Reception have always been fantastic and offer a great welcome etc. The restaurant in my experience can be a bit hit and miss but overall is good. One thing that many diners seem to not like as I have sat there and listened is the automatic 10% tip charge that is added to your bill, would be far better to remove and let great service be rewarded by the customer. It is sheer pleasure staying there and we are always treated like royalty. It is well worth saying that the Staff, now our friends, are so welcoming, cheerful and willing to help and advise. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst ever Holiday Inn Experience 1. We were not informed at check in that the hotel had a temperature problem. 2. Room was very hot so I opened the window and adjusted the temperature. 3. Dinner order was not processed correctly so there was a long delay. 4. Dinner was poorly presented when it eventually arrived. 5. Dinner bill was incorrect and required 3 corrections. 6. Room was still very hot on return and at 0400 I obtained a fan from the night porter. 7. Breakfast was a shambles with unlaid tables, luke warm food and general chaos. 8. The parking fee was waived at checkout becuase of the temperature problem. My worst ever experience at a Holiday Inn. April 16, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Relaxing and comfortable Third time we have stayed in a Holiday Inn, we use it for the night before travelling on to another destination. It is a wonderful way to take the stress out of rushing to meet ferry or eurostar times, we simply travel down the day before and relax in one of the very comfortable rooms. The staff are very polite and helpful, the beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. The breakfast the next morning was fab. We had a great view of the ferry port from our room on the eighth floor and it was lovely to just chill out and watch the boats coming and going! We would definately stay at this Holiday Inn again and would recommend it too. Thanks for a very pleasant and relaxing stay. April 11, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Smoking accusation As someone who regularly stays at Holiday Inn hotels, my latest experience has dampened my enthusiasm for staying. On returning to my room following dinner with colleagues I found a letter pushed under the door of my room. The letter was telling my I had been, not may have been, had been smoking in my room and as a non smoker found this exceptionally rude. How dare a member of the staff accuse me of smoking in my room. Following a complaint to reception and requesting a letter of apology, the duty manager called me and tried to reassure me it would be taken further with whoever left the letter . It was made look even more insensitive when it was stated that the letter could have been a block letter and sent to other rooms on the landing, floor 2, which I find incredible that not only me but other guests may have been accused of smoking in their rooms. A letter of apology never appeared. The restaurant staff in HI Southampton are first class exceptionally chatty and very friendly. I travel extensively and have never been accused of anything before and I will certainly consider whether to stay in the Holiday Inn Southampton in future. March 31, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Expensive bed Hotel ideally located for an early morning meeting in Bitterne. Warm welcome on arrival however the hotel was not the best value for money. The decor was tired, in the bedroom the duvet and pillows were very thin. The restaurant and bar have no atmosphere. Additionally the food was also a little tired and very expensive for the quality served. Having stayed in Holiday Inns globally I expect a better standard. March 21, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Experience On arrival Reception were excellent even though we arrived due to appointment in city, very early. Room was clean, comfortable and lovely views over the Solent watching Red Funnell ferry going in and out. The staff overall were second to none. Polite, efficient and very enthusiastic. I have rated the value as only good due to the car parking charge that comes as a bit of a shock when checking out. Perhaps inform clients when they check-in what the fee for parking is going to be. The room we were in on the 9th floor had great views over the coastline and was spotless. Top marks to housekeeping! The breakfast was very good and the service was excellent. Must mention Ruth in the restaurant.... she was so cheerful all the time. Hotel on busy main road but no road noise in room. Would return without a doubt. March 10, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Location and welcome We had a great overnight stay here. The location was perfect, just minutes walking to the Isle of Wight ferry and West Quays shopping centre. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and the breakfast was good, plenty of choice. We made good use of the pool facilities. The room was very quiet and the view was great. I very much recommend this hotel and will stay again when we return to the area. February 26, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good hotel with great views. Check-in was easy thanks to the high level of customer care offered by the receptionist. He was genuinely friendly and helpful. We were very pleased to be upgraded to an Executive room, which was well equpped with new looking furniture including two comfortable armchairs and small coffee table in front of the floor length windows. Probably the best thing about this hotel is the location, overlooking Southampton Water, and from our room on the 8th floor we could watch the ships coming and going and at dusk hundreds of starlings swooping about in the sky. You don't really need the TV with this view, but the TV was a large flat screen model with plenty of channels. The bed was very comfortable and made up with good quality linens. A special mention must be made about the cleanliness of the room, which was absolutely spotless. Overall a good hotel which I look forward to visiting again. February 18, 2013

For reasons I can't go into the staff at Southampton holiday inn where very very very helpfully - me and the wife turned up fully booked in advanced, all paid for , all set for waving off my parents on a cruise. So when me mentioned we had another ' guest ' of the canine variety we were fully expecting a firm but fair decline of accommodation for it. Well they surpassed themselves in politeness, compromise and understanding. I cannot thank them enough. I know everyone has there our standards of what makes a good stay/hotel, but in our opinion it's about human kindness. All your asking for is bed to sleep on, like you do at home. So anyone that makes you feel like you sleeping in a big family home, does it for me ! Thnakyou all. January 16, 2013

The breakfast was of very good quality, choice and quantity. The drinks in the bar were a little on the expensive side as was the hotel parking. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by December stay This was our third stay at this hotel, and as good a break as our previous 2. We often stay here before we cruise and its great, we always get a room that overlooks the ship terminal. We actually stayed for 2 nights before our new year cruise so that we had some extra time to explore the area. We had a great time visiting Hythe and Portsmouth nearby. And the main sights of Southampton are within walking distance of the hotel. Rooms, and beds, are very comfy, and the hotel is in a great location The staff always ask us which ship we are on, and are all very friendly. Shame to note that parking is now charged though, but that wont deter us from using this hotel again, in fact we are about to book 2 more stays there this year. January 5, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Platinum Level Shame after eventually managing to acheive Platinum Status this year to find there wasn't really any difference at all! We were hoping to be upgraded to an executive suite only to find out that there aren't any ! We had the same standard room as usual only this time on the back of the hotel.However the views over the docks at night time was absolutely superb! We were also treated to two chocolate bars,two bottles of water and the use of two towelling house robes which had seen much better days! The upgrade to Platinum level did allow us ONE complimentary drink at the bar.Yes that was ONE drink between TWO.I feel that the Platinum Staus in THIS establishment needs to seriously be reveiw ed to make staying on this level worthwhile.
