Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Enjoyed our stay First time to this hotel, close to Seattle Centre & downtown area and if you are game for walking its about a half hour walk to Pikes Place. Great service at the hotel, had an issue with a light and advised the staff of the problem and it was repaired immediately. Comfortable room with a great view of the Space Needle and also had a couch, small fridge and micro. Impressed with the free breakfast, as usually we expect a continental style but this was a hot meal with a choice of different eggs and meat daily as well as lots of additional choices if you didnt want those items. The only 2 drawbacks we found was the driveway entrance tends to get clogged up with vehicles and makes it difficult to enter. Better to access the underground parking from the alleyway than try to drive thru from the main entrance. Also its not in an area that I would want to walk around in at night. There is a gas station with a store about a block and a half away, but we noticed some groups of people hanging around close to it after dark, so we stayed away. There isnt alot of restaurants in the immediate walking area other than the one in the Holiday Inn next door, so if you are going out at night you might want to drive. That being said, we enjoyed our meal at the Emerald Grill and found it reasonably priced for what you ordered. I would stay there again, but would ask for a room not facing Aurora Ave as its very busy street and I found you have to keep the a/c fan on to block the noise. August 24, 2013

It would be nice to have the ability to overnight park and a shuttle down to the piers. Other than that, everything was fine. Several rooms received morning paper but we were omitted. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Dissapointed We had book a room specifically because it had a view of the Space Needle but discovered we had been "upgraded" to a room with a larger bed but no view. It would have been courteous if we had been asked if we wanted the room change. The staff offered to move us but we were already settled in and had to go to a wedding. There was wall paper starting to peel away from the bedroom wall in two places and mildew around the bathtub faucet. Always enjoyed staying at Holiday Inn Express and would recommend this property but with some reservation. August 22, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Capt. George Reserved a no smoking room 1 month in advance. Called to confirm a few days before arrival and when I arrived was told none were available. Room stunk and had to wash all my clothes when I got home. Why in this day and age a hotel still allows smoking is beyond me. $10 to park a car when plenty of street parking was available is a little greedy. This was a $120 a day room at best, I guess what the traffic will pay is in effect here. August 16, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good value for money Firstly the main problem was the location, it isn't that close to Downtown as stated. In our group were young children and this was a problem. Having said that, the hotel has very cooperative and pleasant staff, the elevators were a bit frustrating. Breakfast was ok, not great but as it wasn't charged as an extra I wouldn't complain. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great hotel in a busy season Some hotels get sloppy when they get busy & this happened this time. I always treat this Seattle site as a "home" and the staff tries hard to cope while being friendly under such crowded conditions and rooms assigned disappearing in a cascade of room assignment problems. I felt sorry for their predicament and didn't get the favorite room I was promised. The alternate, while nice, served well but felt small. Manager Darcy is one of my favorite people and this month's crowdedness must have been as much of a strain for her as well. It isn't fun for guests to see the staff under such stresses. For the first time, I had 3 days when the room wasn't prepared -- despite telling the maids and front desk. Naturally, when I reported the unprepared rooms, someone rushed to get fresh towels in but that's not what is usual there and it can spoil others less willing to be kind about this. Overall, this is my favored Seattle hotel and I get treated very well by all. I think of many of the staff as long-time friends and enjoy chatting with them. I'm certain that the place will be back to normal in less busy months and ensuring guest's stays as pleasant. Perhaps the pressure in August is complicated by systems failures -- computer links and wifi, garage doors not working too often? Perhaps more staff is needed at these busy times? I'm absolutely certain that Darcy will find ways to bring the place up to normal -- her dedication to guests and their needs is greater than I've seen in most places I've stayed. She creates purpose and kindness to all and her staff learns this well. Normally, I'd rate this as a 5 star property with great staff but this was the exception -- and they all did try so hard to get things straightened out for me. August 13, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good location/talkative housekeepers The location is good. The housekeepers did a fine job but they wanted to chat with one another each morning while in the hallway. The problem is that they were spaced many rooms apart, so in order to hear one another, they had to speak very loudly. This woke us up two of the mornings that we were on our four-day vacation. The breakfast selection was very good. The coffee was outstanding. Overall, this was a pleasant experience. M.H. August 5, 2013
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointed The staff were helpful and professional for the 2 nights I stayed there. However, I was very disappointed in the room which was supposed to be a non-smoking room. I called to get a different room because it was definitely NOT a non-smoking room, although the maintenance staff insisted what I was smelling was not cigarette smoke. No other room was available. A filter device was used to help get rid of the odor, but did not remove the smell completely and my clothes smelled of cigarette smoke. As a non-smoker I find this odor very offensive. The staff were helpful and pleasant in other areas, but this was a major disappointment. There's a 50/50 chance that I would recommend this hotel to others. August 4, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by If I could give you less than 1 star I would 1. Arrived to a room that smelled so bad due to smoke 2. Had a pull out sofa bed with a huge stain on the mattress 3. No linens on the sofa bed and I called to let them know that my granddaughters had nowhere to sleep.....they wanted me to make the bed myself. I told them for over $200 a night they could make it for me since they knew we were expecting to use it. The lady said she would be right up. Pretty soon here comes this guy who threw a sheet on the bed with 1 blanket and no pillows. What a disaster.... 4. We were on the 4th floor and there was so much traffice noise that we could not sleep 5. Breakfast was ok nothing to write home about...when it's free you get what you pay for! 6. Thank goodness the concert was awesome or it would have been a total waste of money & time August 3, 2013

