The hotel advertises a free shuttle service, we went to the lobby to use the shuttle and were told that it was rented out for a wedding and wouldn't be available for at least another 30-40 minutes. We had to completely change our plans which ended up ruining our evening, when asked why we weren't informed of the situation earlier all we were told was I don't know.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by rbsjulie Not up to the Holiday Inn Standards
This hotel is not up to the standards of a normal Holiday Inn. First when we checked in, my Ambassador Platinum status was not recognized. When we got to our room, it was not good to say the least. It was clear we didn't the upgrade we should as a Platinum member. We called the front desk to ask and the manager on duty moved us to another room.
The room was satisfactory but room was loud. You could hear people on either side of us and in the hallway. So not sound-proofed at all. And to top it off, they people in the room next to us were partying loud even after 1 a.m.
We would not stay here again. The next day we moved to the InterContinental where the facility was fantastic!!

Stayed for 2 nights last weekend. Hotel staff was friendly, helpful, and courteous, and accommodations were clean, comfortable, and exactly what I had reserved. Would definitely stay here next time I visit KC.

I got transferred 3 times between phn reps & the front desk because I had a gift certificate & no one really knew how to book the room using that. When I checked in the lady at the front desk didn't know either. Thank goodness the manager did.

This would of been all five stars, except for the foam cups and flimsy plastic glasses in the room. Get green and use reusable ceramic cups and glasses made from glass. Everything else was great, especially the people working at this location.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PrairieJane1 The BEST Plaza experience ever!
Wow! I cannot say enough good things about the Holiday Inn on the Plaza. I personally do not typically enjoy having to stay on the Plaza when visiting KC because it's very expensive and usually there are few amenities offered by the hotels in the area. In this case we had few options, needing to attend a wedding in the area, along with many hotels being booked due to a Chiefs game the same weekend. I was dreading another stay on the Plaza when I booked this hotel but it blew me away how fantastic it was!
First, the location is excellent with respect to the Plaza. You simply need to walk about 2 blocks downhill to the fountain at Mill Creek Park, directly across the street from shopping, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Kemper Art Museum is literally across the street from the hotel. Westport is a short drive, about 1.5-2 miles.
There was ample FREE parking in the gated, well lit parking garage, although the spaces were very tight so maneuvering was a challenge. The lobby and rooms were clean, updated and comfortable. Our room was on the 2nd floor of a wing that did not have an elevator, but no one in our party has mobility issues so it was not a problem for us (we were asked if we needed help with our bags). Our room overlooked a lovely patio with pool that would be wonderful in the summer. The fitness room was not spacious, but was clean and had several different machines. Wifi was free. We did not eat at the restaurant on-site so I cannot speak to quality or value there (there is no free breakfast).
Amenities aside, the real gem was the staff. Upon check in, we were given a scratch off game piece for being reward club members. We won a free glass of wine at the bar, which was quite nice and the bartender was lovely. Although within a few minutes walk from the Plaza, the hotel offers a free, first-come-first-served shuttle within a 3mile radius. After calling for the shuttle and waiting 20 min, a large party jumped in line ahead of us, leaving only 2 seats for our party of 4. The desk staff immediately called a taxi for us and gave us a voucher for a complimentary ride, allowing us to still make the rehearsal dinner on time. When I explained we had a wedding at 3pm the next day, they also extended us a late check out of 2pm (I was expecting noon, if I was lucky, based on previous experiences). When we realized we had forgotten toiletry items or needed more towels, etc. they responded promptly. Everyone was genuinely warm, welcoming, and kind, doing everything possible to make our stay hassle-free.
We felt we got an amazing value on this stay -- we have paid nearly twice as much for less in terms of fees for parking, wifi, late checkout, etc. on previous trips. In the future, any time we need to visit KC, I will not think twice about booking this location -- I may even learn to love staying at the Plaza!

We attended an annul reunion of Vietnam War Veterans over the Columbus day weekend and had a very enjoyable time. It was due to the hotel staff responding to our needs and gladly helping us out whenever we needed anything. Everyone from the front desk greeting us to the wait staff to the bus driver were all going the extra mile to make sure our stay was enjoyable and relaxing.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TC32 Great Location
The hotel is in the middle of dining and shopping for Kansas City, and there was free parking for our car and a shuttle to take us and pick us up nearby. The staff was friendly. The facility itself is older but was well maintained. We were there for a group function and the use of hospitality rooms and hotel areas was well done....There was a group dinner that I didn't attend that kinda went bad, but , since I think those things are pretty bad anyway, and I wasn't there, it doesn't enter into my rating (The problem was not enough wait staff and trying to do pre-ordered dinners in a buffet style...Bad plan) The beds and pillows were comfortable, the room was clean, and the hotel held up its part to make sure we had a great time. The cost was very reasonable for what we got.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by HumbleJim56 Some excellent, some poor experiences
Overall mixed. First they stuck us in the old part of the building. That room smelled musty and the toilet was sluggish to flush. Also, there was no way to get the suitcase trolley up three steps to our room as we got off the elevator. The room we were moved to in the newer section was nice, and the man they sent to help us move was very accomodating and refused a tip.
The breakfast buffet was mostly bland- the pineapple chunks were delicious, but the scrambled eggs were the most tasteless ever. A friend (at our military reunion) confided that the gravy for the biscuits-and-gravy reminded him of library paste.
For our evening banquet, we had paid for a plated dinner but were served a buffet. The Army wife who had worked with the hotel coordinator on the dinner had nothing but praise for her original contact. However, that lady had to go back to Hungary on an emergency, and her replacement informed our gal that the hotel couldn't possibly afford the staffing for a plated meal, so we got a buffet. The food, however, was excellent. As I said, overall good with a few trouble spots.keeping it from an excellent rating, IMHO.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by PJBall Room choices
My biggest complaint was the fact that I HAD reservations for 3 KING rooms and 1 double room. At check in time, we were able to get only 1 ROOM as a KING. I am not sure what good it did me to get my reservation for 3 king rooms!!! The desk staff were very pleasant to deal with but not getting the rooms that I asked for somewhat set the "tone" for the day. We were give $20 off for 1 room as the toilet overflowed and had to use all the towels in the room to mop up the water and we requested more towels but never got them. Luckily, we had one towel that didn't get used. They did come and fix the toilet. For what we paid for the room, I felt that breakfast sure could have been included in the cost. Probably won't stay here again.

