A specialty retailer of hunting, fishing, camping and related outdoor recreation merchandise. Cabela's also has a Gun Library where people can buy and sell new and used firearms. The store also features museum-quality displays of taxidermied wildlife and a large aquarium.

On Mitchell's main street, the Corn Palace is a tourist attraction that features unique corn murals inside and outside of the building. The outside murals are replaced and redesigned each year with a new theme. During the summer months, the interior becomes of gift shop featuring unique items related to corn and to South Dakota. During the rest of the year, the Corn Palace also serves the local community as a venue for concerts, sports events, exhibits and other community events.

Dakota Weslyan University is a small, private University which aspires to excellence in the liberal arts and professional programs. Located on DWU's campus is the McGovern Legacy Museum. This museum is a journey through the lives of George and Eleanor McGovern, both of whom graduated from DWU.

Dakota Discovery Museum features numerous historic artifacts from earlier times on the prairie. Visitors can explore the traditions of early American settlers from railroading, farming and ranching, to fur trade, hunting, and stage coach travel. The museum also has activities for the children while parents enjoy the museum and art gallery.

MTI is a vocational school that offers education and training for technical jobs. MTI also strives to meet the needs of the community through adult, business, and industrial training programs. The south campus, including the Admissions office, is located at 1800 East Spruce in Mitchell, South Dakota. The north campus is located at 821 North Capital Street.

Located on DWU's campus, this museum takes visitors on a journey through the lives of George and Eleanor McGovern. George McGovern was once a SD state senator who graduated from DWU.

The Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village is a six-acre site, overlooking the west bank of Lake Mitchell. It holds dual status as a National Register and National Historic Landmark site. The Prehistoric Indian Village entices visitors to imagine what it was like to live in a 1,000-year-old former plains village.
