You might know that Adelaide is known as the City of Churches, and rightly so as you see a church on nearly every street you turn onto. But the South Australian capital is so much more than a city dotted with beautiful stone churches. It’s also one filled with culture and history; not to mention it has quite the vibrant nightlife. Tourists come here, and many of the locals enjoy living here, for Adelaide’s lively festivals, long beachfronts and of course its appetizing wine.

Adelaide Hills is one of Adelaide’s top neighborhoods. Most travelers make the short, scenic drive for its countless vineyards and wine tasting tours. There are many family-owned and award-winning wineries to choose from—like Longview Vineyard and Shaw + Smith Winery—and you won’t taste a better glass of Chardonnay anywhere else. While you are in the area, make sure to stop by The Cleland Conservation Park. It’s a treat for visitors who aren’t used to seeing kangaroos, wallabies and other Australian wildlife up close and personal.

Being a coastal city, Adelaide also has some wonderful beaches. Glenelg is a real crowd pleaser with its turquoise waters that are great to look at and swim in, nice white sandy beaches that are perfect for beach volleyball and fun dolphin tours. And that’s not all. Glenelg is a one-stop shop for shopping, eating and drinking. Other notable nearby beaches include Seacliff Beach, another good swim hole, and Moana Beach, calm waters make it a suitable snorkeling spot.

Annual festivals keep the culture scene thriving in Adelaide. There are music, art, film and even children’s festivals happening throughout the year. For a memorably fun experience, visit Adelaide during Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide Festival, WOMADelaide, Tour Down Under, Clipsal 500 or Adelaide Cabaret Festival. No matter which you attend, you are sure to enjoy good food and good times with even better people.

Sports lovers will want to check out Adelaide Oval, a stadium hosting cricket and football games. Afterward, take a stroll around other parts of North Adelaide to admire its unique and historic architecture.

And whether you are on a strict budget or not, don’t waste your money overpaying for a hotel. Save your money for wine, attractions and souvenirs. Book your hotel room with IHG’s Your Rate—it’s a time and money saver, as well as a points and rewards earner.

If you ask us, Australia’s southern treasure is the complete package. So what’re you waiting for? Find an Adelaide hotel and start planning your next trip today!

A Time to Relax
By Henry Perfect
I was returning to Australia after spending 11 years in China. I entered via Sydney and spent 14 days in quarantine which was no hardship. Travelling to Adelaide via Alice Springs I could not get [More] up to the country town where I live and therefore had to overnight in Adelaide. What better place to do this than the InterContinental Adelaide. Check in was competed without any fuss or bother and I was allocated a room on the 23rd floor with a view of the Adelaide Oval. The room was large, spacious, clean and welcoming and had all the amenities that one would need. Bathroom was superb. The bed was firm and comfortable and I actually had a good nights sleep after travelling for just over 10 hours. [Less]
A luxury stay in our own backyard
By Papa Smurf
With COVID-19 limiting the opportunities for interstate holidays a luxurious night out in our own city seemed like a reasonable alternative. The experience at the Intercontinental exceeded our [More] expectations! From the friendly greeting by the valet, the check-in process and dining experiences nothing was too much trouble for the very friendly and efficient staff. Facilities were amazing and during our brief stay we were already making plans for our next local luxury experience. [Less]
