Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by hgcm Possible improvements
1) This hotel does not think about day sleepers. They only clean up rooms in the morning, so if you work at night and sleep during the day, you better be neat.
2) No towels in the fitness center.
3) There's only one laundry machine in the entire hotel and it's always occupied. You either bring a lot of clean clothes with you or think about staying somewhere else if you visit to Pecos will be long.

Unlike other HI Express hotels we have stayed so far, this place is overpriced. A receptionist was far from attentive and even watched a movie or something in the cafe area while on duty.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JustLinda7 Very disappointed in this property
We were very disappointed in this property. The over all property felt and looked dirty. For the extremely high price charged this was a very bad example of H.I. Express. We will think long and hard before making any more reservations.

I am usually a fan of Holiday In Expresses, but I don't think I will be staying at any anymore. The experience in Pecos was really bad. First of all, I called the 800 line to book my room and was told the rate was a very high amount. Wow! It was a lot for a HE. She explained that it was so high because there were only 3 rooms left (this was 3 days before Christmas#. I even asked her whether calling the hotel could possibly get us a better rate and she said no, that it was the specific hotel that dictated the price. We were desperate and it was late, so we booked the room.
When we arrived, the parking lot was empty! I walked in and asked the girl at check-in #not telling her I have a reservation# how much a room was. She told me a rate that was $30 lower than what I was told by the 800 line. I then asked if the hotel was full, she said no, barely anyone there. I told her the rate I was given over the phone and asked her to please give me the rate she quoted me instead. She said that once a reservation was made, it could not be changed. I told her that I believed that it could be changed and I expected it to be. I was misled over the phone.... not only about the rate, but about how busy the hotel was. The least they could do for that, was to give me the rate they would give to any other person off the street. She then proceeded to spend 5 minutes typing #not saying a word to me) and print out the preliminay bill for me to sign. On that , she had given me the lower rate. Didn't say, "I'm so sorry that happened, we would gladly change the rate." Instead, she didn't say a word and acted completely put out. Even when I thanked her for doing that, she didn't say a word.
We have stayed at this hotel before as it is a good stopping point for us with our travels, but won't be staying there anymore. On our way home, we stopped in a different town and stayed at a different place that was half of the cost and had very friendly staff.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by LadyRoadWarrior Fine for a night
Travelling from Phoenix to Dallas area there are only few places to stop for the night. After having stayed in Van Horn a few times and not being impressed decided to try Pecos. Hotel is newer and pretty clean overall. Not far off freeway. Bed was comfortable. Shower was fine. Internet worked with just a few interruptions. Standard HIE with nothing to make it especially good or bad. Many of the other guests work in the nearby oil fields and since it was a Sunday night it was really pretty quiet. Also being Sunday meant there were limited places to eat dinner nearby. Chose the Denny's with low expectations but was still disappointed and I'm not that picky. Food just had no taste. Continental breakfast was quite good and kept restocked. These guys work hard so need to be fueled for the day. A good place to stay if you want a break from driving. Got the feeling it may book up quickly with workers so plan to reserve ahead. The shortage of lodging in the area also can make it a bit more expensive.

Our latest stay was not planned in Pecos, TX. We, unfortunately, were involved in a serious highway auto accident on I-20 in Toyah, TX. After spending approx. nine hours in the ER the hospital was able to find us a room at Holiday Inn Express in Pecos. The staff was absolutely wonderful from the time we arrived until we were able to leave for our home in Tucson, AZ. They made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We normally always try to stay at a Holiday Inn Express when we do travel, but this trip made us truly realize what caring and devoted members they employee, and the comfort provided. They are #1....

Was met and recognized as a Platinum member at the desk. Upgraded to a double queen suite with a smile. Had a wonderful breakfast and made to feel welcome by the hostesses in the breakfast room. Made to feel like we were one of the family.
