We had stayed at the Holiday Inn in Winchester and had such fantastic service we thought this would be the same.
What a difference between the two.

We stayed here overnight before our Cruise - we have stayed here before and enjoy the view of the harbour. The staff are always efficient and friendly - the food is good, particularly the breakfast. The rooms are large and bright. We would stay here again.

We booked this hotel as it was near to the cruise terminal. It was certainly that. We found a good deal on the internet. We also parked the car at the hotel as it was cheaper than car parks.
The hotel and staff were great. We would certainly use this hotel again.

Following an unfortuately situation with a cruise ship, my 7 year old granddaughter and myself transferred to the holiday Inn where we stayed for 2 days. the staff were very helpful, and l received a reduction in price for second night because of situation l found myself in. the facilities were good, Food was of a very good standard and children ate for free. The swimming pool was a bonus which my granddaughter found particularly enjoyable. One staff member even offered me the use of his own personal car which l thought was beyond the call of duty.
I would recommend this hotel to eveyone it is outstanding and very welcoming

We stayed at this Hotel for four nights after getting off a cruiseship at the Port of Southampton. Many people from the cruiseship headed straight to London, but we decided to stay in Southampton so that we could explore the surrounding areas, such as Bath, Salisbury and Portsmouth. We should have done the same thing too instead of staying at this Southampton Holiday Inn.
To get ready for a shower, I hung my shirt onto the only hanger behind the bathroom door. The hanger fell and hit my right foot. The hanger was left on the counter for the next three days and we had nowhere to hang our clothes during showers.
The bottom of the bathroom door was showing signs of rotting. Paint was lifting.
There is a hole covered by the garbage can in the bathroom floor, looked like it was drilled recently for a water pipe.
The gap underneath the bathtub was half-sealed. A screw was sticking out where a trim was to be installed. The trim was missing.
The sink was so low that it worked best for someone on wheelchair. For me, I had to bend all the way down to get to the sink to wash my face. I think the Hotel must have thought that I was a wheel-chaired person, but they never asked to confirm.
As a Gold Elite IHG member, I was extremely disappointed. My advice to you: if you could find another hotel nearby, do so.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Southampton prior to a cruise. Although the room had a high floor and a great view of the water, we were dismayed by the fact that the room did NOT have a queen bed, or even two double beds. Only one small double bed for the two of us. At these prices, there should have been a queen. Also, NO dresser drawers. "Coffee in room" consists of a teakettle and packets of instant coffee! Not the same as a coffeemaker! Worst of all, our room on the 9th floor was absolutely freezing cold, so much so that we asked for (and were supplied) with extra blankets. All staff would say was that yes, there was a problem with lack of heat on the 9th (top) floor, but did not give any further explanation, offer to reduce our room rate, etc. Nothing. Would not stay there again, despite convenient location.

Location is near the cruise terminals. Suggest you spend the L5 to hire a taxi rather than walk. We toured the city walls and had dinner at a nice pub.Lots of stuff within walking distance. Did not use hotel food service but nice to have it available. Room was standard H I quality level. Nice view from upper floors. Staff was very good. Answered our questions and arraigned the taxi to the dock.

I couldn't fault the staff at this hotel. A genuinely warm welcome at reception and very attentive staff at breakfast made our short break a pleasure. From our room on the 7th floor we could watch the ships as the sun set...
It's a pity that all the beds in this hotel are standard doubles though with no king size option, especially if you are used to a bigger bed.
I really enjoyed my stay here and will definitely be coming back.

Having stayed in the hotel many times although not for a number of years I was very disappointed with the service we received in the bar and restaurant. We had a 15 minute wait for a menu in the bar and a long wait for food and drinks. We thought that was bad until breakfast. A queue formed for a table. There were a number of tables empty but needed clearing. It seemed one woman was trying to do everything. It appeared the restaurant was very under staffed. At one point one of the guests helped to clear some tables. Not a good experience at all! Next time in Southampton we will be in a different hotel.

Pre-booked dinner, bed and breakfast for an overnight stay prior to sailing. Excellent cleanliness over the whole hotel and room was comfortable and fairly large. Advertised sea-view was only from the extreme corner of the window. Dinner service was very slow, half-hour between starter and main although staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good, lots to choose from and full English was hot. Reception staff very helpful and efficient. Would use again.

Stayed for a night pre cruise, cannot fault the service and friendliness of the staff, ate in the restaurant for evening meal and breakfast both times were excellent really enjoyed the evening meal. Will certainly use again when in southampton

On arrival greeted by cheerful staff.
Room comfortable and clean.
When we were there it was extremely busy and they were down members of staff, but credit where credit is due, Callum,Jack,Sara and even Holly (from reception) all mucked in to make sure that people were served as quickly and efficiently as possible with a smile. David the manager that evening was doing everything in his power to ensure smooth running.
We had a lovely evening there and will be very happy to return.

