On Saturday, June 20, I had the misfortune of staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Forrest City, AR. My two young children and I arrived around 10:30 p.m. at the hotel with our reservation. We went to our room and quickly discovered that the A/C wasn't working. I called the front desk, and the receptionist finally came up to our uncomfortably hot room and attempted to fix the unit. By now it was approaching midnight and I asked to be assigned another room, only to be told there was nothing available. Yet, the air conditioner kept shorting out and the front desk clerk had to return. She said that one room just became vacant and we could sleep there. But since she could only replace the linens without disinfecting anything else, we would have to return to our original room in the morning to use the bathroom and shower. She said the new room would be ready in 20 minutes because she was cleaning it herself. 40 minutes later, she finally came to take us to our new room. By then I was guiding my groggy youngsters down the hall at 1:30 a.m.
The clerk, who was sincerely trying to help, said that I could talk to management in the morning when I checked out, but she couldn't give me a full refund. Instead, I would still have to pay the base room price and she would give me hotel points. If I wanted a full refund for my complete dissatisfaction, I would have to speak with management. After shuttling back to our original (hot) room in the morning to use the bathroom and shower, we went down to breakfast, only to be met with a hostess who was more interested in commiserating with the guests than restocking the food items.
When we checked out, the morning clerk said no manager was available but “the sales manager would call me the next day” to discuss my unpleasant experience. If Holiday Inn offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee, I assured them that my satisfaction was near 0%. And after a week has since passed, I have yet to hear from the sales manager or anyone else. I've stayed at Holiday Inn Express a great many times over the years and have never had an experience quite this miserable.

This is one of a group of hotels in an area where exits are scarce. Mostly comparable to each other, chose this ones to gain rewards points. Expected Holiday Inn Express quality and service.

We were most pleased with our stay. One comment to help you keep the service at a high standard. The large towels in our room were worn and below the standard we have experienced at all of our other Holiday Inn stays. Staff needs to ensure towels are not old and worn.
