Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Stay I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Madison many times over the last year. In that time the front desk has always been staffed by Vincent for at least one of the nights I have been in town. He always recognizes me immediately when I walk in the door. He knows my name and my face and always provides great service in anyway he can. The hotel itself is very nice, especially with the renovations. Beds are very comfortable and I did not hear any excess noise! As always, the breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express is second to none and you cannot beat the location of this hotel when visiting Madison. This is the hotel that I always recommend to anyone when they are coming through this area and no one has been disappointed yet! Keep up the great work! January 11, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Room renovations good, Safety bad Hotel was undergoing renovations, but the upper level was complete. Room was very clean & had all new furnishings, which was very nice. However, the room had a serious safety issue. While sitting on the bed I moved a little and the nightstand light suddenly went out. Upon further inspection I found the plugin for the light had been knocked loose from the bed moving. The boxspring of the bed was pushed up to the wall with the top of the boxspring touching the bottom of the wall outlet, thus with the light plugged in to the wall socket, the mattress on top of the boxspring could not be pushed flush with the wall. So every time the bed moved, it also moved the power plug. When I pushed the plug into the outlet, the outlet sparked. Seeing how it was in very close proximity to the sheets on the bed, it was a serious fire hazard. I did report this to the attendant at the front desk, and even showed her a picture of the hazard. I hope she reported it to her manager, but I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't. The attendant didn't seem to alarmed at what I showed her. I absolutely would not stay at this hotel unless assurances can be given that this problem is fixed. December 23, 2013

I stopped in the hotel during my last trip to Wisconsin, to see if I needed to go online to make reservations for a stay a few days later, but the desk clerk not only remembered me from my last stay a tear earlier, but booked me on the spot whit great rates. It is staff like that insures I will stay only at the Holiday Inn, especially in Madison Wisconsin. The room is always comfortable and the staff is always helpful and friendly. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Pre-Remodel I recently stayed on the 4th floor where the remodel/uplift was going to start. I do not know if it was because of the construction, but there was a strange smell in the hallway. Not so much in the room, but it was enough to lower my experienced. It would have been nice to know that they were going to start ripping the rooms a part in the morning as I was trying to sleep before I was going to head to the airport. Needless to say I did not get my full 8 hours. Only thing I hope they change with the update are the beds. I travel all week and these were the hardest beds I have ever slept on in a hotel. The staff was great and made up for this 4th floor room. November 25, 2013

Offered an excellent map and gave directions. Cookies at the desk! The breakfasts were good and replenished through the end of the appointed time. Staff friendly. He was very generous with his time and answered our many questions about the Madison area. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by must do better This property is just getting too run down and is in need of a clean up and remodel. For as busy as this location is, I can't believe they have the business they do except for the location. Our room had a dehumidifier sitting out and running due to humidity. The window frame was stripped down to bare metal and the wall paper was loose and sagging. The exercise room is extremely small in size and equipment offerings. On the upside, the staff is great, breakfast in good, and your location is great. As a platinum member I have to think twice about staying at this facility again anytime in the near future. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Accommodating staff I stayed at this hotel during marathon weekend, and could not have picked a better place. Quiet at night. Only 2 miles from start and finish line at Capitol square. Tammy was very flexible with a late check out following the race, and made sure they had pre-race food ready for us at 6 am. All of that helped me qualify for boston marathon, so I will be back! November 14, 2013

