Stayed there for a night and the fire alarm went off at 4:45 (Middle of winter). I was surprised to find that they didn't give you anything for the inconvience, not even a couple dollars to tims (which is right down the street). The rooms are fine, a little costly and for that price I was expecting them to handle it better.

We were introduced to a new meaning to smoking rooms.
Apparently, this section of the Hotel is not monitored for potential illegal smoking activities - (fi) you wish to get high just walk the hallway.
It was very disappointing, we hold membership status for this hotel change and have never been disappointed like this!
Although, reporting our concerns to the front desk, the second night was a duplication with no follow-up by the Hotel Management.

This was our fourth stay at this location and the best yet! We were there with a Bantam Hockey Team and after driving through severe weather, allowed us to check in a little early so we could rest, rooms were booked in the basement so the kids were free to roam from room to room without bothering other guests (makes sense) and reaction time to any issues (clogged toilet, etc) were dealt with immediately. I am a priority club member and stay at various Holiday Inns throughout North America and even though the rooms were a little outdated, the level of service more than made up for it!

Maybe it's nothing but as a Platinum member who has stayed at this hotel for weeks on end I was put through the show ID, fill out forms etc. I believe it was a new staff member and I'll admit I haven't been there for several months but I stayed at several HI's accross Canada and was treated like gold, the reception here seemed a bit cold. The regular staff at breakfast and Laurie at the bar always recognize you even when you haven't been around for a period of time.

We stayed for two nights, and it was one of the best hotel experiences we've had. The hotel is clean and beautiful, the bed was very comfortabe, the room was spacious, and they offer all the amenities you could want. The lounge and restaurant were absolutely top-notch in terms of ambience, quality of food (excellent variety of choices), and service. The closet for hanging clothes was a bit small (fine for 2 people for 2 nights), but lots of space in dresser drawers. Soft towels, very hot water, and very efficient check-in and check-out. It doesn't get much better!

This was my 3rd stay at this particular Holiday Inn in Barrie. The website says "newly renovated" but it has actually been a couple of years and the stale smell of cigarettes lingers in the hallways. I'm unsure if it is Holiday Inn policy now, but in order to get hair conditioner, body wash, paper or pens (standard in all the hotels I visit) in your room, you must call the front desk and request them. At this point they will page housekeeping over the loud speaker and direct them & your request to your room.
If you are expecting a fridge- don't because they have a very limited supply now. If you are expecting housekeeping- don't because they only came 3 of the 4 days we were there. When they did come, they did do a nice job.
We ate at the restaurant one evening. After deciding not to finish French Onion Soup the waitress asked if everything was OK. I mentioned it had a strange spice in it to which she replied "oh, its the rosemary, everyone complains about it"???
One other thing- this is a 'party' hotel with limited security after hours. After 3 requests to the front desk to ask our neighbours to settle down, we ultimately gave up and put the pillow over our heads.
After giving it one last try, I have decided to stay elsewhere on my annual trip to Barrie next year!

This was our first stay at a full service Holiday Inn . All thought it's a old style Hotel. I found it comfortable and meet our needs. We where their to vist friends in the area. The most important thing about our stay was the staff. Especially the restaurant staff the gave excellent service and they all gave us the feeling that they liked working their . Which made things comfortable for us.

Just loved the hotel, so quiet, relaxing after hard day at work. Could not hear a thing at night even though just off the 400. Staff really nice and recognized as Platinum Member right away.

Efficient Front Desk staff, well-maintained property, and quiet, well-insulated rooms made this a pleasant experience. I also had the luxury of radiant-floor heating in the bathroom, which was an added bonus.
I will be sure to choose Holiday Inn-Barrie next time!
