We enjoyed the Crowne Plaza mostly because it is so close to Old Town Alexandria. An added bonus for us was that it is right on the Mt. Vernon bike trail and we enjoyed that look at the Potomac from the trail. The staff was especially accommodating...and patient with all our questions. They even went out of their way to store our bikes in a safe place. We'll definitely stay there again.

Copied from my review on TripAdvisor.com:
Booked at this hotel because of the price point and relative proximity to King St (~10-12 blocks) and the Potomac River (2 short blocks). Stayed Sat-Mon for a romantic getaway with the wife.
When booking, I requested a top-floor, river facing room if one could be had. When we arrived, didn't look like the place was full (lots of parking available). I could swear the clerk at the front desk told me the room she had for us had a great view (thinking 'a river view'). But the room was on the total opposite side of the hotel from the river and overlooked the playground/doggie park across the street. Disappointment! I'd have requested another room, but was hoping to surprise the Mrs, and decided not to make a fuss since she wasn't aware of my booking request.
A few other "issues":
The hotel charges $20/day for the priviledge of parking in their lot...! And, the place wasn't even full. At least there was no internet access fee.
No coffee/tea in the morning (other than the in-room stuff)
On morning of check-out (like 9AM), the maid barged in while I was getting dressed! Why don't hotels train the staff to just wait until folks have checked out? (this is an issue with many hotels where I've stayed).
The king bed was 'extra firm'. Not an issue for me, but the wife prefers something softer (or adjustable).
Other than the above, the stay was great. Room was super clean. We didn't use any of the hotel amenities since we had planned to be busy outside.
Saw several flight crews coming and going. Can't be that bad a place if these frequent travelers make this 'home away from home', I guess.
The hotel is actually a fair walking distance from King St, but not too far for these 50-year-old legs. The walk seems shorter if you take the riverfront park paths (a tip provided by the front desk). Hotel provides complimentary shuttle service (hourly) as an option.
Room Tip: Many multi-story (mostly office) buildings in the area. If you want a view, ask for one on the higher floors

Very clean & comfortable, with a great staff. A shuttle service took us to the pool a few blocks away in another hotel. Nice safe neighborhood with view of the river and great Thai restaurant across the st. Free bikes available for bike trails that went for miles along the river. Good price. There was a charge for in room wifi, so we didn't get it, but there were computers in the lobby to use. Having a pool on site would have made it "excellent."

HI I stayed at the Crowne Plaza in July while there on business. I had a nice experience the room was cozy, the bed comfy. The staff was nice and helpful. It was nice the hotel offered bikes to borrow in order to ride the 5 blocks to King St. where all the action is as far as food and shopping. I ate at Leyla's Lebanese food and it was wonderful! I recommend this hotel to anyone!
All hotel staff was friendly and helpful, the driver to the airport was nice and drove well. I appreciated their hospitality!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nickman Good hotel and friendly service
Had a nice three day visit at the hotel.
My only concern was in regards to the free breakfast for ONE Platinum guest per room.
On day 1, we were both charged for the breakfast. Later that day I was told only one person could get the free meal. But I was not given a free card since we had already had breakfast.
So on Day 2 and 3, one of us had a free breakfast which was quite good. Just thought one additional breakfast should have been comped.
Clean, nice and friendly is the best way overall to discuss the hotel.

I love this place. I travel alot with the Government and before I moved overseas, I stayed at this hotel for 2 months. It is very clean, comfortable, and quiet. I returned for a one night stay a year later and the customer service was still awesome. This is one of my favoriate hotels in Old Town. It is in the heart of everything.

Twenty bucks to park, ten bucks for internet PER DEVICE, taxes out the wazoo. If you're looking to save a little by staying outside DC don't do it by staying here, you're better off just staying in DC. Can't believe I actually found a hotel that charges for internet in 2013...even McDonalds has free wifi now.

Everything about the stay was very good except that I could not get the hotel reservation desk to answer the phone. When I pressed the number indicated for the shuttle service they never answered the phone. So, I had to press "9" to get someone to answer the phone. This happened on 2 different days during the day and in the evening.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by philtip2 Over Charged My Debit Account by almost $900
No refrigerator or microwave in the room, you have to pay for the wireless internet service and to top everything off a couple days later my checking account was overcharged almost $900. How is that possible for a 2 night stay. It was a good thing I had the money in my account or I would have been suffering overdraft fees like crazy. After I left the hotel I traveled overseas with no way of contacting the hotel other than via email to get this matter corrected, because I don't have telephone access at the moment. I'm currently working on this matter and hope to get it resolved soon. No one want an additional $900 charged to their account. Bills have to be paid.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DCLover1 Great hotel and location
The Crown Plaza Old Town Alexandria is a very nice place with convenient amenities nearby. Within a few blocks walk, a person can find a river walk along the Potomac, walking/biking paths, restaurants galore, shopping and sightseeing. Old Town Alexandria is safe and a very nice, clean city.
The hotel offers bicycles, which are convenient for which to get around. The hotel is not very near a metro stop (15 minutes walk) however they have shuttle service every half hour to the Reagan Airport (DCA) blue/yellow metro stop, which is very convenient for accessing all parts of DC.
We did not have a hotel package deal that included breakfast, however some people did which was nice.
All in all, this is a great hotel and we will stay there again if ever in DC.