We stayed here the day before going on a cruise, and booked stay and cruise, for the parking, whilst we were away. The hotel is only a short taxi ride, to the cruise terminal, which the receptionist was happy to arrange for us. The hotel is also walking distance of a large shopping centre.
The staff at the hotel were all very friendly, and helpful. The room we had, over looked the dock, it was very clean and comfortable, and the breakfast in the morning was excellent.
This stay, made it, an easy start, to our cruise.

On the positive side we had a nice welcome, nice room, good location, nice warm pool (perfect for kids) and sweets for the kids on the Peppa Pig package. We had a great meal the first night with my son's meal arriving first very quickly, ideal when you have a toddler. Service was a bit lacking when we came to pay but it was a minor issue. However it went downhill from there.
The first night the air con kept turning itself to heat at 24 degrees and it was too noisy with road works outside to have the window open. My husbands hair wax melted it was so hot so we slept badly. Reception said it was sorted out but it did exactly the same thing the following night but luckily we'd had the window open all day so room temp was OK overnight.
We were told on checking in that booking a table for dinner was advisable. We booked for 7pm and were there for an hour and a half and there must have been only 6 tables occupied in that time. The following day we were at Peppa Pig world so we weren't sure when we would be ready to eat so didn't book a table as there appeared to be no problem and we would be eating early. We went down just after 6:30 when the restaurant opened and queued for someone to notice us and speak to us. When finally someone came to the desk they informed us that the earliest they could let us have a table was half 8 ! I looked at her in disbelief as there were only half a dozen tables occupied. I explained my son was 3, was already very tired and we couldn't wait until then and she just gave a half shrug. I was very upset and panicking about feeding my son so we shot out of the hotel to try to find somewhere to eat. We ended up in Ikea as it was the only place close that would be quick. So after a mediocre dinner in Ikea in our smart clothes we got back to the hotel about an hour later and the restaurant was if anything even less full ! I was so angry that they hadn't given us a table I took pictures of the empty tables which I intend to forward to the head office.
The staff at reception tried to make reparation the next day by refunding our meal cost for the previous night but nothing can compensate us for what happened. It was supposed to be my son's birthday treat and we ended up wandering the streets of Southampton looking for somewhere to eat for a fussy overtired toddler. It is incomprehensible to me that they would turn us away when there were so many tables free and lose the money we would have spent with them. Where is their business sense let alone customer service but they couldn't have cared less about us.
Finally at breakfast the following morning we were there about half 8 and were seated next to the pancake machine in the thoroughfare so we were both constantly jostled. I had the last croissant despite breakfast continuing until 11am, they were waiting for a delivery apparently. You only get a single drink at breakfast which isn't enough for us so my husband snuck over and poured us another cup from the waitress' pot on the second morning after we waited in vain for a second cup to be offered the first morning.

Have stayed for 5 days at Holiday Inn Southampton. I was allocated on 1st Floor. It was a very bad experience where I could hear voices from down stairs, the juice mixer etc from the restaurant at ground floor. There was a loud noise from the alarm in the room and I could not sleep until morning. The room did not have curtains !! instead it have sliding doors where you will be in total darkness and need to turn on all the lights. I wonder why did they give me such room ? was it because I am Asian ? Have requested for room change but the counter staff told me that there was no more rooms available, for the 5 days period ?? The morning breakfast was excellent but the menu should be changed say every 2 days. I have the same breakfast every morning for the whole 5 days...just imagine that! and 5 days without wifi!!

Had a very nice stay for the second time at this hotel. The duty manager was very helpful and changed our room to a suite because the heating wasn't working, which made our stay even better. The rest of the staff are very pleasant and welcoming

My sister and I have just returned from a very relaxing weekend at this great hotel. We received a very warm welcome from Andy and his colleague when we checked in. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and having a choice of soft or firm pillows was just brilliant. We dined in the restaurant on both evenings, and thoroughly enjoyed our meals (thank you Chef), the staff were very attentive and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was amazing, such a fantastic choice of food and well worth experiencing. We were looked after by Ruth and Mellie on both mornings, and again, made to feel very welcome. I will definitely be returning here in the Summer, along with my Grandchildren, to take advantage of the special package they have here to visit Peppa Pig World. Thank you once again to all the staff at Southampton Central, and I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

This was a most enjoyable stay. Good location. Great views. Good food. The staff were by friendly especially the restaurant staff, they were lovely.
The room was a little warm though and the air con wasn't great so with that and being next to a squeaky lift we didn't sleep well at all on the first night. The next night wasn't so busy so the lift wasn't in use so much so we did feel more rested the second night. We had very good room service too and quite reasonable priced for a Hotel. I would definitely use this Hotel again.

Without doubt of the best Holiday Inns have ever stayed at. Everything and more you would expect from a Holiday Inn. However it was all the staff that truely made it work. without them I would not be writing this review, an absolutely fantastic team - each and everyone of them. Nobody was ever miserable and it was always service with a smile, you knew they enjoyed their job and they weren't happy until you were. It was never too much to go the extra mile, I wish more hotels could take a leaf from your book. Thanks to everyone at HI southampton. True role model hospitallity,
