Always appreciate our stay in Mt. Vernon. Our family lives there and we travel home 1-2 times per year to see everyone. Holiday Inn always makes our stay better!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fran2013 Graduation weekend May 2013
The staff went out of their way to assist when we had a sick child in our group and they moved our grandchildren & family to another room. The staff always wore a smile and wanted to ensure your stay was comfortable. The pool area was very clean and maintained. Nice drive to Carbondale for graduation. We will continue to stay in Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express for our "homes away from home".

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by GuestofHorror Nice pool!
I was moving to Fort Riley and I made a stop at this Holiday Inn. The room I was in was on the 1st floor and the room window wouldn't close and was open as I entered the room. I alerted the staff but really didn't feel it was much of a concern to them. The room was kind of dated along was the bathroom, honestly the Pool area was the most enjoyable area to me and made up for the other areas. Other than that it was an ok stay!

The biggest problem I have with hotel is there is no lobby coffee in the morning until the full service restaurant opens. All others that I have stayed in have morning coffee approx 4:30a.m.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by MSWoodman On average just average
Pros - good people with good attitudes., very nice indoor pool & spa area, easy access from I-57, lots of reasonable restaurant options near by.
Cons - very poor wifi in our room, reasonable signal only by going down to lobby area. Breakfast included very spartan choices. While clean the property is definately showing it's age. For example a/c very noisy.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by gypsylee77 Safest feeling EVER!
My cousin and I will long remember our stay at Mt. Vernon, .....when we arrived the back and front parking
lot was FULL of various different county sheriff's vehicles.
We were frightened at first that something had happened
(due in part to the recent bombing in Boston etc....) and then
saw that all was calm and so went in to register. We ate at
the small place across the drive and the patrons there seemed
to be associated with those filling the motel. There were men
and women, walking guard dogs on the grounds etc........we ate relaxed and slept like logs...... If ever traveling near Mt.
Vernon again, we will certainly look up this Holiday Inn Express!
Safe and Securest night we ever spent!
South Texas visitors......

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bearfan99 Horrible experience
Had to call down to the desk 3 times to report the family next to us yelling, swearing and jumping off their beds until they finally stopped around 2:30 am. The front desk said they could hear them from downstairs and the only comfort I got was they could move us to another room...at 2:30 in the morning...packing everything up...and moving my kids...great idea Holiday Inn.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Golfdiva Comfortable and good location
We were on our way home from a vacation and we usually stay at a Holiday Inn Express. However, this hotel was in a good location and the price was reasonable. The lobby area was nicely furnished and the front desk staff were pleasant and helpful. The room was plenty big and included a frig which is always nice for traveling. The room and bath were "just ok" as far as cleanliness is concerned. Nothing too serious but appears that housekeeping did a rush job or just skipped cleaning the floor. WE especially enjoyed the individual coffee maker in our room. The breakfast area was nice although the food choices were rather limited. Overall, this was a decent hotel and would definately stay again if we were in this area.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by JLPinSC Needs updated and better service
It is typical of the older HI locations, needs updating. This hotel has a sort of an unusual breakfast situation, buffet or menu so they have "waitresses." They don't even tell you about the menu unless you fall upon it by accident. They worry more about getting your room number than keeping the food stocked, then have the nerve to put out a tip basket. I have stayed a few times and have yet to figure out what these "waitresses" even do.
Like most hotels the exercise room is a joke. I am a member at Anytime fitness and there is one 2.7 mile run from the hotel.

The staff was not very friendly or helpful at all. I am an Priority Club member and they did not acknowledge that I was a member in any way even after I told them I was one I got the impression they could have cared less. Then they put me in a room with no fridge. or micro-wave. Then at breakfast the hostess was more interested in making sure I was a guest than taking care of me. All in all it was a pretty bad stay....I will not stay there again for sure.

