The Dominican Republic is one of the most visited Caribbean destinations year after year. Many friends, couples and families travel there for its luxurious beaches, but what many people forget is the Dominican Republic has much more to offer tourists than just sand, sun and beautiful blue waters. The highest mountain found in the Caribbean — Pico Duarte — is located in the DR. La Pelona is another tall mountain, and between the two there are several hiking trails that aren’t the easiest of climbs but getting to the top and seeing the views of the area is worth the sweat. Another hike, a good one to do by bike, giving you a great end result takes you to Boiling Lake. This is a steaming and bubbling lake formed from a volcanic eruption dating back to 1880. You should also check out a waterfall or two while in the Dominican Republic. Ciguapa Falls and Damajagua are two gorgeous sights you can’t miss, and if you’re feeling adventurous, grab your hiking boots and hike to them too.
