This hotel looks old and a bit tired, but has plenty of amenities and was very good value. Lots of restaurants nearby and within walking distance. Easy check in and out. Convenient location when travelling from Oklahoma through Missouri.

Ten-twelve years ago I stayed at this hotel for weeks at a time, and encouraged a half-dozen of my associates to do the same. Service, ambience, staff and management, and value were above average.
And now---the facility has deteriorated, not even a functioning dining room, bathrooms needing a flashlight to navigate, excessive noise from the highway, etc., a very distressing experience---with one exception: there are still staff members who walk the extra mile to try and please the guests.
A small number of my middle-management employees are destined to spend varying segments of time in Joplin during the next 4 to 5 months---but not at the the Holiday Inn.

From the outside of the hotel it looks new and inviting. On the inside it was another story. The room was small with small undersized beds. The bathroom looked as if it had not been used nor cleaned in some time. The towles were thin and there were only 2 bath towles....for a family of 4 people that did not work very well. It almost seemed like we were on the 'older side' of the hotel that was hidden by a new fresh looking side.

The room had an odor, and the workout facility and pool were out of service. The hotel offered day passes to a gym that did not open until 8 am, which is not viable for morning workouts when traveling on business.
The alarm clock lit up the whole room after the lights were turned off, until I covered it with a pillow.
The hotel staff was curtious.

My husband and I live in Texas and we had to make an emergency trip to our home state in Michigan for a funeral. We drove with our 3 month old puppy to Michigan straight through and on our way back to Texas we stopped in Joplin to rest. The front desk was very friendly and the best part of the hotel other than being pet friendly. When my husband and I got up to our room it was dirty, muggy, and smelled terrible. Someone used the bathroom and did not flush the toilet, so their waste was sitting in the toilet when we got to the room. The shelves in the bathroom were covered in dust and the toilet was filthy. The carpet was stained and we could not walk on it without our shoes on. The room smelled damp, muggy, and moldy. We needed more towels and asked the front desk if they could send some up. We never got our towels. The front desk called our room to check if the towels were delivered and I told her no. She said she would send someone up right away. We still did not get the towels until my husband and I were in bed sleeping. They did not show up until around 10 pm. Their were two employees and they knocked three different times very loudly. My husband did not hear it because he is a deep sleeper. I had just fallen asleep and it woke me up. Both of the employees were laughing and gossiping out in the hall. We did not need the towels anymore because we just needed to shower and sleep then we were getting up at 6 am to begin our long drive back to Texas. We were going to have breakfast but their was no complimentary breakfast, so we were going to have the breakfast bar. A woman employee was very rude and said we cannot eat in there because our dog was not a service dog. We were planning on eating outside of the restaurant because we had the puppy. The breakfast bar was $9 not including drinks, tax, and tip. We decided to just leave and grab breakfast at Sonic which was half the price and delicious with friendly service.

Hotel is very dated an in need of some TLC. Take an example from the rest of IHG and return your Inn to it's former glory.
