My significant other and I arrived at this location (Holiday Inn Express - 600 Briarwood Cir. Ann Arbor, MI) for a nights stay on May 8th, as we had plans downtown that evening. Upon entering, we were greeted by two front desk employees. One very short in conversation, quite rude, and walked away from us 'mid-check in' for the other (more polite) front desk employee to finish checking us in; certainly wasn't a warm, hospitable welcome.
The room was clean, comfortable, and well-stocked. Pool area was also tidy, and we met some very friendly, helpful staff members away from the front desk. Aside from the earlier encounter, it seemed like it would be an overall fair experience...Until breakfast the next morning when we met an extremely rude employee named 'Abigail', I believe.
My significant other and I were in a bit of a rush to check out but decided to grab some breakfast before we left. We noticed a sign that said the option was available to "ask for a small to-go bag" so we could enjoy some of the amenities on the road. So, we walked to the front desk and asked Abigail for a small bag. She quickly spit back a "WHAT?!" We calmly explained what we wanted, and pointed out the sign. She rolled her eyes and stormed off over to the breakfast area. At this point she yells out "Can someone get these LOVELY PEOPLE a bag for their food?!" in the most sarcastic, condescending tone, rolling her eyes the entire time, and then immediately storms back behind the front desk . This was in a small, crowded room full of people and It was VERY embarrassing. People stopped eating and stared at us with obvious sympathy for the very transparent, aggressive outburst by Abigail. We walked over to check out, she was still being obnoxiously rude, and condescending to us; speaking to us like we were children in the most passive aggressive manner. Her attitude was so unbelievable that we exchanged words and left immediately.
This was absolutely unacceptable behavior by her, especially as a customer service employee. Staff can make or break an experience in a business oriented in hospitality, and she did just that. I would have a hard time recommending an establishment like this to anyone so long as people like Abigail can work there and get away with treating paying customers this way.
Hotel was nice, but that unfortunate situation trumps whatever fond memories took place beforehand.

Everything was great but the price was a little high compared to other Holiday Inn Express Hotels. Could be an Ann Arbor thing.

service and everything was average, room was clean and mostly quiet besides loud slamming doors, close to U of M for hospital needs, could have better front desk staff, pool area clean but very loud from echoes, breakfast was normal, older decor
