Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bierbrauer Begrenztes, dafür teures Vergnügen

If for no other reason, you need to stay at this Holiday Inn Express because of the courteous, friendly and accommodating staff. It was incredible how attentive and helpful they were, especially Karess.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by James91582 Don't stay at the garbage Holiday Inn Express in Brooklyn at Union St
This place is garbage, don't waste your money. There was beard hair on my pillow cases and snot on the sheets. There was used soap left in the shower. Although the sheets were changed, the cleaning crew in the morning was constantly yelling outside my door in Spanish like it was a playground instead of a hotel. If you stay here don't expect to get a goodnight's rest with people literally yelling outside your door while the staff does nothing about it. I would definitely not waste my money to stay here again. I'd rather stay at a homeless shelter than this garbage place.

Incident happened on 22 May, 2013. Car key and all chargers of the my electronic items were stonlen. All these items were kept in the drawer, not an open area. Hotel manager stopped me to report to police and promised to check the CCTV. However, didn't call back, didn't follow up. It costs me over $1500 to get replacements.

I stayed in this hotel for an extended amount of time for a business trip and the staff was very accommodating and helpful. I needed to have several things picked up and sent to and from the hotel and the staff was always very helpful in the process. They were very friendly and I greatly appreciate their efforts to go above and beyond to help!

I was provided a corner room and allowed to check in earlier than I had previously intended. Room was quiet and all staff were friendly with each interaction.
Of all the places I go for work, the staff at this hotel have made me feel the most comfortable.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by NYC1230 NO breakfast
We stayed at this hotel while in town visiting family. We went downstairs for breakfast around 7:20 a.m. Their breakfast hours start at 6:30 a.m. There was no breakfast out. My husband went down to the front desk to find out what was going on. The majority of the staff seemed unaware that there was a problem and no breakfast was out. Only one employee seemed to be aware of the problem. He told us that the manager with the key to unlock everything for breakfast wasn't arriving until 8:30 a.m. (2 HOURS after breakfast is supposed to start). For a hotel that offers free continental breakfast, this was unacceptable. We ended up having to leave the hotel to find something to eat. The hotel staff was not very friendly either. I called before we arrived to confirm a few things about our reservation and the man who answered the phone was not pleasant to speak with at all. We will not be returning to this hotel next time we're in town visiting family.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by shook2 Friendly Staff
We had a very enjoyable stay at this location. Just a few steps from Public Transportation and a short ride into Manhattan. The staff was very helpful, and friendly, and the rooms were very clean. It was only a few blocks away from the venue for our nephew's wedding which is one big reason we chose this location. While we did not spend a lot of time at the hotel ( we were exploring the area), when we were there it was a pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Our stay was highly pleasing. The staff did their utmost to ensure we were comfortable and had everything that was needed. The continental breakfast was very varied and the server was very accomodating. Some peak period prices are hefty, so do shop for various deals.

Despite numerous calls requesting rooms next to each other, they put my 2 twelve year old granddaughters in a room around the corner from us, next to an exterior door.
The thermometer could not be adjusted above "67 degrees"
and we were FREEZING all night.
Our rooms were in the basement.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by payingattention Wonderful Staff
The folks at this Holiday Inn (Union St., Brooklyn), provided the friendliest and most welcoming service I have ever experienced in a hotel. We were made to feel at home the minute we walked in. Breakfast was excellent, and the staff there attentive and courteous, over and above what would be expected. The room was comfortable, the beds were excellent, and everything was spotless. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by bjnewness Excellent customer service!
We are Priority Club members with Holiday Inn and we have stayed at a number of Holiday Inns...but we have NEVER experienced the incredible customer service this hotel staff offered throughout our stay. The minute we arrived (a few hours early), the front desk rearranged some rooms so that we could check in early; our smoke detector in our room malfunctioned late one night and they immediately opened another room for us to sleep in (without having to move all our things to the other room - returning to our room first thing in the morning) while they fixed the detector. Every morning a staff member made sure everyone in the breakfast area was served and taken care of - including passing out complimentary bottled water to each and every person eating breakfast. The front desk staff (Karess, Christina and Terrance) were amazing. They were attentive to our needs, quick to offer assistance or directions around town, and wore constant smiles. Even the manager came by during one of our breakfasts and asked were we having a pleasant stay. We give this hotel a HUGE thumbs up!!!!

