierge on our check out). Moreover, there were only two towels (we were three and the room was intended for four people), and I had to call the reception to have some more. There was a hair under my pillow. There was nothing in the toilet except some little soap (no complimentary goods, shower cap or similar). The mattress was too hard (for me). When I turned on the air con, it made a terrible noise: it was like having a truck with its engine on into the room. Impossible to use, I turned it off immediately. Fortunately, it was not so hot... The breakfast room was crowded and there was only one person to serve everybody. The chaos was terrible. I had to ask the reception to have a mug, since I was waiting for minutes but the poor lady was going up and down doing everything and was unaware the mugs were missing. After a few minutes, one of the two coffee machines failed and nobody repaired it. Finally, on our departure, we left the luggages for a few hours in a locked room (with many others), but at the reception there were no more tags, so we had to leave our bags without a tag with the name of the owner. Only one thing can be saved: the view. From the 8th floor the rooms on the right side of the corridor have a beautiful view on the city and the sea. 31 August 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely room great view We stayed one night as we were catching the train the next day. It was a perfect place to stay for this purpose, but we would also recommend for a short break in Marseille The metro is very close and very easy to use.. We had booked a room with panoramic view and were not disappointed. The breakfast was really good and overall the stay was very good value. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. There was coffee and tea in the room which was great and when I asked for extra milk it was no problem and I was even given fresh milk! 05 August 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very good, close to TGV Station The Hotel is only a whiff away from TGV Railway Station, excellent, got an upgrate of the room due to Priority Club reason. Room calm and enough space for 2 adults and a child. Very good breakfast and very kindly service. Excellent service as well at the bar. Fair prices for drinks. Will come again next summer. 02 August 2013
