I stayed at Crowne Plaza Colchester for one night. I booked the room using Priority Club Rewards Points as the hotel had featured in the PointSavers Promotion.
I arrived rather later than expected
after being stuck on the M11 for some time. Upon arrival I was checked in - I felt a little matter of factly - rather than warmly. I was not recognised as a Spire Elite Royal Ambassador member at check in, rather, I noticed that 600 points had been deposited to my account around midnight the night before my arrival...not quite sure how that happened, but still. I noticed that my room had been upgraded when I checked the reservation, but again it was not mentioned at check in. So needless to say, I was not offered a choice of Welcome Amenity, as it had already been decided by someone at the hotel the night before. I was offered the opportunity to pay for breakfast in the morning if I wanted to have it.
My room was comfortable. A very large King Bed, and had all of the usual amenities. I have marked the room down slightly, as the bathrooms are looking very very tired, and need complete refurbishment - I have stayed in Holiday inn properties with much nicer bathrooms. I do appreciate that this is at a cost, however a rolling bathroom refurbishment programme is needed to start here soon please.
I did have a couple of Gin and Tonics in the bar, and found the bar staff to be very friendly and engaging. I was offered a choice of Gin, which is always a nice touch.
All in all, a nice hotel. It is starting to show its age, and that is not what I expect of any UK based Crowne Plaza. [Less]
