Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by birthday celebration I took my husband away to edinburgh as a surprise for his 40th birthday and I selected this hotel due to location, comfort and the star rating. Have to say this was a fabulous stay, staff could not do enough to help, so happy to help, room was lovely, bar was lovely to and drinks normal prices, didnt eat in the restaurant but we had breakfast in the club lounge think this is the only area that would do with a revamp and inject a bit of life into the staff here to feel you get the extra special service you are paying for. Great stay would come back again. April 15, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Charming hotel, great service! Charming hotel with perfect location in the city center. Great service! Rose Street just around the corner where you will find many authentic pubs, good restaurants and shops. We tried Jamie Oliver's restaurant "Jamie's Italian" at Rose Street and it was a very tasteful experience. I can really reommend this hotel! April 15, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by brilliant stay, ideal for Murrayfield The hotel is around a 5/10 walk from Edinburgh Waveley train station, which was £5 taxi fare. The staff were incredibly welcoming and I was offered points or free drink / snack as per my priority rewards status. There were upgrades available and a dressing gown and chocolate bar and water were offered. I was telephoned earlier in the week, and asked if i had any special requests, and when I said i was an Innis and Gunn fan i was delighted to get two complimentary bottles in my room! I used reward points to stay, and a good job i did as the hotel is normally quite expensive. The hotel was very quiet, and a good nights sleep was had. Breakfast was £10 each and of a very good standard, the location of the hotel is on princes street so right in the centre of Edinburgh. it was an ideal base for the 6 nations match we were attending. Overall this is the best crowne plaza I have stayed at. April 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stunning Hotel Stunning City Absolutely stunning hotel in a stunning city with stunning staff - genuinely cannot do enough for you... April 10, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by One night stay for conference I only stayed one night in this hotel as I was attending a conference that was held there but now I am wishing I had booked another night and taken advantage of this prime location in Edinburgh and done some exploring. The hotel is clean, comfortable and I enjoyed the service and the food. I forgot my toothbrush and toothpaste and went to the reception to see if they sold these items - I was given them free of charge. I felt that the staff could not do enough for you, were friendly and I was made to feel very welcome. I would definitely recommend this hotel. April 8, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Stay The few days we spent in Edinburgh were very nice. The service in this hotel was always very good and they were all very friendly and helpful 24h a day. Only the room cleanliness could be better in a 4-Star-Hotel. But all Thinges considered its a nice place to stay. April 7, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location & Great Stay I decided to book a night at the Roxburghe and we weren't disappointed from the efficiency of the front of house team to the restaurant staff. The location was great with the added addition of a pool and spa it made it a lovely weekend. We will definitely return. 10/10 it ticked all the boxes. April 4, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly and helpful staff My wife and I stayed here on Saturday night and found the overall stay very pleasant ,from arrival to departure we were made to feel very welcome . We stayed in one of the club rooms overlooking the courtyard and enjoyed an un disturbed and comfortable sleep. We enjoyed having the use of the pool ,sauna and steam room and found it to be a great way to spend a couple of hours. Drinks in the club lounge was a nice peaceful way to relax before heading out in the evening . Breakfast was very good and the waitress was very attentive . April 2, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent stay Stayed one night and found everything first class--room,staff and bar food which I would especially recommend. Recognition of platinum card March 30, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Superb stay, staff were great, would definitely recommend. We had a lovely stay at the Roxburgh. From the moment that we arrived the staff could not do enough to help. The only disappointment was the spa facilities, the pool is a bit dated and there's no where to lounge. Location is superb and will definitely be back! March 26, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing club facilities No IHG platinum recognition, no recognition at all, no platinum upgrade, the club was only open for one hour of cocktails, not the usual two, only beer and basic wine was offered and only one canape per person per night. No free newspaper, mis-informed where we could take breakfast, all very disappointing. Good location. March 24, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pity about some reception in efficiencies Hotel was great but getting booked in was chaos. I had two rooms, mixed up and allocated an occupied room that reception knew nothing about. Was sorted out effectively but then same happened to my colleague when he checked in. Once that hassle was over a really good hotel , central and well priced. March 24, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful experience This was our first trip to Scotland, and the staff at the hotel made us feel very welcome indeed. As it was our anniversary the manager had even left a hand written card in the room, welcoming us to Edinburgh and congratulating us on our anniversary. Very nice. The room was large and spacious, and the bathroom was very large too, with a free-standing bath, a large shower and ample room to move about. The bed was very comfortable, and sleeping at night was not a problem. As the room was at the front of the hotel, the wind did on occasion blow the older sash windows, but once the heavy curtains were drawn over for the night, this occasional rattling wasn't an issue. The cooked breakfast were very well cooked and ample, and ensured we were well fuelled for the day ahead. Based on our experience here, we will definitely look to stay at this hotel again. