When we arrived we must have inadvertently chosen a twin room when booking on the internet, the receptionist asked us if we wanted a double and changed it. The receptionist also greeted us questioningly with our surname must have been because we were the only couple booking in but it made a nice touch. The room was large and comfortable overlooking the river. We required two more pillows and within 5 minutes of asking they arrived. October 10, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Breakfast A bit of variety in breakfast can be included. It was rather not very pleasant to see the same breakfast each day. Apart from that, the stay was very nice and we enjoyed the in-room service menu. Staff were very courteous and friendly. Though it h's nothing to do with the property, bus access to the hotel is quite limited. Of course, taxis were a call away though. Will return to stay in the same property during the next visit to Lancaster. October 8, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Staff- lovely - very helpful in all aspects Room was clean, but sooooo cold- despite following instructions to turn on radiator, I was informed at desk heating does not come on till 18.00 - however within five minutes I had a portable heater, very much appreciated.( heating never came on at 18.00! All staff were very very helpful, especially girls and guys in restaurant. Food average , nothing outstanding- If needed to return to area would use again, because now we know what it is like. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by You know what you are getting We have stayed at Holiday Inns before and know what to expect. For a "chain" hotel this is superior to most. Well appointed rooms, good space, clean and a well stocked courtesy tray for that much-needed cup of coffee. Helpful and friendly staff and no quyibbling about booking in or paying the bills, very efficient. There were two things I found fault with. One was that the sofa which doubles as a guest bed had been opened? Why, when we had registered as a couple and sharing the same bed. I had to fold the bed back up to give us the space to put our luggage. The second was the lighting above the bed which was not adequate for reading.. otherwise, well done - a great stay! Room beautifully clean and comfortable. Good meal in restaurant even though very busy. Sad didn't get the chance to use the leisure facilities - pool looked so inviting! Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by easy and convenient We booked in advance on- line directly with Holiday Inn and got a really good rate including all you can eat breakfast. It was an overnight stay to break a long journey from the south to the highlands. It's entirely probable that if we made a similar trip next year we would pick the same hotel. We chose not to eat an evening meal in the hotel as we found the restaurant menu too limited and at the time didn't meet our preferences. However, there is a nearby eatery as an alternative place to eat which provided a good choice. The fact that our room was at the rear of the hotel thereby near the river it made for a very peaceful night but it did mean that to have the window open invited in wee flying things, (there was an advisory note to that effect). All things considered we'd stay here again if need be. October 2, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect overnight stop in this well located hotel. This hotel surpassed our expectations on our recent overnight stay. Staff were friendly and attentive and the set menu dinner offered good variety of well presented and very tasty food. Buffet breakfast also provided good choice of food and service again was very efficient. Our room was a good size and very quiet, being on the river side of the building. Our only criticism was that an over full bin and discarded confetti boxes just outside the hotel entrance unfortunately affected our first impressions. Also, perhaps more thought could be paid to making the front of the hotel more attractive and inviting? October 1, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by less than quiet stay but clean and comfortable We had a fairly comfortable stay but it could have been quieter. Being placed next to the airconditioning unit was a mistake I will be sure to ask not to have a room there if I visit in the future bed was comfortable and the room very clean ,But could find no breakfast menu and price list so decided to breakfast elsewhere,not being able to find anyone onreception when we returned from our night out to ask,and another gentleman also waiting for attention October 1, 2014

Housekeeping thought that 0850 was a good time to give a single knock and try to burst into the room. Thankfully, the chain was on the door. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bad Service for first time Platinum member I rang up a couple of days before my stay to confirm my booking and my IHG platinum status where I was told it was all ready for me. When I arrived, I experienced a lot of problems during my stay: 1) I arrived around 9pm on the 5th to be told my IHG account hadnt been linked, so had to wait around while they arranged my room. 2) As my room hadnt been linked to my IHG account (though when I rang a couple of days earlier it was), I wasnt able to recieve the complimentary wifi. Lounge access was given instead, which is fine in the lounge but not on the 3rd floor on the other side of the building. 3) When I got to my room, the smell was terrible. The shower curtain hadnt been changed and had stunk the room out. 4) There was an empty bottle of wine on the shelf from what I guess was the previous occupant. 5) The TV had no image, when I turned it on I could hear it but there was no picture. After talking with reception to discuss this, the lady arranged another room for me which was much cleaner and arranged some bonus points. However, for a first stay as a Platinum member, this is the worst experience ive had so far with an IHG hotel and I really expected much better. September 13, 2014

We were offered a free upgrade which was lovely as the quality of the room was excellant. Dinner menu not too exciting and although quality of food good the lamb curry was not special. From start to finish,the staff throughout were genuinely,absolutely "naturally" brilliant,which really gives this facility the edge on other establishments I have experienced through business and leisure.Ample stress free parking too! The pool was cool,the spa and steam room set me up for the rest of the day! The breakfast was second to none! The executive room met with my families expectations,and had a sound nights sleep,however, I was disturbed by the beat of the wedding celebrations which did not stop until the early hours but still tolerable for a weekend! This proved to be an ideal base to trip out to the "heavenly" Lake district. No hassle,informative booking out, the whole experience was one which wished you could stay longer and wondering why I did not discover this facility sooner! September 4, 2014

Staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. The room was very well appointed and comfortable. The bar was impressive for stocking a range of local ale - the lack of which is a criticism of many hotels. Food in the restaurant was of good quality, both at dinner and breakfast. The one disappointment was the service by one member of staff at dinner. Having taken our order for drinks, bread and olives, he greeted people just arriving ("how nice to see you again") , took their drinks order and served them our order was ignored/forgotten. The situation was redeemed by another waiter, Lewis, who went more than the extra mile to ensure that our dining experience from that point on was excellent. We will visit this hotel again when next in the area. September 3, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good service, an enjoyable stay I would say this is value for money, the rooms we booked were a little worn but were clean and comfortable. The boys loved the pool although not the communal changing! Very quiet despite being full of families many with young children- it was a bank holiday weekend. The hotel position allowed us to explore many places from Liverpool and Blackpool to Swaledale a great selling point for us. Breakfasts were OK but not great and we did not enjoy them. The coffee was never hot and on one occasion actually cold. I am not a fan of buffet breakfasts as the individual items are seldom of the best quality. The baguettes were virtually uncooked, very unappetising, disappointing. On the other hand the dinners,we had two at the hotel,were excellent. The steaks were good and cooked by someone who knew how to cook steaks,they were perfect. The staff were excellent serving staff in the restaurant, reception and room were first rate. My grandsons left their swimming trunks in the room and a short phone call to the hotel ensured that they were sent home first class. Terrific, we would all recommend. August 30, 2014

However I was disappointed to be allocated a room next to the kitchen fan extractor, which meant if the window was open a strong smell of cooking fat entered the room. When the hotel was very lightly booked its strange that this room was pressed into service August 30, 2014
