My wife and I recently spent a long weekend at this hotel for my Army reunion. I would just like to commend the staff for all they did for our group during our stay. The free shuttle service was great, both our shuttle drivers were excellent. Showing us some of the city's interesting homes while getting us to our destination. The Hotel Manager was very accomodating to our requests, she did a fabulous job of making us feel at home! All of us greatly appreciate everything you and all the staff did to make our Reunion and memorable experience!

This hotel belongs in the category of lesser hotels except that they may feel slandered. The value of the room did not meet the cost of the room.

Our children gave us a Country Club Plaza gift card for our 25th wedding anniversary, so we booked our room with a Plaza view and the romantic package which included a bottle of champagne, flowers and a box of candy. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We love to swim and the pool was very clean and the water clear.
When we arrived in our room late afternoon our champagne, flowers and candy were not in the room. Not a big deal so I mentioned it to the front desk on our way out for dinner and they were very apologetic and when we returned it was waiting for us.
Very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere which is just our style. We'll stay there again next time.

We have stayed at this hotel many times. Check-in is always quick & efficient. The rooms are always clean & comfortable. All requests are honored.
The past two stays have had a consistent problem with breakfast. On this stay there was a line out the door with people waiting to be seated. There was no hostess or waitress to be seen. We were seated 12 minutes after I decided to time it. Many guests left the line. One morning the beverages arrived as we were preparing to leave after eating our breakfast.

We were in Kansas City Mo visiting our daughter and grand daughter. We enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Country Club Plaza mostly for the great location. You can walk to the Plaza and enjoy many shops and restaurants. The pool is clean, staff are friendly. The bed was a bit hard, but overall.....room was clean and that's what is important to us!

The parking garage was not user friendly at all. Very limited spaces and when trying to park your car it was way too tight to the other cars. I was always afraid of hitting another car. At breakfast, not enough staffing for customers.

The location just off the Plaza is very convenient, and with free parking and a free shuttle with a 3-mile radius, we really didn't need to worry about driving. That was great. The room was standard, clean and quiet. Our only quibble was the awful smell in the hallways. We learned that it had something to do with recirculating and reusing graywater, which is an eco-friendly practice we highly applaud ~ but hopefully they find a way to mask the smell.

The location was wonderful. They had a shuttle but we didn't use it. There was underground parking. There was a bit of a smell coming off the elevators each time, though. The customer service was wonderful. We were told mini-refrigerators were in each room but once we got there, we were told they were available to guests on a first come, first served basis and there were none available. We used ice and our cooler instead.

Seriously, I thought it was a great place to stay; however, there was a bad sewer smell in the hallways. They need to get that fixed because it really clouds the overall good things that this hotel has to offer. The staff was great and we enjoyed our stay.

Very disappointed with our first and last stay at Holiday Inn on the Plaza, Kansas City Mo. The hallways were dark and narrow with a strong sewage smell. Rooms featured worn chairs, dated linens and poor lighting. The parking spaces were very tight and signage from the hotel to parking was hard to figure out. One of our rooms had to have maintenance come to plunge the toilet.
From the review on your website we were lead to believe this was a recently renovated hotel and the reason for picking this location was for a family event at the Simpson House which is across the street. Our party blocked seven rooms and all of us had the same disappointment with your dark, dirty and depressing hallways. We cannot believe this hotel carries the Holiday Inn name.

Although we have stayed at this hotel a number of times, last weekend was not a good experience for us. We stayed 2 nights on the 5th floor. The entire floor reeked of something similar to ammonia. Apparently there was a problem on the lower floor or basement level but all 8 adults in our party commented on this.
Saturday night some of the guests were celebrating loudly until 3am. We don't mind a little noise and know after a wedding celebration things can get a bit out of hand but this was excessive.
Lastly, the people at the front desk seemed unable to figure out which persons were staying in which room. Then when checking out we discovered our bill was not the same as 2 of the other couples staying the same 2 nights as us. Since we had made the reservations for all, this was difficult to understand.
Hope things change or we will not be returning, even though we like the location.

