The property shows its age, but the staff work hard to keep it clean and functional. The beds (we had a room with 2 DOUBLE, not Queen, beds) seemed rather old and worn. My family did not sleep well due to this. The breakfast was the usual at HIE, but it seemed the staff was overwhelmed by the amount of guests eating. They did try their best to keep up. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Check in was easy and uneventful, exactly what I need. The front desk staff was courteous and professional. The two people they had working the breakfast area were helpful and attentive. Again, I think they could have used a third person, considering it was a weekend. Since this property is rather large (I believe they have 200 rooms), I was disappointed to see only one operational computer in the business center and the printer didn't work initially. I will find a different HIE if I need to make a similar trip in the future.

Personnel, housekeeping staff and van driver all were very helpful when unexpected trouble came our way during our stay in Charleston. We were inconvenience with having to stay extra hours while our car was being fixed and I stayed in the lobby during this time. Several times I was asked if I needed anything while waiting. And when my husband's razor charger was left behind, our telephone calls were answered or call returned in good time. The charger was waiting for us to be picked up at our local post office when we arrived home from our extended travels. We thank one and all at the Holiday Inn Express Charleston-Civic Center for the many courtesies extended to us during our stay there.