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great location, great service, a fine hotel. This hotel is located in the heart of Edinburgh. It has great access to Princes Street for shopping, Rose Street for restaurants and is close to The Scottish National Art Museum, Edinburgh Castle and The Palace and Castle at Holyroodhouse. Great hotel location to enjoy Edinburgh. Concierge helped us line up a ride from airport when we arrived from Chicago in Edinburgh. Nice to have that lined up ahead of time. March 20, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Spa area in dire need of refurbishment I am not long back from a 3 night stay with friends at the Roxburghe Hotel in Edinburgh. The public areas were gorgeous and very tastefully decorated and furnished. The bedroom and bathroom were just fine - no more and no less, but I've certainly stayed in similar value hotels with far nicer bathrooms. However, there were a few areas that were distinctly in need of attention - there was graffiti scratched onto the lift doors - not exactly easy to sort perhaps, but it doesn't look nice; the swimming pool itself seemed clean enough, but the tiles around the walls etc looked in dire need of TLC - several cracked ones, and it all looked a bit tired. However the worst part was the changing rooms - they were smelly and had lots of areas of damp, including in the wooden lockers, and it actually put me off using the pool again during my stay - really not good enough at all and far below my expectations. A friend actually had to request a different locker as hers was so bad with damp and black stains. There was also a mix up over a bar bill when checking out - we had paid in cash and then it got charged to our room too - a bit embarrassing to argue over in a busy reception area. Considering the fantastic location it is in, it would greatly benefit the hotel to upgrade their spa area - do that and I would go back. PS Staff at breakfast could be better trained too. Location was really the only positive for me I'm afraid. March 20, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable room, very pleasant reception staff, poor breakfast, noisy fellow guests! The hotel is nicer from the outside than it is on the inside. Our room was clean, fresh and very comfortable. The reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. It turned out that we could leave our car in the car park and access the leisure facilities after check out on Sunday. If only we'd known before hand we would have planned our trip differently! The car park is small and challenging for anyone with a large car. There was a wedding in the hotel which meant loud music till late on Saturday night. Breakfast was disappointing. Lots of choice but very poor quality cooked food possibly due to how busy they were. March 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Recent Stay Having stayed at this Hotel for many years we did wonder if the standards would be maintained since it had recently been taken over by the Crowne Plaza group. We were not disappointed in fact quite pleased - money had obviously been spent on the décor throughout the Hotel and it was all very tasteful . My only gripe would be that the Hotel consider better quality pillows on the beds as they were quite flat and not as plump as expected to give you the feeling of luxury. Apart from that nothing else to moan about and we would certainly recommend as the ideal location to enjoy the delights of Edinburgh. We look forward to returning next year March 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lovely hotel for a stay in Edinburgh Pretty much verything about our stay at The Roxburghe was spot on. Beds were comfy and our room was spotless. Breakfast was a joy - the black pudding and haggis were scrummy! All the staff were courteous and apparently happy in their work. My only gripe being that there was only one armchair in the room. Small thing which didn't spoil our overall enjoyment. March 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exceptional weekend We recently stayed at the Roxburghe for a wedding reception. The stay was enhanced by the professionalism of the staff who did everything they could to make sure that our visit was a memorable one. From the room service staff, breakfast staff, restaurant and reception, it could not have been bettered. March 14, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A Great Centrally Located Hotel Choosing a hotel on-line is never easy but we were delighted with our stay at the Crowne Plaza Edinburgh -The Roxburghe. I had mentioned that it was a special birthday for my husband and the room that we were given was lovely- spacious and quiet and you could open the windows always a bonus. Breakfast was good with hot and cold food on offer and plenty of choice but I would have liked the breakfast room to be a mobile free zone as I have no wish to be party to business discussions. which are often confidential and very irritating to those within hearing. All the staff were very efficient and pleasant and went out of there way to be helpful but special mention must go to Jamie who sorted out the WiFi connexion for me on the hotel's PC allowing me to print off our boarding cards. If we return to Edinburgh again we shall certainly stay at the Roxburghe as its central position was ideal for sightseeing and its proximity to Edinburgh's airport and transport system made getting around easy. