Not the original Holiday Inn Express building

We were surprised to find this building was previously a competitors hotel, not the original Holiday Inn Express we had stayed in previously at Sulphur Springs, TX. The building was not as clean as expected. I asked about another Holiday Inn Express being in town and he indicated there was one apparently because he couldn't understand English. There was no hair dryer in the room and the clerk insisted on coming in to verify themselves. He checked unsuccessfully in two other rooms for a hair dryer. He insisted "all" rooms have hair dryers, stating housekeeping verifies this. Although there was an iron, there was no ironing board. The pool was located outside our room and at 11 pm, two of the clerks were out sitting by the pool taking a break I assume and talking loud. The floors needed vacuuming. We wanted to go to the treadmill but had to get a clerk to let us in. Our key wouldn't do it. Not sure why they don't trust their guest. The clerks were nice enough but they were difficult to understand. The room above had people that stomped around all night. Not sure why they would be up all night...

The elevator was broken and wanted to put my handicap dad upstairs. The pool does not match the pictures, it was nasty and dirty. The light on the mirror did not work. The keys stopped working several times. The internet did not work. The breakfast sausage was under cooked and it was the same thing both days. It also did not match the pictures. Smells like moth balls when you walk in the door. Overall awful stay! Disappointed in Holiday Inn. Do better!

Let me start by saying I stay at IHG hotels at least 3-5 days/week almost every week for my job. So the disappointment in this hotel was real! We checked in around 7:30 pm for a 3 night stay (absolutely NO recognition of Platinum Elite status) and when we went to the room we were assigned it was dirty - both beds unmade, dirty towels on the floor. We went back to the front desk and it took him 5 minutes to find a different room for us - actually ended up taking a room that they had assigned to someone else...and also ended up being handicap accessible. When this was discovered I returned to the front desk and asked to be put in to a different room the next day, we would make do for the evening. I was assured that would happen. AND it did not. When I went to the desk the next day we were indeed assigned a new room on the 2nd floor and then told that the elevator was not working (It sure was working the evening before when we went to the first dirty room). We had huge bags because we were there for a wedding so climbing the stairs with these bags was not an option so we opted to just stick it out. The bathroom, being handicap accessible, is a disaster for an able bodied person - the shower leaks right out in to the bathroom and under the door into the entry way, becoming a high slip hazard for people stepping out of the shower or trying to walk in after and use the toilet. It required 5-6 towels every shower just to sop the water up and keep it contained. The rug was fraying and filthy for bare feet, likely due to the wheel chair usage for which it was designed. The charging stations next to the bed did not work. And the noise (NOT from the interstate which I had read about) from the hallway and front lobby was absolutely ridiculous. Finally, when checking my CC status, I noticed an $86.25 hold on my card and when I approached the gentlemen at the desk they told me it was an incidental hold. When I questioned the amount the older gentleman got quite argumentative and his answers were ridiculous (again, I have stayed at countless HIEs in several states and am quite familiar with incidental charges and what he was providing as answers were absolutely nonsensical). I have had some minor issues with HIEs in the past but that is part and parcel with the hotel life. I have never felt the need to leave a nasty review. Until now.

Our family generally loves Holiday Inn. However this property and the staff working there were the worst.
1. When we check in, the staff member was on his phone. And did not get off. We stood there for several minutes, before he checked us in.
2. He didn’t it tell us that the elevator was out of order. My wife is 7 months pregnant. He proceeded to tell us to go to the top floor, and take the stairs. When we asked if there was a room on a lower floor, it was met with a blank stare and then he asked why.
3. Sleep quality was very low here since it sits right on the interstate. Traffic/semi noises all throughout the night.
I would not recommend this particular property. Their staff was rude both in at check in and out. The only positive here is that the cleanliness was up to standards.
Avoid at all cost.

The damaged entry was just the beginning. Checked in around 9 pm. The guy working the counter was nowhere to be found but eventually showed up. Room 1 had not been cleaned after the previous guest. The beds unmade, dirty towels on the floor, dirty bathroom, trash, etc. Room 2 way too dark, thermostat broken, THEN what was, I won't gross you out, best described as bodily fluids on the walls. Room 3 shattered television, no phone, more lack of lighting. Room 4 was the best of the bunch. But the bedding and towels were in bad shape. I don't even shower there because as I paid more attention the following morning, under the sink and in the corner, there was a washcloth that was clearly used to clean up a messy poop. Another guest I encountered in the hallway had similar issues and multiple rooms, and he got stuck in the wonky elevator.

We booked 3 rooms and desk clerk was helpful in making sure we were at least on the same floor. However I was not recognized as an IHG member either at checking or check out, nor did I receive any Amenity points. Two rooms on the front side were extremely noisy from traffic. The one room on the backside was very quiet. Otherwise a nice stay with a good breakfast.

The rooms were very clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable and the breakfast was very good with lots of variety. I would definitely choose this hotel again.

I have submitted a report to ihg for poor service and water leak that caused me to fall and have injuries .
Owner and workers were very rude and nasty and would not assist me in the process . Never apologized or asked if I was ok . I have seen doctor and have injuries suffered from lack of care and attention from property manager and staff . Property manager yelled and was very rude but gave me a credit even though o never asked for one . Admiting fault .
We will follow up with ihg on this case
