Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Stay away from this place!!! I mean it! One of the all time worst hotel experiences we have ever had. We reserved our room three weeks in advance, online with IHG, and when we got there they had given away the king size suite we had reserved. They tried to say it was overbooked but we found out it had been given to someone who had supposedly booked it after we did on one of the online cheap hotel sites. The excuse was flimsy and their behavior seemed like they were lying to us. They actually gave us the key to the room, we got all of our baggage together and went into the room. Surprise! Someone was already in the room. We then went to the desk and there was a rude employee who told us that the room had been booked by someone else and wasn't that just too bad. I asked why, since they had our email and telephone number, no one had bothered to let us know. Since Salida was basically booked up for the night, except for this horrible Holiday Inn, we couldn't find another room somewhere else. The front desk showed us about ten other rooms. They all reeked of cigarette smoke and were shabby beyond belief--with dirty horrible carpeting. The whole place reeks of cigarette smoke even though the rooms have signs saying no smoking. We finally found a room on the top floor that didn't reek of smoke. Bad, bad experience. Don't stay here. You'll be sorry. We sure were. August 3, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Mountain Mess We knew something was wrong when no one was at the desk to check us and another couple in the middle of the afternoon. Staff member was cleaning rooms and not very good at that. Rooms are surface cleaned and ours had pieces of donut, pizza, and fruit rind on wall and floor next to bed. Carpet in general smelled bad and bathtub area had accumulated dirt pockets. Breakfast was a mess with too many guests and lack of supplies and food. Grounds in back are a storage dump. July 31, 2014

The rooms are comfortable and have a microwave and refrigerator that comes in handy. But the breakfast area is terrible--way to small for the size of the hotel. And it isn't attended to like it should be. I know that sometimes things break down and the hot tub was one of these times. July 29, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Yuck...Yuck...Yuck While traveling thru Colorado we stayed in Holiday Inn Express our whole trip...We love the well dressed, very nice & always helpful we were totally disappointed in this Hotel...The employees were not hospitable ...they really did not know what they were doing...The hotel decor is old & smelly...The breakfast had no regular coffee available & the pancake machine was empty ...The employee informed us he had tried to fix it but couldn't ...We explained to him that the bag that holds the pancake mix was empty but he just looked at us like we had two heads...Needless to say no one had pancakes for breakfast...The most disgusting was the kitchen area that was beyond disgusting...My suggestion is a visit from Upper Managment to see what's taken place in this Hotel...Our room was the highest price of all the 4 Holiday Inn Express Inns we stayed in on our Colorado trip...Do yourself a favor and DON'T STAY HERE!!!!! Haven't stayed at this property for about a year as as I have been staying down the street at a competing property. What a difference a year makes!! The property is spiraling into a poorly maintained facility with scrimping on amenities such as not providing plastic laundry bags for guest. Not providing ice (ice machine is broke) and staff falsely blaming "no ice" on their own customers taking the ice for their coolers. THE MACHINE DOESN'T EVEN RUN! The breakfast- always a standard of the Holiday Inn properties was disappointing as the pancake machine was broken, no fruit was provided, juices were served out of the grocery store container and not kept at a cooled temperature. It is very sad to watch this property fail as I have stayed here for many decades.. July 6, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor customer service in a very dirty place. This is the first time in over 30 years I have been disappointed in a Holiday Inn Express. When we arrived, at first they could not find the reservation. Then the lady gave us the room keys and told us how to get to the room thru the lobby and the elevator. We had to walk almost the entire length of the building. She never told us we could park at the end of the parking lot and use the end entrance and only have to walk 30 feet to get to the room. When we got to the room we found that it had 2 queen beds. Our reservation was for a King room, non-smoking. When I returned to the front desk, she told me they did not have any King rooms available. I showed her the reservation I received, but she basically ignored it and repeated there were no King rooms available. When I asked her why they did not call me she said they did not have any contact information. The room was very dirty, cobwebs on the floor lamp, carpet was dirty, dirty q-tip under the desk, stains on the sheets, dust bunnies on the tile. It was very disappointing. I would never stay at that hotel again. July 3, 2014

