Featured Honolulu Hotels

Serving as both the capital and largest city of Hawaii, Honolulu represents the island state’s energetic epicenter. In Honolulu, you will also find one of Hawaii’s most popular beaches, Waikiki. The city stretches over much of the island of Oahu, the third largest Hawaiian island, all the way from Pearl Harbor to Makapuu Point. Honolulu is known for its arts, culture, and entertainment scene, offering a large array of activities from live music, dining experiences, art galleries, and some of Hawaii’s most historic sites.

Things to See

Honolulu is well known for its beautiful white sand beaches, especially Waikiki, arguably Hawaii’s most famous beach located on the south shore. It is the perfect place for swimming, canoeing, or sunbathing. Just up the shore you at Kalakaua Avenue, you will find yourself surrounded by exquisite restaurants, local shops, and a bustling nightlife scene. If you seek a more serene beach, Hanauma Bay is a great choice with its location at the base of an extinct volcano, surrounded by calm waters and a beautiful coral reef. The bay’s reef is an excellent place for snorkeling and scuba diving. Halona Beach Cove, known as the “peering place”, is nestled in a rocky cove and offers the perfect place for swimming when the surf is calm.

For the outdoor aficionados among us, hiking up to the top of Diamond Head State Monument to experience the extraordinary views of both Honolulu’s skyline and Waikiki Beach is a necessity. There are also several other places to go hiking, such as Pu’u Ualaka’s Park, Nu’uanu Pali Lookout, and Halona Blowhole all of which will wind you past stunning beaches and rock formations. Or, just grab your towel and head out to Ala Moana Beach Park, Kaimana Beach, or Fort DeRussey Beach Park for a good dose of sun. Honolulu is also home to several historic sites, including Pearl Harbor, the largest natural harbor in the state and the only naval base in the country that has a National Historic Landmark designation. Board a ferry to the floating USS Arizona Memorial, constructed over the sunken battleships hull, and learn about the attack that will live in infamy. Also be sure to stop by the Pacific Aviation Museum and the Battleship Missouri Memorial, recognized as the site where WWII ended.

There are many hotels in Honolulu dotted in various areas of the city, ranging from family-friendly spots just a short walk from Waikiki Beach to locations that are ideal for business travelers. Options and amenities abound, making it is easy to find a location and style best-suited for the activities you have planned for your trip to Honolulu.

Where to Stay

As the cultural hub of the island of Oahu, downtown Honolulu houses the Hawaii State Art Museum, Mission Houses Museum, Aloha Tower, the state capital building, and majority of the business district. Waikiki is the center of tourism and is a popular tourist destination. Its gorgeous beaches, the Honolulu Zoo, the Waikiki Aquarium, and vibrant Hawaiian culture make it the perfect place to enjoy with the whole family. Ala Moana Park, between downtown Honolulu and Waikiki, offers a pleasant place to relax and enjoy a tranquil alternative away from popular tourist destinations.

How to Get to Honolulu

Honolulu International Airport (HNL) is the most convenient option for fliers, offering many domestic and international flights. The airport offers a shuttle service, the Airport Waikiki Express, to and from hotels throughout the day. Public city buses also provide stops through downtown and Waikiki. Rental car services are accessible just outside the airport terminals as well. Once you have arrived at your destination, getting around may be a little difficult if you are not used to a compass-point grid system. A city map (often offered in hotel lobbies and tourist spots) or your phone’s GPS will come in handy while navigating Honolulu.

Great Hotel

Great hotel. Central to everything Waikiki has to offer. Staff were friendly and courteous . Front facing rooms on higher floors have great views and value for Waikiki. Beds are very comfortable and [More] pool is family orientated. Our choice for hotels when we visit Hawaii. [Less]

Great Check-in and Breakfast Staff
By robeast
I was really surprised with my experience at the Holiday Inn Express in Waikiki. It was currently under some heavy renovation in the lobby area so it was noisy. Front Desk was friendly and check-in [More] was breeze. I had the two Queen beds with an ocean view. The room is new, but my only complaint is that it's small. Not much walking room. However, the view was spectacular. One of the employees who was in the elevator reminded me of the weekly fireworks that another hotel has and I had a perfect view of it. The bed was high, which I like very much and comfortable. The following morning we had breakfast. The breakfast staff was great. We enjoyed Maricel's company and service. She was very friendly which started our day off right. There was a great selection of breakfast items and beverages. I would have given the hotel five stars but my check out experience was bad. When I returned to the hotel, I noticed there was a check in line going out into the street. I was hoping to be able to do a virtual check out from the TV like most hotels, but it wasn't available at this property and I know there was no express check out box in the lobby. So i called Front Desk and informed them that I needed to check out very soon but there's a long check in line. I was advised to come down and they will be able to do the check out. I recall seeing an IHG member placard specifically for those with elite status, but this was removed so I just stood in that area awaiting to for Front Desk. The wait was forever and the guy at Front Desk was not acknowledging me instead focusing on the check in. So I just stepped to him and said "I need to check out now." He was not very friendly and I wasn't about to reciprocate any friendliness toward him. At that time, Front Desk did not have it under control and it just added to the frustration. Overall I think the entire experience was good (minus the check out). I would recommend this property for it's value, location and ocean views. [Less]

Under construction but looking Great!!
By Pirate guy
Stayed here for work travel but my family got to come too so they were there on vacation. Was worried about the site after reading other reviews. Upon Arrival, i was pleasantly surprised. Although [More] there was still a lot of construction going on, the overall area was neat and clean. the staff was super friendly and helpful. Got a newly renovated room on a upper floor. Very clean. view of the mountain, diamond head and the beach was fantastic. The room was quite small but they used the space very efficiently. room lighting was good but there was really no way to reduce the light in the room. everything was either dark or super bright at night. Lots of spots to plug in our electronics and enough spots to put our stuff and make us unpack. Internet was good. No business area b/c of the renovation but I didn't need it. Pool was open although the water was quite cold. The pool deck was being set up throughout my stay. it was looking really really nice. The miniature golf area and game area was mostly closed but i did get to play miniature golf once before I left so I am not too bitter about that. The game room was never open though. The fitness room was top notch! great equipment. Breakfast was AMAZING! not enough tropical fruit but the rest of the stuff was fantastic and the staff there were so helpful and nice. Parking was limited and a bit challenging to maneuver but I never had any serious problems other than someone bumped my rental and scraped the side a bit. Always found a spot though. Laundry room for guests was dirty but everything worked. Elevators were fast. location was close to anything needed. The amenity fee was a bit deceiving. Basically it was for breakfast, internet, the pool, the game room, the miniature golf course, and everything else. I think it should have just been part of the normal room fee especially since much of the amenities were not open the whole time I was there and breakfast and internet are supposed to be included in the room rate. Not bad, but that is my only real complaint. Other than that, I can honestly say, we had a really good time and the hotel was great. [Less]
