We have been staying at this Holiday Inn at least once a year for business since 1998. When we visited Rapid City for vacation we also chose this hotet.
My wife has conferences and visits students up the road at Rapid City Regional hospital, which makes this the ideal location. Add to that the fact that they USED TO GIVE GOVT RATES in the summer when she visited and it was the reason we stayed here and eventually became Priority Club members from a brochure in their lobby. The school she teaches for appreciates the lower rates too.
3 Years ago that all changed - they no longer give us the government/teacher rate ( I am retired military and she is a state employee) like Watertown and Pierre, but charge us the summer "tourist" rate. We usually extend our stay while in the Black Hills and stretch it into a long weekend. Last year we arrived the Sunday before Memorial Day and checked out Tuesday after her meeting, paying the full rate each night.
No more - this year we stayed one night then moved to a nearby rival that honored her credentials for less than half what we paid a night, and stayed the remaining nights with them.
Next year we won't even stay at the Holiday Inn Express. The rival is just across the highway next to a popular restaurant and my wife still has a direct route to the hospital and we save over 50% a night making anything over 1 night free at the rates Holiday Inn charges us.
The staff has become barely courteous, yet still helpful. My wife requires receipts for her voucher yet the lady at the desk was reluctant to print us one because the school had paid for the first night and we were leaving early.
We DID get late checkout as per priority club guidelines and 2 (warm) bottles of water at check in. The breakfast was excellent as usual.
As I said we have been coming here a long time - and even stayed here for vacations on and off season because of the goverment rates.
We will miss you Holiday Inn in Rapid City on Cathedral Drive.

Average hotel. Could use a good cleaning in the whole hotel. Rooms are average and could use a REAL GOOD Cleaning.

Check in was good, our room looked good except the sheets on the pull out couch were disgusting, had front desk bring new sheets, also had black bugs in the bathroom. The bed was not comfortable at all. The outside noise from cars was terrible. Even with earplugs!!!! And kids running down the halls. Left message for manager to call me, never heard from them. But if you stay in Deadwood the holiday inn express is both clean and quiet, and the beds are wonderful.

I travel a lot and Holiday still gives me peace of mind that I am staying in a very clean room and furnishings and maintenance that are no longer found in most chain owned lodging properties.

From walking in the front door till check out time, everything was a rewarding experience. They recognized me as a Platinum member, had a housekeeping request done, and did an upgrade without asking to a Jacuzzi suite. I would and will stay there again and could recommend this hotel to anyone. The staff were always friendly and with a pleasant smile. The only negative, and a small one, was the internet seemed to be very slow, but because of all the other positives I can still rate this hotel as one of the best Holiday Inn's I have visited.

I stay in Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels all over the USA but have never stayed in one like this that didn't have either an exercise facility or free access to a club like Gold's Gym. They did have a pool and a hot tub but no exercise room.
Also; did not clean our room one day even though we did not post a "Do not disturb" sign on the door--they just missed it.
Business center counter was chest high and was for standing only; the second night they did include one tall bar stool.
We were not offered freshly baked cookies each night.
The hotel staff was very polite, helpful and professional.

We certainly enjoyed staying at the Rapid City Cathedral Drive HIE! Check in was super and everyone in the hotel were very personable and nice to us.

Convenient location to Black Hill's attractions but that is where it stops. Mattresses were uncomfortable, staff is NOT trained in customer service and breakfast was the worst. They were out of hard boiled eggs for four days, how hard is it to go to the local grocery store and buy some eggs. Seating in breakfast area was disgusting and was afraid to sit on due to all the stains. The location is also questionable shares same lot with gas station and gives it an undesirable feel.

After a long day of travel we hoped for a restful night's sleep. However the mattresses were terrible-the sides were collapsed from people sitting on the edge & the rest of the mattress was just very uncomfortable. Also the doors to the rooms had the big gaps underneath so all the noise from the hallways was heard in our room. This hotel needs updating, not just a couple rooms at a time. Couldn't comment on free breakfast because at 6:20 a.m. there wasn't even a cup of coffee available, nor a piece of fruit to grab on the way out. We wouldn't stay here again.

I recently stayed here and was floored by the quality of service I received. The most striking part was the friendly and amazing customer service I received from Joi. She was quick, accurate and amazing at recommending places to eat. She made my stay perfect by helping me avoid boredom (I didn't want to be in rapid city) Please make sure she gets recognized for how good she is at her job, you guys are lucky to have someone of her calibur working for you!

We continue to like HI express breakfast for the variety and quality of product. We would have preferred to have a heating/airconditioning unit where the fan shut off once it had reached the set temperature instead of running continuously, and only one of the people knew how to access the internet on the computer. Otherwise it was easy for us to feel comfortable during our five day stay. A fitness center would have been appreciated.

Everything was great as expected from Holiday Inn Express. The only thing I would say is that if you have sensitivity to light to ask for a room on the backside, away from the spotlights pointing up at the sign (and into the windows). The curtains mostly hid it, but some light did get through. Not a big deal, I would definitely stay again!

This property needs some upgrading to bring it up to Holiday Inn Express standards - old carpets, dated fixtures. It's usually priced lower than other Holiday Inn properties in the area, so I'll likely stay here again. But it needs some TLC.

Our recent stay at the Holiday Inn Rapid City was marred by small problems that should have been fixed quickly by management. The was a very limited selection of items for breakfast that the staff blamed on a down circuit breaker and a lack of help in the breakfast area even though management knew that a big event was in town for the weekend. Lucky that there was a mcdonalds and a bagel place close by. (no coffee or hot water available). Not what I have come to expect from a holiday inn express having been a priority club member for over twenty years.

We enjoyed our stay in Rapid City and will look to stay here again if we are ever in Rapid City again. Lots of nice restaurants close by and right on way to Mt. Rushmore. Since it was January, we didn't get to enjoy all the ammenities provided, but were comfortable non the less.

During my recent stay, I found no resource material in the rooms such as local restaurant listings or local churches and their services. I asked the front desk associates and they said that they did not have any listings for either restaurants or churches either. I was able to locate both a restaurant and a local church via the internet myself, but i found it strange that the front desk had no reference material to help out a customer.
