Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wished I could have stayed longer We chose this particular hotel because we needed to be in both Portland and Vancouver, WA for family events. Another reason we chose this location is because the price was better than the hotel we stayed in Vancouver last year. I am a light sleeper and my biggest concern was being so close to the airport, and even though we heard a very loud plane land when we first arrived, and I thought "Uh, oh", it turned out to not be an issue at all. In fact, our room was exceptionally quiet with no loud neighbors or doors slamming, and the few planes we heard were hardly noticeable. We arrived very early, and the desk clerk was very accommodating, stored our luggage until early afternoon, and told us she would have a room for us by noon. We came back around 1 p.m. and our room was ready. My one quibble is that we had a King Executive Suite with a large work desk, and we had to hunt for places to plug in our phones, our laptops, and other electronics. There were no plugs we could use on either side of the bed, which is where I like to keep my phone. We ended up having to unplug the hair dryer and the coffee pot and use those outlets. I would suggest investing in the lamps we've had in other hotels which have outlets built into them. The hotel itself seemed a little older, but not run down. The lady taking care of the breakfast bar had a little trouble keeping the hot foods refilled, as the hotel was busy while we were there, plus the first day the scrambled eggs were barely warm, which made me nervous, but the other 2 days the hot food was piping hot. I think they could have used a little more help in the breakfast area, but it was kept clean. Our room was cleaned well both days. We did not use the pool or the exercise room. All in all, we enjoyed our stay, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. August 11, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Experience We stayed at the Portland Airport Holiday Inn Express prior to flying home the following morning. We decided to turn in the rent car that evening. The young lady at the desk, Jenny, was very accommodating in directing us to the nearest gas station and to nearby restaurants. She arranged for the shuttle to pick us up at the car rental. Since our flight was so early, I did not anticipate being able to eat breakfast at the hotel. However, the breakfast was ready by 5:00 a.m. which gave us an opportunity to have one of the great cinnamon rolls. Susan, the person in charge of breakfast, was also the shuttle driver to the airport. She was very friendly and helped us with our luggage. Overall, it was a Great Experience. August 4, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One of my Favorite Holiday Inn's I am suprised this location is not rated higher. Over the years I have probably stayed here 30 times and have never experienced any of the problems stated from other quests. The front desk is one of the most friendilness and attentive staff I have encountered. I am always recognized as a Platinum member and have several times been upgraded, and that is not always the case at other Holiday Inns. My room has always been very clean, comfortable and quiet. The work out area is spotless and I love the sauna. Breakfast area is clean and up to the standards I expect, in fact a good selection of fresh fruit which again, not always found at other locations. If your a runner/jogger they also have a beautiful 3.3 mile dedicated run/bike path along the Columbia River about 1/2 mi from the hotel. June 19, 2013

My only problem was that the cushion on the chair was wet, I talked to the staff and they offered to replace it, but I declined, since is wasn't a significant problem. However, I thought that the housekeeping staff would have replaced it during the normal room cleaning. May 21, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Bring your own febreeze The rooms in this hotel stink...literally they smell BAD! We did not even make it three feet into the first room. Think boys locker room, stinky feet and smoke. The second room we had smelled better but the toilet leaked so had to move a third time after being completely settled in at 9pm. The third room had a muted smell of the first. We left the window wide open and the fan on the entire time. I have never been to a Holiday Inn that did not meet our expectations and considering we were traveling as a family they weren't all that high but this was too much. Although the staff tried to "fix" the issues, we will never stay at that Holiday Inn again. April 22, 2013

Room was comfortable. Left @ 5:30 AM on Sunday and they even had a few breakfast items out for us to grab. Didn't stay long, but appreciated their service! April 14, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Loud neighbor and No relief My recent stay started off well. I had trraveled all day (14 hrs) , and came to the Portland area the night before a big meeting. I wanted to be fresh and relaxed for the meeting the next morning. Book at spa tub room so i coul dunwinfd and get a good night sleep. Then the party started in the next room at 10:30 pm i put up with it until midnight when I called the front desk and the night clerk said"I'll take care of it. I'll tell them that if i get another report they will have to leave". Well 30 mins later they were back at it again. With the sound of "that is some good stuff and lets go get some more" I decided to change rooms. The night attendent seemed shocked that I would aske for another room as he "had warned the guest". The clerk found aother room on the same floor and gave me a 1000 Priority club Bonus points. I asked for the manager to get ahold of me the next morning. And the noisy party guest remained in their room. The next morning I went to my meeting and returned to the hotel to check out. No mesasge from the manager on the hotel voice mail. No written message left in the room. I get little sleep, no response from the manager and a big 1000 points for my trouble. Good customer service would have followed up via an email, voice mail, some type of written or verabl communication. No message was ever left, so please dont play that card. If the customer has an issue you bird-dog it until it is resolved. This is a one unhappy and disappointed Platimum Member. April 13, 2013

I was greated, quickly checked in, and promptly sent to bed...they only thing they didn't do was tuck me in...lol. The next morning the breakfast crew was busy and polite making sure all needs were met for all of us guests. 2 days later when I checked in on my way back north, I had the exact same experience. I appreciate the consistancy and will keep my stays at The Holiday Inn Express. Thank You! April 9, 2013

We have stayed at this property three times so far in the two room suite and two out of three times the people above us have made so much noise we could not sleep and it was after midnight the first time and 11:30PM last time requiring me to call the front desk. Although I have requested not to be put on the first floor the last two times my requests have never been honored even when the reservation was made in advance and the hotel never tells us they have no intention of honoring the request until we get there. As a result we will no longer stay at this hotel. It seems to me if you have just two senior citizens like us that want to be on a higher floor and people with children it would be wise to put the people with children on the first floor and then the children can jump on the bed to their hearts content. I have been very happy with the experience, including the staff, the rooms, the breakfasts, and the convenience of being all inside (not separated buildings) in this frequently rainy city. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it as an excellent value. Do not get confused and make reservations at the nearby Holiday Inn at 82nd and Columbia. If you are sensitive to airplane take-off noise do not stay at this or any hotel near any airport. February 7, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Great Hotel perfect location The Holiday Inn Express Portland was a beautiful hotel. The staff was helpful with directions, maps, etc. The rooms were clean and updated. The bathrooms were clean as well. The hot breakfast that they serve in the morning had a large variety of food. There was something there for everyone. I particularly liked the hot chocolate chip cookies at night. That was a treat. This hotel was a great deal for the price, especially with the breakfast. I will definitely be coming back. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff but property needs renovation We stayed three nights here and would recommend only for the value and location near Portland airport. The property is worn and needs renovation, our shower curtain rod was hanging by a thread, the carpets and wall paper is outdated. The breakfast is convenient but not special, all items are premade and warmed up, but they do offer a selection of hot and cold items. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were cleaned nicely every day. If you are looking for an inexpensive, forgettable place, this is it. There are a lot of other hotels nearby so check everything first. There are not a lot of food choices within walking distance for dinner or for picking up a bottle of wine or some snacks. The property is on a busy street and on the departure end of the runway so you will hear that 6 am flight every morning! November 4, 2012