"Vincent" was the quintessential host. He made us some fresh decaf coffee to enjoy with our fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. He chatted with us and sent us to an excellent restaurant nearby. He was more like our family than your deskman. Congratulations on having such a strong asset on your staff. The other folks were equally friendly and courteous. You have a great hotel in Madison. Also someone was suppose to get back to me regarding my reward number and they did not. We stay at Holiday Inn Express all the time when we travel. This was not my favorite. October 29, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK, but weired shower I had a room on the second floor - bed was comfy, etc. But the shower stall was all wrong ergonomically, with a bench taking up most of one corner and the shower head positioned in such a way that I had to lean over the bench to wash. I'm not a big person at all, and I can't imagine what anyone taller than about 5'10" or weighing over 200 lbs. would be able to do in this shower. Also, noisy people all night in the hallway, although I guess I can't really blame that on the hotel. October 23, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bad day? I think I may have hit this hotel on a bad day. I like to start with the good. The bed was comfortable, the TV nice, and the breakfast is great, especially the warm cinnamon rolls. On the other hand, the parking at this hotel is awful. The spaces are small, there aren't enough of them, and it's tough to even drive through the lot when someone doesn't pull all the way up to the curb, it's that tight. After a couple orbits I finally got lined up for a tight spot in the back and parked. When I got to my room, I could hear noise from inside. Opening the door, I found a large blower running full speed, the kind used to dry carpet after a spill. I assume they had to clean the carpet and forgot to come back for the blower. It was late and I went directly to sleep, got up the next morning, and jumped in the shower. It wasn't until I was getting out of the shower that I noticed there were no towels in the room, I had to use the floor mat and three wash clothes (thank goodness they were there) to dry off. This isn't the cheapest place in Madison and I'd expect better from a HI property. October 21, 2013

The Continental breakfast is better than other places I've stayed for similar prices. It must have been good also, just by judging from the full parking lot–lots of business people. October 19, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst Hotel Experience The linens had a funky smell to them, the shower felt gross- felt a film on the bottom surface of the tub, housekeepers only made the bed and gave me new towels- they didn't clean up the dirt on the floor, was looking forward to relaxing by the pool but that was closed during my entire stay, the city noise and traffic made it hard to relax, the front desk didn't seem too concerned that I didn't like my experience at all, and I highly disliked that a copy of my receipt was slid underneath the door- anyone could have walked past, grabbed it, and took my personal information! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great customer service and great experience overall I was lucky enough to get a room at the Holiday Inn Express after arriving at another hotel that had been booked for me on a business trip and finding things less than desirable. I called the Holiday Inn Express to see if they had vacancies and they were able to get me in. After checking out of the other hotel that I had planned on staying in and checking at the Holiday Inn I was greeted by friendly staff, a clean place to stay and freshly baked cookies that the staff offered me. The accommodations were great and I was very pleased with everything at the hotel. I will book my future business and personal trips through the Holiday Inn. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by TV Channels CNBC was not available which was shocking. I have never been to a hotel where CNBC was not one of the channels. This is the primary financial news channel and I highly recommend that Holiday Inn purchase a different package of available TV channels. Until that is done, although I would like to stay at a Holiday Inn Express again, I will not because of the unavailability of this channel. September 30, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by WHERE IS THE SHUTTLE? Was in town for EPIC User Group meeting. Loved the hotel especially the morning breakfast. If I could change one thing, it would be to include a hotel shuttle service. I will stay at the Sheraton next door next year because they have a shuttle service to town and to the airport. I would also add body lotion to the little freebies they give in the bathroom. I appreciated the shampoo and conditioner. September 23, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Serious Temp Control Issues Temperature outside was in the 60's in the p.m. hallways and elevator felt like it was in the 80's +..Room was very hot, with a temperature that felt like about 79 degrees, air conditioner did not work..even though the temperature outside in the evening was down to the mid 40's the air conditioner was not cooling, it didn't help that you were not able to open a window. So, we had to spend the time and money to get a fan. We told the front desk, they were going to have someone check on it..we never heard the status of whether or not that was done..we asked for no cleaning service but apparently they came in and took the dirty towels without replacing them..It was parents weekend at the University of WI - Madison and the rates were triple from what they were in mid July. There was a greasy had print on the curtain. This building is in need of a major makeover to make it worth spending the $$ September 23, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quiet Room with Great Breakfast My room was directly across from the elevator doors, and it was still nice and quiet. I was a bit worried when I saw the location but was pleasantly surprised. The only noise came from the refrigerator, which I had to unplug to sleep. The bed was a bit on the hard side for my tastes (but I like a soft bed). The pillows were divine - I wanted to take them home. Breakfast was good. Scrambled eggs, sausage, breads and muffins, fruit, milk, juice... good selection and I like that it goes later than most other hotels. Overall a great stay and I'll be back! September 19, 2013

They even catered to the Ironman athletes on Sunday by opening early for breakfast. Good location. Easy access to fitness trails, bike trails and downtown madison. September 15, 2013
