Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Taking the mickey - Smokin Jokin ! Arrived at 2230. Slow check-in (only 1 staff member), had to ask for a paper as was not offered. Given room at furthest end of hotel. had heavy bag and there is no lift and no offer of help (was tired having just driven 11 hours driving across Europe thus not amused), so up stairs and thru many many sets of naff swinging doors . Get to room and find it is in the smoking section and it reeks, truly disgusting. My profile clearly shows non smoking. Drag heavy bag all way back to reception. Told no more double rooms left only twins and this one is at the other end of the hotel facing the leisure suite and the extractor fans. Going quietly ballistic by now. Go to get some bits out of car. stop by at reception and complain (wow by now there 4 staff there when no one trying to check in) and advise that in the morning I want to see the Duty Manager. I am advised that there is one on duty now. After long wait, nice lady appears and I recount my tale. I explain that tomorrow I will write and less than positive review of hotel and staff, and head off to my room. Get phone call 10 minutes from same lady. Offered refund of room and a free breakfast. I take kind offer but still not in good mood especially when desk light dies on me, give up and go to bed. Next morning breakfast is a shambles. Staff are very good, but not enough of them. The problem is 2 coachloads and 40 bikers all descend at once, grrr. Not hotels fault but if the numpties at reception had told me about this at previous night's check-in could have come earlier and saved much time and waiting for hot food to be replenished. Also what is it with this fad for spicey sausages only. If you want to serve them fine, but for crying out loud do plain ones as well. Was glad to checkout - and yes communication had broken down and they did try to charge for room and breakfast, clowns ! Will not be back there in a very long time, which is a shame as I used to stay there often with my kids (and now it is sad in severe need of a refurb especially the windows and the useless heating/air-con). Warm welcome extended to me & was delighted to have my room upgraded - thank you! Room was very good indeed. I forgot my very old 'phone charger for my very old mobile 'phone... but a chance request at reception to see if they had one was successful; amazing what is kept behind the reception desk - great stuff! Very relaxing overnight stay... with very good breakfast next morning. All staff here are very polite, helpful & welcoming. Some of the décor in hallways etc could do with a spruce-up, but all-in-all really good. April 1, 2014

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Relaxed and friendly atmosphere I've stayed here quite a bit in January and February with more to come in March. The staff are incredibly friendly and it's the little things like remembering you by name, stopping to chat that do make the difference. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the ones I've stayed in have been of a good standard and any problems have been sorted out swiftly. The menu is varied and interesting, certainly there's enough choice available so that a guest doesn't get bored. The selection of the bar is ok, there is a lack of a decent real ale on tap, it's all fizzy beer but I expect there's reasons behind that. I turn up to some hotels with a sense of dread, it's nice to say that I feel welcomed by the staff here and I genuinely feel relaxed and at ease. February 21, 2014

What impressed us most was our meal in the restaurant on the Friday night. The food and its presentation was as good as I have had anywhere. Looking forward to seeing you again soon :) . Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rooms We booked a double room & Bed but when we arrived we where given a small room with bed against the wall. so you could only get in one side. my wife has a bad back so this was not suitable. The young lady on reception was very good and found us another room. the room was a nice family room which seemed excellent. We went to bed but soon found out that there was Heating & Air conditioning units outside the window that stopped us getting to sleep. I had to get up and get dressed and go back down to reception. again the receptionist said she was very sorry and would try and find us another room. unfortunately she could only give us a room with single beds so I had to take it. Despite the single beds the rooms was excellent and we had a good nights sleep for the seven nights we where staying. I must say that the staff are excellent and the service is very good and we will be staying again later in the year. February 10, 2014

