You can experience stunning panoramic views of turquois-blue Lake Tahoe year-round from more than 9,000 feet up on the Heavenly Gondola, which leaves from the back of Heavenly Ski Resort’s village. As the largest ski resort in the region, you can add just under another 1,000 feet to your view by skiing along Heavenly’s intermediate-level Ridge Run trail after a long pause to soak it all in.
Genoa is considered the oldest permanent settlement in Nevada and is full of historic charm. Visit the oldest bar in town, shop for antiques in the local boutiques, attend family friendly festivals and events, walk along the Pony Express trail or see a replica of the town’s first structure at Mormon Station State Historic Park.

Virginia City is a 19th century mining town that is still active today. Visitors can take a step back in time with past residents and discover what life was like in the late 1800s. See where Mark Twain first started to write, take a mining tour, or if you are feeling adventurous, tour the Silver Terrace Cemeteries. Virginia City is located about an hour northwest of the resort.
Carson Valley sits at an elevation of 4,700 feet and is sheltered by surrounding mountains. The area has four distinct seasons with relatively mild winters but travelers should be aware that travel conditions in the area can change quickly. It’s best to check for the most current weather reports and traffic conditions before venturing out on the roads.