I am staying at this hotel every week for a couple of months. Everything basically is fine. I've stayed at other Holiday Inn Express, and have found different amenities. This facility gives you shampoo but no conditioner where others give you both. The same goes for breakfast items. This facility doesn't offer orange juice, bagels, English muffins, hard boiled eggs, or pancakes at the breakfast buffet. Other facilities offer much more variety of items for breakfast. Occasionally I am recognized as priority club member.

The Internet router was broken, the desk chair in the room was broken, and the stopper in the sink was broken. All of these were reported, but nothing was done to resolve the situation. Overall condition of the hotel was run down. I won't be back.

Hotel is located close to many restaurants & close to the interstate. A bit dated but clean. Noticed door of bathroom inside veneer chipped/stripped away from the bottom upwards about 1 foot or so.
Otherwise, no issues & downstairs bar/grill economical. Free breakfast is always a bonus.

We always like the facility. We stay there twice a year. We make a reservation for the first floor so we can wheel our bikes into our room. This time our request was missed. We were lucky to get a handicapped room. We will hope for things to go a little better next winter. Just a small problem.

I had a room on the first floor, directly off the lobby. My window was a view of the parking lot. I was pleasingly surprised that I didn't hear any noise from the lobby or the parking lot all night. The room was very comfortable and had all the amenities that I wanted. It was a good stay.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by SparkyinKC Stayed once on the way to NC and then again on the way back!
We were driving to NC to look at graduate schools and made it to this hotel that evening. Great service, wonderful room. The other two were really happy with breakfast--I always have a hard time as I am allergic to butter, milk, cheese, and all that make them up (eggs are okay) So, often at these sorts of breakfasts, there is not much to eat. Here there were not even bagels (most bread, though not all, contains milk or whey or casein) Nor was there oatmeal (also usually a good thing to have at these sorts of hotels) At least there was a cereal that I could eat--and they did have apple joice I could use in lieu of either almond, soy, coconut, or rice milk. I sure wish I could have eated the eggs, though, as they did look good! There was sausage instead of bacon, which is okay if you like sausage (I prefer bacon)
On the return trip, in the morning, the exercisers tried to find the stairs as the elevator was shut for service and had a hard time finding the stairs. We decided that, for safety, signs might be a good idea.
Room was clean. We were given a great room wtih refrigerator and microwave on the way out--the initial room we were given on the return trip did not have them, but they found a room with them and switched us. Greatly appreciated as we brought popcorn in hopes that we'd have access to one!
Other than that--we arrived, on the way back, too late for our potential grad student to use the gym and that was kind of sad and there was no leeway on that--whereas a lot of places allow the gym to be open 24 hours. (I don't know why it was not--there is no one there in the daytime, either, so it was not because of an oversight issue)
Again--we liked it so much that we made sure to stay there on the return trip, so obviously it was a nice place.

Our floor had both smoking and non smoking rooms and although our room did not smell like smoke, then entire hallway would make you gag. The breakfast not not even close to the normal HI breakfast, the pool area was nice but very outdated (hot tub was kind of scarry).
We always stay at Priority Club hotels but if we are ever in Mt Vernon again, we will most definately find a different hotel.

Taking a road trip and picked Mt. Vernon out of the hat. Great choice, room was clean and updated, easy access from I57 and many major food chains a stone throw away. We however, dined at the restaurant on site and meal and service were excellent. For those interested, pub had a video game. We would definately recommend!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jack63 Great night stay ( two separate occasions-same week)
This was my first time staying here. While going to Kansas City from Atlanta, I split the trip both ways by staying in Mount Vernon. The receptionist found me a room on the first floor both nights. The rooms were clean, and in very good condition. NO problems at all. There is an attached sports bar/grill which has good drinks and fine food. The staff is very friendly.
I would recommend this location to other travelers.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Larray Excellent Room and Staff Friendliness
Staff was very friendly and helpful but I discovered later that I could have gotten 2 rooms for a price for less that I paid for the one adjoining room my daughter and I stayed in.
I don't think the desk clerk was trying to rip me off but she could have done a better job. She was very friendly.
I was not acknowledged as a Priority Club member and did not get my free water :(
Room was nice and peaceful. The lower marks were simply based on value for the $
