Welcome To Austin
Welcome to Austin, Texas and the historic InterContinental Stephen F Austin! It is our pleasure to introduce you to some of the great places that make Austin a favorite destination world-wide. We welcome this opportunity to share our recommendations with you.
Wake up early and begin your day with an energetic walk along the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail. Stroll the shops and enjoy the sights of Second Street stopping to enjoy a bike to eat at one of the many great resturants along the way. Stop into the Mexi-Arte Mexican Art Museum and the Arthouse at the Jones Center for contemporary art both on Congress Avenue near the hotel.
Why not go and play in Zilker Park, 358 acres in the city center. Take a ride round the park on the Zilker Zephyr miniature train, row a canoe out onto the lake or be like a local and take a dip in Barton Springs Pool. This amazing, natural spring-fed pond is three acres wide and maintains a temperature of 68 degrees F all year round, so you can swim whatever the weather. While you're here, pack in a culture fix: head to the Sculpture Garden at the south end to see works by sculptor Charles Umlauf.
Enjoy a Happy Hour cocktail while listening to live music at the lively and beautiful bar at Trulucks on 4th Street. At sundown in the Summer, just a short walk away, join the thousands of people gathering at the Congress Avenue Bridge to watch the famous bats take flight. Fron there head to the SoCo District for a choice of some of the best dining in town. Finish a perfect night at the famous Continental Club for live bands and mingling with the locals. You might even spot a celebrity!
Some older local establishments do not accept credit or debit cards. Always have some cash on hand.
Austin is a very casual city where temperatures can change suddenly. Be sure to bring comfortable cool clothing for the intense heat in the Summer and layers and a scarf for the chilly Winters. July through September is very hot while January and Feburary can bring a lot of rain and occasional ice.
20 percent is standard gratuity for service in restaurants, bars and other services like salons, spas and chauffeurs.