The staff here is Swindon are amazing, they are credit to the Company, nothing is too much effort. only downside is that I'm a weight watcher so I would like to see some healthy options on the menu. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn, Marlborough Road, Swindon Had a poor stay here. We use Holiday Inn a lot, as IHG reward club members, and always upgrade. We had booked an 'executive' room, which turned out to be a normal room with 2 bottles of water, a kit kat and 1 bath robe. We are used to having to ask for the 'extra' robe, (why, when its booked as a double?, and no slippers, as usual!), but this was such a disappointment we may change hotel brand. On the main website it says an exec room has a mini bar, safe, and the robes/slippers as above, but not only did we NOT get that, the room was so small I had to stand up while working at the desk to allow my wife to move around the room. It was one of the smallest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in, ever! We did ask at reception about moving to a more adequate room but they said all the rooms are the same size, and offered a bottle of wine as a sweetener. The staff were friendly, and tried their best to assist, but still felt a little hard done by. January 29, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Poor housekeeping This hotel was perfectly fine in most respects. The welcome at check-in was excellent and the room seemed clean and tidy. The restaurant was a little sterile and the food nothing special (nothing wrong with it, just pretty standard). However when I used the bathroom I noticed that there were some 'odd' dirty brown marks on the inside of the door frame. I will leave it to your imagination what it actually was (obviously I have no way to determine this). Another problem was that I had a bottle of water in my room but when I went to have a drink of water I realised that it had already been opened and some had been used. I raised my concerns with the hotel at check out and the duty manager was summonsed but she didn't seem particularly interested (asked me what she could do to make up for this and promptly walked away when I said I wasn't looking for recompense). The receptionist on the other hand was excellent and gave every impression of actually caring. January 11, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2013 casino night Our party night (13/12/13) was a great sucess and a very enjoyable experience for myself and the other 43 in our group,staff were friendly and polite and nothing was any trouble . The whole staff from reception to house keeper were profesional and made our time there a better experience. Some of us stopped the night and again couldnt fault the room or service,Breakfast buffet was great with a wide range of food both hot and cold and all in a relaxed atmosphere. would have no problem recomending this hotel January 7, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by First night not good Our room was so small there was no room to walk round one side of the double bed, but wonderful Beth in reception sorted us out next morning after the coach tour departed and we moved to a much nicer one for the second night. The restaurant menu was still very limited as no deliveries over Christmas period but we were compensated with a bottle of wine so all in all we shall probably book there again as it's convenient for family visits. The hotel itself is good and the rooms are a great size.I know the staff are unable to anything about it but when the time comes to revamp the hotel thought should be given to the bathrooms.They are big and could be turned into a proper wet room. Not 100% happy with the food due to the sirloin steaks ordered were quite tough in parts. However the restaurant staff were excellent and made up for the shortfall of this one aspect of our stay. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Small double bed Not the best night sleep I've ever had. There was a loud Xmas party going on but our room was far away from it which was good. Except the double was one of those small 4ft doubles. If it was just myself in the room it would be fine but with was very cramped with my boyfriend. Didn't sleep well at all. I've stayed in other holiday inns and there never been a problem with the bed. But apparently in that hotel all the doubles are that size and would need to upgrade to a family room. The only thing that let this hotel down was a noisy group of guests who were very loud at 2 a.m. They must have woken the entire hotel. December 9, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great food friendly staff We booked this holiday inn on the way to Gloucester for a hockey match. After a very bust week we just wanted to relax and have a swim and nice meal. I booked the dinner bed and breakfast package. We have stayed at many Holiday Inns and I can honestly say that as far as staff and food goes, this was far and away the best. The hotel is a little tired looking and the pool small, but all was clean. Our room was quite a way from the reception but it was very quiet. ALL staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Normally with the dinner package, the food items included are nice but limited, not so here. The menu and choice were extensive and we were told that we only had to pay a little extra if we wanted the steaks. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully cooked and very flavoursome. A fantastic stay. we will definitely be returning. December 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fantastic venue I stayed in Swindon delivering an induction course for two weeks. So as well as sleep I delivered the course from the hotel conference rooms too. Normally when we do this we stay in the holiday express chains up and down the country. Which to be honest are tolerable. Each venue has it's faults whether it be the food was a let down, there was no leisure facilities etc. This holiday inn was fantastic. The food was amazing and I mean all of it. Breakfast lunch and evening meals were amazing. I was informed there is a new chef who has earned a Michelin star and it shown. The room was large and clean. Pool, gym, jecuzzi and sauna. Sky sports in bar and pool table. But the staff as a room guest and conference room guest were unbeatable. Thank you so much. Definitely recommend this venue. December 3, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stay made special by excellent service by friendly staff The hotel was of the good standard that you would expect from the Holiday Inn brand. The room was comfortable and clean, there were good gym and pool facilities and breakfast was a good standard (a little expensive but was balanced by the relatively cheap price of the room). The part that made the stay special was the excellent service provided by the staff - they went out of their way to ensure that our weekend in Swindon was fulfilled - helpful with directions, advice about restaurants and places to visit, arranging taxi services - nothing was any trouble whatsoever - all done with a smile!