I was not impressed by the front desk and staff. When asking for directions from valet, I could NOT understand him. Front desk staff seemed indifferent to questions. I would NOT stay here again. Overpriced with location remote from Old Town area.

I enjoyed my stay at Crown Plaza Alexandria. I visited for a conference in the hotel. My room was clean, comfortably furnished and I felt very safe in this hotel. I had a good nights sleep, the hall way was quiet. The only disturbance was that it was close to the airport and the sound of the airplanes was loud when they were landing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to this area. I used the health club daily during my stay. I did miss that they did not have a pool for guests.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by hockeyguy99 Comfortable room
I attended a conference at the hotel.
The room was very comfortable.
The hotel is a bit out of the way. It is a 15-minute walk to the old part of Alexandria. It is in a neighborhood that is a combination of office and residential. It is not too close to the metro.
The hotel provides a shuttle to the old part of town from the afternoon until evening and an airport shuttle that takes you to the metro at the airport. I used the shuttle and took some cabs.
The hotel staff were friendly but were not that familiar with the amenities in the area.
There is certainly nothing wrong with the hotel and it is a pretty good value , but it is a bit inconvenient in its location.

The banquet/meeting room staff could not have been more attentive and helpful. We were one room and there was a big group filling most of the other rooms. We had great attention.
Had cause for concern about the front desk staff until after several contacts it appears the computer system is cumbersome. They were helpful but slowed down by the system.
There is no pool but other than that the facility was nice. Good location and shuttle service. Some nice reasonable restaurants in the area.
The fee for parking and internet is typical but the nice lady who made my reservation enrolled me in the priority club which turned out to mean free internet and reduced parking fee.
I think the IT staff is off on the weekend since wireless was down all day Saturday.
Would stay here again if I return to the area.

This hotel was conveniently located for a work assignment in the area. The room was spacious with good lighting and excellent desk for working. Elevators were fast, even during busy times.
Website mentioned free shuttles to airport and metro stations, but it only seemed to go to the airport..

My room was on the river side of the hotel. From there, I was able to watch boaters in the evening and airplanes as they dropped below the cloud ceiling on approach to the airport.

Quite by accident we arrived during Police Week and there was a real buzz about the place! We thoroughly enjoyed our four days in Old Town Alexandria, such charm and character! The free shuttle to King Street was great, but we did walk back to the hotel as well, it wasn't that far. The free shuttle to Ronald Reagan Airport to catch the Metro into Washington was fantastic as well.
The hotel staff were great, very helpful with any enquiries I had and I would definitely stay here again!

Griselda and Florivi bent over backwards to be accommodating and helpful. Most professional. They should be examples for staff teaching and training of what and how to do. Because of them, staying at this property over others when I am in NoVA is an easy choice.
Separately, I found the property very quiet and spotless. Even the Railstop was a sociable place without being rowdy or disruptive. For someone who travels as much and at odd intervals and times as I do, this is most important.

I was with a large group and was not happy with check in at all. Went to eat at the restaurant to eat ordered and appetizer which came out with my meal. The chicken wings were dry like they had been over microwaved. Service was slow. Just a really bad experience. My room was clean and nice. The room service trays left in the hallway for 9 hours not so nice. For the price of the room in the DC area it was not bad just wish it were better.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by DSanchez thank you!
We stayed for a long weekend to do some sightseeing. The room was very nice and clean. The bathroom door seemed to stick and was not easy to close or open. (Humidity?) We used the room service for coffee delivery in the morning and the service was spectacular!
One evening, about midnight, our phone rang and it was the front desk reporting a complaint of loud children in our room. When we notified them we had no children, they verified our room number and they had dialed incorrectly. Three more times during the night, the same call came. Admittedly, I was not pleased with being awoken and made mention of this the next morning at the front desk. Nobody seemed to know what was going on with this incident so I chalked it up to prank calls from one of the school kids staying on the same floor. (School field trip) I'll make sure to do this trip again but not during the school session.

we were in old Alexandria for the Garden Walk, and the hotel was in easy walking distance to all the properties. Rooms are clean, quiet and nicely furnished. The staff was friendly and very helpful giving us directions. There was a complimentary shuttle to and from the wharf, which we used for dinner, so we didn't have to drive over. We did not use the restaurants as we were there only for one night and had to get an early start. I would highly recommend this hotel for business or pleasure. Great spot to book for next year's April garden walk in old Alexandria!