My husband and I stayed in October for 3 nights. I was disappointed that my room was not cleaned each day until I requested it at 3:30 or 4 pm. We enjoyed a nice breakfast each morning. The shuttle service was convenient. I enjoy the location for its proximity to 2 museums and The Plaza shopping area.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dian71 Location; breakfast restaurant
If you want a refrigerator in your room, request it at your booking. When I got there, there were none left so they must not have very many because I went in on a Thursday before the week-end crowd. Close walking distance to Nelson-Adkins Art Museum and to Country Club plaza shopping and restaurants. Breakfast 1st morning was very unorganized at 8:00. People seated in other people's seats who were at the buffet. We stood and waited until they figured out what they were doing. I walked down to the Quik Trip a block away the next morning to get breakfast items.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Hotel is in a great location, near shopping and a highly recommended Kansas City BBQ restaurant. Room was comfortable. Breakfast buffet was excellent and the staff very friendly. Only two complaints: carpeting throughout hotel made it look drab; we stayed for three nights - the cleaning person came very late in the day when we were occupying room.

Reception: Staff members are friendly ~ competent ~ and therefore very helpful to hotel guests ~ Noteworthy during our experience were Ms. Tracee; Ms. Ruth; and
Ms. Mayuri. In the dining room ~ Ms. Mary's service was
superb. These staff members and others made us feel very much at home.
If we were to visit Kansas City again, we would again be pleased to stay at the Holiday Inn Country Club Plaza.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TravisK3 Had a Great Time!
I was sent to Kansas City MO for a conference and the hotel I was supposed to stay in was booked.
So I looked around the area and found that the Holiday Inn Country Club Plaza was right down the street and the rate was almost half the price.
I figured that it might not be as fancy with gold plated faucets and marble floors, but it would still be a decent place to stay.
So I arrive an the Country Club Plaza,
Immediately I was warmly welcomed by the staff at the front desk.
The young lady who assisted me was extremely nice, and had me checked into a great room with in minutes. She offered me the option of the hotels local shuttle if there was anywhere I'd like to go for dinner. Alternatively she told me about the restaurant there at the hotel.
Since I was tired of traveling I chose to have dinner there in the bar while watching Monday night football on the HD tv's.
The bartender was super nice and he had his hands full with other customers. Other customers did not slow him down, he was patient and took his time telling me about what they had to offer. He had recommended the bacon cheese burger, and boy do I thank him, I have to say that was one of the best burgers I have eaten in a long, long time. His service was great, he was attentive but not annoyingly so, he had the whole bar under control.
Getting back to my room, I was pleasantly surprised of how clean and neat everything was, the room was big, the sink area had a granite countertop, everything was just like it was supposed to be.
The room did not have any funny smells or stains anywhere, the internet was fast, and the HD TV was nice to catch the rest of the game on.
After waking up in the morning, I went to the Lobby to check out, again I was greeted by another warm smiling face, she had me checked out in no time.
I had purchased the breakfast option when I booked the room.
When I went to the restaurant, the service again was impeccable.
The waitress welcomed me and brought me to my table, told me about what they had to offer and brought me an orange juice.
The continental breakfast buffet was nice, everything was cooked just right and tasted great; Nothing was iffy or off.
One thing I noticed when I was eating, there was another family that had arrived for breakfast, and the little boy didn't look like he was having a good time. The waitress saw that too and approached the young man in an extraordinarily nice and fun manner. She had brought him I think an option of fun cereals to try, she had him laughing and in a good mood almost instantly.
Things like that are intangible, that goes to show that the staff really does care about the guests and the experience. I witnessed that not just once, but with everyone there that I had any contact with.
Upon leaving the hotel, I asked the front desk if the shuttle could bring me to the conference at the other hotel, they said no problem. I was there in minutes and had a great day, I really couldn't of asked for anything more.
To sum it up,
I highly recommend the Holiday Inn Country Club Plaza, great rooms, nice staff, awesome food and quality service all around.
I had a great time!

We stayed here just for one night for a friend's bachelorette party. It was a great location and the hotel was very nice. The staff was absolutely amazing! Very friendly and nice. We were not in the room much but it was nice and exactly what we needed. We got the breakfast in the morning and it was delicious. It was around $10/person which seemed a bit pricey, but it was worth it! Very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Business1Traveler Two nights at Country Club Plaza
Room decor was old, worn, and tired. I had to jam a pen cap into the drain in sink to keep it slightly open so it would drain. Was worn out long ago.
Breakfast was a greasy unappetizing expensive plate of food that was way overpriced. Bar had 4 red wines listed on the menu and was out of two of them.
Bucket in walkway to eleveators and towels around hall window on 5th floor when it rained.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Beaharm Uncomfortable room in great location
Sometimes you have to book a room based on needing to be in a specific place and that is why we ended up at this Holiday Inn. The worst pillows, a dark dreary room with virtually no options for food or drinks. We were IHG members and still ended up with a room next to the ice machine and the stairs with the joy of listening to the people coming home from the bar all night after the PLAZA art show.
This hotel needs an overhaul before we ever consider it again.