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed Holiday Inn Express is my first choice when traveling. However, the Salida Holiday Inn Express sadly disappoints. When we entered our non-smoking room, there was a heavy scent of cloying room deodorizer spray. We opened the window to air the room out. We were very tired so went straight to bed -- however, I awoke in the middle of the night, smelling cigarette smoke from my pillow. I suspect that the previous occupant smoked in the room and the cleaning crew merely sprayed the room down with deodorizer and did not change out the blankets and pillows which had absorbed the cigarette odor. The rooms are quite noisy. We could hear the footsteps of the occupant in the room above ours quite clearly. So bring ear plugs if you want to sleep! June 25, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Its a place to sleep I come to Salida once a year for work. Basically, I stay at this hotel for the loyalty points. There is nothing gross or terrible about this hotel. I just find the beds at this particular location to be really uncomfortable and the front desk staff seemed to be just there for the paycheck. Little more was exchanged beyond, "Sign here," and "Here is your room key." In the end, I will stay here again, but its not an experience really look forward to. June 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great home base for an Arkansas River Valley Getaway We went to Salida for Fibark and to enjoy the Great Sand Dunes and the Mt. Prinction/Chalk Valley. The hotel has a good free breakfast buffet - eggs, biscuits, pancakes, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee. My little enjoyed the indoor pool and all the rooms have been updated. It was a perfect spot for my family of 3 and a good value. The front desk staff was very helpful and helped us get the free shuttle to town for the Fibark festival. We would stay here again. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by This is a Holiday Inn Express? We checked in around 8pm after a long day of hiking and the pregnant girl at the front desk smelled of alcohol and cigarettes. She did not recognize us as platinum members and did not offer us a welcoming gift. She did not tell us where to park or how to get to our room. I can understand she didn't want to speak much as her piercings forced her to mumble. Our room was average, but had a pile of dirty linens lying on the desk area. We only had 3 towels in our bathroom which was a problem the next morning when we both wanted to shower again. Not that it was much of a shower, the water more or less fell out out of the shower head. Basically zero water pressure. The Ice machine made a lot of noise but did not make ice and it was the only ice machine in the entire building. Breakfast was fine but with only a handful of tables and a nearly full hotel you can imagine the issue. During the breakfast we ate while standing, a very nice woman was cleaning and keeping the food stocked. Only problem being she would yell out to the back room whenever a customer was at the front desk. The same pregnant girl from the night before would take the person's room key and say thanks. That's it, no offer of a receipt, no asking how their stay was etc. Then she would go back around the corner without ever looking up from her cell phone. I do not see how this hotel is a Holiday Inn Express. I could believe this was a regular Holiday Inn but I have never been so disappointed in an Express. I will be staying somewhere else next time I visit beautiful Salida, CO. June 14, 2014

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wedding week-end The hotel was easy to find and plenty of parking. Check-in was easy. There was a mix up and our son and daughter-in-law (who checked in before us) was given our assigned room. Fortunately, we had requested a room with two beds, as they had done. The staff was very pleasant, the pool was very clean and the water temperature was perfect. There were ample towels in the pool area and it was very organized. The breakfast staff was very efficient in keeping tables and chairs very clean and organized. Our overall stay was great except for the beds that were not real comfortable. June 5, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Decent room, but was not clean The room was not what I thought I would get as a platinum member even if it was a free night with points. I had to have the room next to the elevator. The window sill was filthy with I have no idea what it was. It was warm out but the A/C did not seem to work, it would stay on for 5 mins, then shut off, even if the thermostat was at 60 degrees. I was told, you have to turn it to Heat first, then hit the A/C button, whoever heard of making it cool in your room by needing to do that. I would hate to see that room in the summer. The staff were nice and the breakfast was good. March 27, 2014

We stayed 5 days and had a nice room with a fairly friendly staff. We would recommend it and stay again. Price was reasonable and breakfast was awesome all but the fact it ends at 9:30a & at 9am they were stopping serving a few items. My children were upset about that but we managed. March 23, 2014

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Don't plan on taking a shower in the PM We stayed 2 nights and on both there was no hot water to shower with in the early evening. The rooms were noisy. The bathtub was scummy. The rest of the room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The window locks were broken, so didn't feel comfortable leaving anything of value in the room when we went out. We went to Salida, last minute over a holiday weekend, and this was the only place that had a room. Next time we visit I will look for someplace else to stay. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Needs updated and better housekeeping standards I am a loyal IHG customer and stay at many properties for business and leisure, I have never given a review and don't like to read them as so many people nit pick. But I need to say that this property continues to decline from the cleanliness of the rooms to the staff and the overall working order of the hotel. I think IHG needs to take a good look at this property and ensure the owners give it the updates that are needed that are way overdue and ensure the housekeeping staff gets rooms cleaned to IHG standards. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by its a nice facility with a few problems the room is standard, clean. theres a pool and a good breakfast, not just sweet cereals, Danish and oj that is really tang-coolaide. they had a problem with the phone(didn't work#, WFI#no better reception then my cell offers#, heat and cold surges#room cold, then later to hot#. I hand gave the front desk person my reservations for the next 6 wks#I stay there often with my business) and each was incorrect. theres def improvement here. still not a bad place and people are friendly. It's conveniently located, a short walk away from at least one good restaurant if you want to stretch your legs. TV reception is excellent, although we didn't watch much. The heat lamp in the bathroom would be great to come home to during cold winter weather. All in all, this is a solid value and we will stay here again. November 20, 2013

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pool was great Myself and a friend came up for the night just to relax and get away. Was very pleased we were able to use the pool after coming back for the night. Have stayed in other places there and the pool was so cold you could'nt stay in for more than a couple minutes. But the temp was perfect and really enjoyed it. Thought the price was a little high, but it was the weekend. October 3, 2013
