I had a very comfortable stay, room was very clean, decorated nicely, modern furnitures & enjoyed the breakfast. The only issue I had was my room is facing a very busy road & I heard all the noise from cars & trucks all night long. It's probably time to upgrade the windows, at least the rooms that are facing the busy street. Although I did not get enough sleep, I still had a very pleasant relaxing stay.

I am a Priority Club member and have stayed at many different Holiday Inn Express properties. I am always pleasently greeted and checked in with no delays. Not in Columbia! I stood at the counter for almost 20 minutes while the clerk conducted what was obvious a personal phone call. He reluctantly decided to check us in, but with attitude. When I asked about an upgrade, Plantim Status, he told me that I would be lucky to get a room, even though I had reservations made two weeks in advance. He never acknowledged my Priority Club membership, which seems to be a common thing when checking in at other IHG properties. I can live without any acknowledgment of a club membership. But I can't accept being treated as if I were a nuisance. When I asked him how far we were from Fort Jackson, his exact response was "Its late, you need to go to your room now". Again I asked. His second response was "you need to go to your room now". He wasn't wearing a name tag, so I asked for his name. And again, I was told to go to my room. The night clerk definitely did not want to be helpful, much less be at work. I will be returning to Columbia later this year. I will NOT stay at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown.

My daughter and I stayed here for the Justin Bieber concert. The location was great and considering our room was facing the main road, you couldn't hear the vehicles. The staff was amazing and very welcoming!

Second time staying at this location - very close to my daughter's place who is a student at USC so love the location. Loved the room both visits - fridge makes it nice and very quiet. Will stay here again, as long as there is availability! Hard to get a room sometimes and hate how the prices are jacked up during football season in all the downtown hotels in Cola!

We stayed here on Thursday on our way to Charleston. It was a great location. It was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We also stayed here the following Monday night on our way from Charleston to catch the plane in Charlotte. We had time Tuesday morning to go to Finlay Park, it was really a nice and relaxing park with water falls and beautiful trees with a great view of downtown.

While the room itself was excellent, the customer service while checking in was not. Never when I booked my room over the phone was it told that we had to pay with a credit card first then use cash at check out. Had that been explained then I would have never booked on my card because my card was to simply hold the room. Nevertheless we eventually got it squared away with me giving the cash to my friend who in turned paid with her credit card after it took the rep 20 minutes for him to re-book my room as well as I having to repeat myself that I am a IHG member and would like my stay added to my account. My organization picked this hotel for our guest to stay. Also I was told while we were waiting on some people to meet us at the hotel so that we could leave for our destination for the day, a guest associate had an issue with one of the ladies who simply asked about using the bathroom in the main area. The rep never confronted us about the issue, but the fact of the matter that it was brought to our attention had determined that we may not consider this location for our group. Should I also go into the lack of communication as far as getting the contract signed, the inquiry on the ballroom (that we never got an answer on but find out later another group had reserved it for a bridal shower). So much I could say but not enough time. Nice hotel, just need better customer service.

I have stayed at this property before, mainly for location. I find it amazing that they will not let you change the TV station in the lobby, They tell me it is the owners mandate? They do not recognize you as a Priority member, and you have to ask about an upgrade. Staff seems to be somewhat uppity.
I will stay at the Staybridge down the street on future visits.

The front desk folks were awesome and welcoming. Room was clean and neat and the king size bed was perfect. Detractors from the experience: 1) Breakfast starts at 6:30AM, much to late; and 2) a very slow drain in the tub/shower, gross.

Facilities were good however apparent ceiling damage in the bathroom with a REALLY poor coverup/repair was a glaring miscue. Several areas in the room showed marked use and again, poor repair. These issues downgrade my rating of an overall good stay. A little attention to detail would have made the appearance of the room markedly better.

I loved how the staff catered to us when we needed a taxi or someone to unplug the tub (our fault not theirs) The bed was sooo comfortable and the room temperatures manual were nice as well and not ontop of your head. I felt very much at home and relaxed.

This hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the downtown area of Columbia, so it is a nice location. Proeperty itself is clean and inviting, all of the staff were VERY pleasant and accomodating.

My 2nd visit to property. Great location to Zoo & gervais area...five points if you're a young adult looking for a fun hangout area. Room smelled a lil smoky (this is a non smoking facility) or stale probably from the AC unit. I did notify the front desk of the odor, b/c I wanted to ensure they knew I HAD NOT smoked in the room & later bill me for cleaning charges. Desk attendant was very apologetic & stated she would notate this in my portfolio. Overall very pleased, this is my "go to" property when visiting Columbia!

My boyfriend and I was in Columbia for a Life In Color event, and we knew we needed a place to stay, but didn't want to splurge. Well we stayed in a single king size bedroom, and it exceeded our expectations! The room was spacious, and very nicely decorated. And the bathroom was was stocked with necessities. Everything was very organized and had a relaxed feel to the room. And the breakfast in the morning topped it all off! And the staff helped you if you asked, which I loved because I don't like it when people are checking up on me constantly. If we are in the area again we will definitely stay there again.

The room issued to me was an upgrade which is automatically awarded simply due to Platinum Status. This room is by far sub par for condition in comparison to the other rooms. There is some maintenance taking place in the room but maybe that is why it was sub-par.
Bottom line is this Holiday Inn Express is generally one of the best properties in the US. I've stayed there at least 15 nights over the past few years. I would have rather had just a standard clean room vs an delapitated upgraded room.
This particular hotel is by far the most rigid on maintaining the owners expectations rather then the clients. As most business travelers are aware, plans change from time to time and this hotel requires 24 hour cancelation policy which is not reasonable for business travelers. Would like to see them be more aware of the business traveler constant changing schedules and don't upgrade a person to provide more space, if cleanliness will be sacrificed.

This property leaves a lot to be desired! The walls are thin enough that I heard the person in the room next to mine coughing and hacking all night long
During their "reception" I ask for another beer and was told that there was a limit of two however I did notice several folks having several glasses of wine!! What is the difference?
The morning breakfast hostess was bash and rude. I ask where there was salt and pepper and she told me in a very sarcastic voice "if you will look you will see it on the table" I had not been to a table yet

The shower curtains don't work properly and need replacng..they allow water to get on the floor regularly leading to other problems.

From GM to the person in charge of breakfast the general attitude seems to be defensive and combative.
It was 9:29am. I know I came down at the last minute and expected little breakfast to be left. What I did NOT expect was for it to be completely put away and cleaned up. If breakfast ends at 9:30 whatever is left at 9:29 should still be available until 9:30, right? On another day during a different stay I made sure to get down earlier, around 9:10-9:15. The food was out, though thoroughly picked over, but when I started perusing and gathering my breakfast, the woman in charge warned me that she was "starting to clean up" and that I needed to hurry.
On the night we checked in I bought some snacks with my PERSONAL card. Because of some glitch, according to the hotel, the purchase didn't go through. Much later that night (I vaguely remember this now) they called my room, woke me up, and asked me to come down and run the card again. In a daze I agreed, and then must have promptly fallen back to sleep and forgotten about the whole thing. This was the only notification I ever got. According to the GM they waited a full week until the day we checked out at 2pm (by which time we were long gone) to charge me for it. They took it upon themselves to charge the card I used to pay for the room (COMPANY CARD). I never signed anything and never received a receipt. When I called to resolve the issue the staff including the GM was curt and combative. No apology, no acknowledgement of wrong doing, just a 'what's it gonna take to get you off the phone' sort of attitude.
