Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Room was good, manager was NOT I have stayed at this Candlewood a few times over the years. It has always been my #1 choice. However, my stay this time was quite disappointing and it wasn't due to the quality of the roomas much as it was due to how I was treated when checking in. When checking in, I was asked why I was staying there. Initially I thought the reason the young lady was asking was to be friendly, but I quickly realized the reason she asked was to try and figure out if I was staying the weekend because of the concert that was playing in town. The main lady manager then came over beside the young lady checking me in and began speaking with another man about how thankful she was that the police came to educate her on "what to look" for with these concert goers and how she wasn't going to tolerate their behavior and that this is a smoke free facility and on and on. It was very awkward as I have never been stereotyped by an establishment in this manner. I was then asked to sign off on the pet policy, how many people are allowed in the room, etc. I mentioned to the young lady that I have never had to do this before and her reasoning was so we would have a pleasant experience at the hotel. So if this is new procedure, my apologies, but from the way I was being stared down and stereotyped, it appeared this treatment was due to the concert goers more than anything. I then questioned the total for my room as it was more than what I was quoted in my email. I showed the email to the manager and she said that what I was quoted was for a smaller room. I opted to keep the room that was accidentally booked for me as it wasn't much more. Her comment to me was, "Yeah, you got a good rate for this room. Some people reserved a room before I was able to up the rates for the concert. The cost for this room now is $149 a night instead of the $80 a night you got." What I really wanted to respond with at this point was "Well sorry YOU didn't get to RIP ME OFF", but I kept my cool and went to the room. NEVER have I been so offended when checking into a place. Normally places are happy to get your business. Once I got to the room, I inspected the room and found the leather chair was ripped and had a burn hole the size of a quarter. There were dents in the fridge in 3 places. I took pictures and then went back to the front desk to report it because I was concerned that I would be blamed considering how I was treated when checking in. It was extremely disappointing to be treated this way and I will NOT be back here when I come to Hampton in the future. I supposedly got 1,000 extra pts for spinning some wheel, but I have no idea if they really gave them to me or not. I can definitely tell you that I will take my business elsewhere. October 24, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Time! My boyfriend and I came for the Phish shows in Hampton and it happened to be our third anniversary. We needed an accessible/handicapped room and were very surprised to see that everything was accessible. From the kitchen counters to the desk to the bathroom sink; everything was an easy fit! I cannot say enough good things about the accommodations and the staff. The room was clean, and had everything that we could possibly need for our stay. We will definitely be staying here again. The Front desk attendants were very friendly and acknowledge me by name. I would recommend the 401 Butler Farms Candlewood to anyone who is looking for a safe, clean and friendly place to stay for business or play. September 27, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A Great Stay I have stayed at this Candlewood 4 times on my visits to the area. Every visit has been met with friendly staff. The rooms are comfortable and come with free laundry facilities (just bring your own detergent). I like getting a workout in the small but adequate exercise facility while my clothes are washing/drying. The kitchens are perfect with full size fridge! Plenty of closet space and great a/c. It's always quiet and a perfect night sleep is always had. I had requested extra pillows during booking and when I arrived, they had already been placed in the room. Privacy is King here...so, expect to take your towels to the front desk and trade in for fresh ones...but then again, that is what extended stay is all about....you stay and don't have to worry about someone coming in your room everyday on a schedule to clean, etc. However, if you need anything, its as close as the front desk. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super Friendly, Centrally Located My partner and I decided to visit the Hampton Roads area on vacation, and found Candlewood via Google. It has a great location - right near I-64, the Hampton Roads Center Parkway, and Peninsula Town Center, and is tucked out of the way of the main traffic, so it's quiet. The staff and other guests were very friendly and courteous - I've never had so many fellow guests smile, look me in the eyes, and say hello! Wonderful atmosphere. Very safe-feeling. Kitchen had everything needed to make meals (keeping costs down on vacation is always good). Leather-like furniture was a little careworn, but very comfortable. The room was clean and well-stocked. We were a little worried, since pets are allowed and we have animal-triggered allergies, but, even with a dog next door, we had no problems whatsoever. The entire building is kept very clean. Anyone looking for an extended stay in the area should look here - very reasonably priced, very friendly, and very convenient to all things local. Would definitely stay again! August 5, 2013

The basketball teams that visited ran the hallways every night, insulted guests, were rude, and unsupervised. One staff member asked me to cease complaining about the noise because other guests may complain as well. After paying over $1000 to stay there, I felt as if my concerns were ignored. August 3, 2013

I dont know if he was a manager but he acted like one and got stuff done. i will tell my friends to stay there if they in the hampton roads area. May 21, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Superior service, typical only in luxury hotel brands!!! Sometimes "value" does come with a lower price! Traveling on business three of four weeks a month, and for a company that prohibits spending more than $80 a night on lodging, makes clean, comfortable, options few and far between... This is why I was recently surprised to find the Candlewood Suites in Hampton, (near Langley AFB), within my price range, so decided to give it a try - it was a great decision! From the superior front desk service while checking in, to the personal attention provided by the property's GM, I felt as though I had been coming here already for years! The room was spacious, clean and fully updated in warm, neutral/chocolate tones and absolutely comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will be booking again my next trip to Hampton/Newport News March 25, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed this time Usually my experience with Candlewood is excellent, but this time the room condition really let me down. the furniture was very worn out and the carpet was stained in many places. The screens and rips and holes and the kitchen utensils were in dire need of replacement. Usually Candlewood is home away from home, but not this time. January 10, 2013