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic experience I recently stayed here with a friend for a girly weekend away. We both had a brilliant time. Our room was great, well presented and had a gorgeous view over the square. The staff were consistently helpful and friendly which made us feel very welcome. The hotel was ideally located for us and the treatments we had in the spa were lovely. The only mini gripe is that the shower was pretty small which would definitely have been an issue for a taller guest! I would highly recommend this hotel and intend to return in the future. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent wedding venue We recently stayed for 2 nights for our niece's wedding and thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. The meal was superb and the service was very good - the staff were very pleased to help and quick to apologise when our meal the night before was taking over long to be served. On the downside was the price of parking and the cost of drinks at the bar. February 26, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful hotel with a great location Great hotel for exploring all that Edinburgh has to offer. February 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel for Edinburgh One of the nicest hotels in Edinburgh, close to many great shops, bars & restaurants. The hotel has the most comfortable beds & the breakfast is lovely, catering for most appetites, with off menu requests always managed. The George bar does a great evening meal in nice surroundings, again with a good selection on the menu & often a set menu including a drink at a very reasonable price. February 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great service and location Friendly and very helpful staff . Hotel in ideal location for most of the attractions in Edinburgh. Rooms comfortable. Special mention to Fiona Wright for the excellent massage she gave my son February 7, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing visit We have stayed in the Roxburghe several times before and this was the most disappointing. On arrival at the car park we found there was not a space to park and also no one 2 advise. On first morning found shower not to be working no hot water. Reported this to reception and was told it was fixed. After attending a Ball in the Roxburghe I returned after a full nights country dancing to find shower now had hot water but pressure knob above would now not turn fully. This meant shower pressure was extremely poor. Called reception and advised and they did not appear to be very sorry. When checkin out I mentioned this to girl and this time I got a very pathetic "I'm sorry". Both mornings when having breakfast my hot breakfast was served to me before I had finished my cereal. I am disappointed in having to write this we have attended this Ball and enjoyed ourselves much more and had far better service all round. February 5, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A Tale of 2 Check ins....... What a difference a day makes... my first stay at this hotel in December was excellent, largely due to the reception and greeting received from one Gavin Stirling, the Head Concierge. The second stay went not so smoothly: they took an age to open the car park gate, to which you must be buzzed in. (You also have to reserve a space in advance which I did). The club lounge breakfast was chaotic because "the restaurant is full, and the kitchen can't cope". Afternoon tea took an age despite several requests for attention because "everyone is busy with the wedding". The Afternoon Tea was eventually delivered and not charged. As a ICH member I receive a bonus point voucher each stay: on both stays they had run out of vouchers and said they would post them manually. They didn't, and still haven't, on either stay. Despite all that, the hotel is in excellent location, the staff are perfectly helpful and polite and the rooms are adequate. With the huge variation in Crowne Plaza standards I will stay again but perhaps with slightly lower expectations. February 1, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great place but.. WiFi was horrible, I couldn't do anything from my room, not much more in the lobby. January 25, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good location The location of the hotel was very central and near some good restaurants, and made it a good base for moving around the city. The hotel as a whole was quite comfortable, with our room comfortable also. The only detraction was a tight squeeze between the desk and the foot of the bed. Breakfast was very nice and the staff at that time were extremely friendly and helpful. January 18, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Christmas in Roxburgh Edinburgh Had a great stay along with my wife and three grown up sons. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant even though they worked over the festive period. Great location and would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it for a weekend break or for a longer stay as a tourist. January 8, 2014