I made a group reservation at another hotel for a conference at the Kansas City Convention Center. The other hotel oversold and moved my groups reservations to this Holiday Inn just one week before the event. The Holiday Inn handled things very well. There was a little confusion when I needed to cancel one of our rooms, but otherwise the transition went smoothly.
My only complaint, is that the doors to the rooms (and between rooms) need to offer better sound blocking, or there needs to be a source of white noise to cancel out some sound. I could hear every word of my neighbor's phone calls, and I was woken up from a sound sleep one night because of the voices of a group walking down the hall.

I somehow ended up in a handicap accessible room which was ok, but the shower drain was clogged and the water reached to the middle of the bathroom floor soaking my slippers. Due to all that extra water sitting around, the room was extremely humid. I felt uncomfortable, even with the air conditioner set at a lower temperature than I normally would use. Also, the thermostat reading didn't match the actual room temperature.

I stayed at this HI location for about 4 days, and was impressed with their staff. The front office folks were all very accommodating and cheerful.
I was especially wowed with one of the restaurant waitresses (I can't remember for sure, but I think her name was Mary#. She was incredibly cheerful and helpful, especially as I was looking for early morning breakfast for my daughter before her gymnastics meet #the waitress went and put a special plate together for my daughter before the kitchen even opened).
The only downside is underground parking. There is a special section for "oversized vehicles", which is a bit of a joke. It was so crowded with large vehicles that I feared not being able to get our Suburban back out. So I parked on the street. Minor issues.
Kids eat Free was definitely a nice feature, and saved me a bunch of money for breakfast.
Lots of nice shops and restaurants if you go the right direction. Go the other direction, and you'll be knocking on the 'hood.

Our experience was mixed. The staff, both front desk and dining, were excellent both friendly and helpful. We reserved a room with a view of the Plaza. If you went to the window and looked closely to the right you got a slight view of the plaza. Check in was 3PM. By 5PM the room was still not ready and we had to go to our appointment without being able to freshen up. We were there for 4 days and the pool area was not attended to and dirty most of the time. While the staff were great, it was clear that the place was totally understaffed.

The staff and management of this property are an excellent example of taking an average property in a good location and making it an experience worth noting. Their collective attitude and service easily surpassed any minor physical qualities. At the end of our stay, it sneaked up on us how our initial expectations were exceeded.
-Sales staff was communitive and responsive in organizing reservations for a room with a parlor room and cribs.
-Two cribs were already waiting in the rooms when we arrived at 10 PM with two sleeping babies.
-Recognized my status level several times through the stay.
-Front desk had pre-printed direction cards to common locations such as Walgreens and Grocery store.
-Elevators for unkown reasons have to be some of the fastest I have ever experienced.
-Restaurant and Bar staff were friendly and didn't think twice in special requests for my wife and son.
-Having a sick child who threw up, housecleaning showed up in minutes and was in our room at 6:30 PM changing sheets.
-On Duty manager moved our checkout of the parlor room just beyond the normal extended checkout times so we would not have to sit and wait at the airport.
-Nice touch for a multi-day stay with the family was the washer and dryers in the lower level.
Now the minor things:
-Fitness Center is a fitness closet. If there's more then 3 people in there, you need to go outside or to a gym.
-Parking is tricky at best in the underground garages with small spaces requiring multi-point turns between pillars.
-Pool and lounge area is relaxing, but ask if umbrellas can be put on the table(s).
-Yes, the hallways should be in the budget for an updating.
Overall, this property is a great value if you are looking to get the most for your money.

My husband and I had a wedding in KC on July 5th, so we decided to make a long weekend of it. We had a nice stay for the most part. The room was comfortable. There were a couple things that came up. We were turned away from breakfast at 10:35. Apparently breakfast ends at 10:30 on Saturdays, even though the book in the room said Sat/Sun breakfast lasts until 11:30. We used the gym as well during our stay. The equipment was newer and in great condition. When I went to get a drink from the water cooler though it didn't work.