I really enjoyed my stay. The staff was very accomodating. Christina was wonderful. She actually helped me to my room and unloaded my cart. It was way beyond the call of duty and I really appreciated her efforts.
The parking was a little inconvenient but I know it is New York!
I did actually recommend this property to my co-workers.

The hotel is well staffed and the staff are wonderful. The location is perfect. Lots of very good restaurants and other shops in the immediate area. Close to everything including the subway. Breakfast is about average, Hot Food Choices, Pastries, coffee is good. Rooms are on the small side but very clean and comfortable. For the money it is a good deal.

The staff was real accomodating especially Tasha. It was a real pleasure seeing her smiling face in the morning, making sure that everything was ok, making sure that we had our water as we left to work. Like i was once told " its's not the big things but the small thing that people do that make you feel important", and she did that everyday that we were there.

Stayed here again and had absolutely no regrets! Even in the farenheit teens the room was warm and cosy. Clean, friendly, quiet and very near the R train for onward travel. Change at Dekalb to get the Q train to the city with great views as you cross the river above ground!
Manager very attentive and present at breakfast to talk to guests - don't get that very often!
Only gripe would be that there needs to be more of a fruit option at breakfast. There were hard whole apples, oranges (very hard to peel!) and bananas(overripe), but a simple fruit salad prepared to go with the great yoghourt choice would be even better. The plastic knives didn't do much to apples - broke three trying to cut and peel! Needs sorting.
But hey, a real gem and if they can keep the price reasonable, this will be our NYpreference.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DCDeb Had a relaxing stay!
The hotel is great, and the location is convenient . I was greeted by Terrance. He was friendly and professional, and gave me information about the area dining options. They also have menus at the front desk. The building is very secure and all visitors are announced. I liked that. The parking is not so good, because of the limited spaces (first come, first serve), so I had to move the car.. (Not happy about that, since it was not mentioned on the site at all, but the lot is just down the street, although it would have been nice to know before I parked in the back. You might want to call before you arrive to check on the parking status, save yourself the hassle. Overall this is a very nice hotel, the room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the pillows are nice. The decor is not up to date, but it was clean. The desk chair was stuck in low, and the arm chair was not comfy to me. One thing I did notice is the hall carpet could use shampooing. Smelled like a gym, or old sneakers. I saw cleaning crews everywhere, so they do clean, but like I said there was a slight odor in the hall, but not in the room. I will go back again, and I will tell others. Also I had leave early in the morning so I did not go to breakfast, but the dining area was also very clean and inviting.

We love the breakfasts, the service is friendly, and the bed is comfortable.
We were unhappy because at 9 am one morning, the water was cold, and we waited 45 minutes for it to get warm. The next day, hoping to avoid the problem, we showered about noon, and the water was cold again.
The room was also dusty in the corners.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Lisa224 Room uncomfortably hot
The room temp was 75 and with the air blowing and the windows open I could only get it down to 73.
Needless to say the hustle and bustle of the noise kept me up all night long. Room temp should be able to be controlled more specific to the rooms. While I recognize that it was warmer than usual for the time of year in NYC, it was unbearable and impossible to sleep.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was there over 2 months working for FEMA. They always greeted you, looked up info and were happy to see you. Great breakfast, beds and linens.
I was in a basement room and 3 times reported that after rain the floor by the wall gets wet. They were crowded most of the time (disaster and holidays) and I did not insist on moving because it was very quiet location but would have moved if they had asked and offered assistance in moving things. They were suppose to send someone to check the problem. Each time the maintenance man checked it saw that it was wet and said send they would look into it. They never did. I believe they knew of the issue and since I am an easy customer they let it ride. I worked 12 hr days 6/7 days a week. With hotels at a premium for the disaster I wasn't moving.
There was also a hole in the side wall and the plug was pulling away from the wall. The whole room may have issues from the water. Maids could dust better.
I was there over 2 months and they never even offered moving me to a nicer room.
It is a NY hotel and I heard of other people's stay in other city hotels with extremely small rooms and I usually don't complain but you should look into the water damage before they forget.

We often visit Brooklyn to see our grandchildren and always stay at the HIE. It is convenient, well run, and the staff is polite and attentive. The rooms are snug but comfortable and very clean with hardly any signs of wear. The breakfast offers variety and is good. We will return.