I must say that I was very pleased with our stay at the Holiday Inn/ Country Club Plaza. I'm originally from KC and wanted to bring my son to my hometown. I read the reviews and found that this property was less expensive, so I booked our room.
The beds were VERY comfortable and the staff was especially nice. We were able to walk to Winstead's (yum!) for dinner the first night we were in town.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. Although we didn't swim, the pool looked amazing!

Location is great. Easy walk to country club plaza. The service was beyond five stars, from front desk, waitress staff to room service. Outdoor pool was great. My only issue would be that rooms and halls could use some serious updating. We will definitely stay again.

Our stay was most pleasant and our room was very comfortable.
The best part of all was the customer service. Literally every employee we encountered was friendly, positive and helpful. Any question or concern was immediately addressed. The entire staff are very guest centered and they are all obviously proud of their facility and the services they provide.
We've never been so impressed with the staff in all of our travels. The manager even personally took us to the train station because we wanted to leave before the shuttle service started at 7:00.
I hope that the Holiday Inn Corporation realizes what a gem that they have in the Kansas City Holiday Plaza.

What makes your hotel so good is the atitude and assistance of the staff, from the manager to the desk staff, housekeeping and shuttle drivers. Everyone was always friendly, and very helpful - even ready to go out of their way to be of assistance. The only exception was the breakfast staff, who seemed more interested in getting us in and out quickly, who didn't advise us that we had the option of ordering from a menu, and were not consistent in providing us statements for breakfast. Also, the food choices grew lesser and lesser the later it became in the morning.The hotel's physical plant gives the impression of an older building that is difficult to keep up. And the presence of stairs with its automobile-sized lift located toward the end of the hallway was really strange. Broken and vandalized pop machines on the the second and third floors, one with the dollar bill reader torn out, did not leave a good impression. And although staff promptly tried to get the musty smell out of our room, that smell continued during our three day stay. Your hotel staff 's attitude, helpfullness, and disposition were one of the high points of our trip. Without that, staying in your hotel would have a very average to below average experience.

Great location and they offer shuttle service to get around the area within 3 miles. The room was very clean. Everything worked well. Wonderful beds and bedding. We had an excellent view of the Plaza as well. Unlike some other reviews posted, we did have a refrigerator in our room so maybe that is something new they are adding to the rooms. My daughter and I enjoyed the pool. They have fun noodles and toys for the kids available poolside. Overall, it was a fun experience and would definitely stay there again!!

I have stayed at your hotel many times, and have to say that Mary and Diane in the restaurant are just fantastic. It is a joy to deal with them, and in particular Mary, she is always a ray of sunshine in the morning. They are such an asset to the hotel and to be treasured.
On the flip side, I got room service at the hotel and I have done many times, and this time it took an hour and a quarter for the food to be delivered and that is after calling down stairs a couple of times. I think the girl, she was new, had forgotten to place my order. Also, I left the empty tray outside my door, as I always but, but this time it was still there the next morning. Rather than doing room service the subsequent nights, I went out to eat, as it was quicker, and less frustrating.

I came to Kansas City for a workshop with Zenfolio and had no idea what I was getting into when I booked my reservation.
However I was pleasantly surprised to find the HI all the website had said it would be and more. Very clean, beautiful decor, friendly staff that were very helpful in getting me to and from my workshop location. Kevin the shuttle driver was very pleasant and even picked up my husband and brought him to meet me and then dropped us by a local cafe for lunch that was fabulous!
Over all I could not have planned a more pleasant stay and I will be returning to HI in Kansas City, next time leizure. Thanks!

Clean room, friendly staff. Pet friendly, thus a little musty smelling in the hallways but rooms clean, comfortable, fresh.
1/2 flight stairs in middle of hallways made it challenging to tote luggage, etc to rooms as you had to load/unload luggage carriers 1/2way down the hall to haul your stuff the rest of the way to the room.
No refrigerators or microwaves in rooms, too bad because there are so many great restaurants, nowhere to keep leftovers.
Appreciate private/secure underground parking.
Clearly a favorite w/ business and team event travelers, many visitors there in groups, facility had large lobby/common areas, pool to accommodate.
Good choice for KansasCity Plaza region, walkable to most venues.