It was also in walking distance to the Space Needle and the museums around the Needle and a few restaurants. We took a cab to the Fish Market area but then walked to various shops & restaurants. We had a king suite. There were 3 of us. Two slept in the comfortable, king bed. I slept on the sofa bed. Not so comfortable, but then they ususally never are. We shared the room to keep the cost of the trip down. Breakfast was decent. Eggs, sausage, pancakes, fruit, hot & cold cereal, yogurt, rolls & muffins, juice, coffee, tea, milk. I had reserved a room with 2 queens and got a room with a king, Also, I had reserved non-smoking and got a smoking. Not good. It is time to move up the hotel food chain.... August 2, 2013

We got in late and were up/out early, but there were 4 women sharing a room...we slept well, able to accommodate the need for a cool temperature in the room for us, nice to have a refrigerator we could be our drinks and the few perishables we were travelling with. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by An Average Hotel We stayed here for a week, during the perfect time of year for Seattle. The hotel is located close to the Space Needle and we were lucky to have a view of it from our room window. The room was average otherwise. Clean and comfortable but nothing special. The downside of the perfect view we had was that the room was also next to the service elevator and far from everything else. Some problems at the hotel during our stay made it less than stellar. One of the main elevators was broken the entire stay (there are only 2 main elevators) so the fully booked hotel was a nightmare to go up and down. We had to wait so much I finally started to use the stairs. The parking here is also limited, so parking was a pain even though we paid for it. Don't even bother bringing in a full size vehicle as all of the spots are marked for compact cars and our Ford Edge was a tight fit. We were able to park in the adjacent hotel's parking lot with the help of the manager, but it was not convenient. The staff here was pretty good, and we had mostly good experiences. It seems hit or miss though, because I overheard a night manager giving someone what I considered bad service and we had good experience during the day. The exception was my request for a late checkout and someone giving me approval the night before we left, only to have someone else the next morning saying they couldn't do it and saying the person who told me shouldn't have said that. Good customer service would have granted my request based on their error, considering it was only a one hour difference. All in all, we enjoyed the stay more because of the weather and sights in Seattle and not because of our hotel room. It was just an average room with a nice view and bad location in the hotel. It was explained to us that the other elevator needed to be replaced and that we were lucky because the week before they had no elevators. Other than the mild inconvience, we never saw any sign of the broken one being replaced. July 28, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Older Hotel This hotel seems to be an older hotel in need of major remodeling. One of the only two elevators was out of service the entire three days of our stay creating extended wait times. I was awakened at 3:06 AM by a "courtesy wake up call" that I did not request. Parking is at a premium and the staff allowed parking in handicapped spaces without having to show a handicap permit as a convenience to late arriving guests . The rooms are small with older furniture. Overall, this stay was a very disappointing experience considering the cost. July 27, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good value for Seattle My wife and I stayed for 2 nights. Room was clean and what you expect from a Holiday Inn Express. It is attached to an Older Holiday Inn so it has restaurant service in the evenings which we considered a plus. Location is comfortable walking distance to the Space Needle, and its Monorail which connects with the cities excellent public transportation system. If you don't have too much luggage you can use the public system to the go to the airport which is a 30 minute cab ride and costs accordingly. Good value. July 26, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Felt cramped Room was small. Reminded me of NYC rooms. One elevator didn't work and staff could not provide an estimated time of repair. Although we could use the service elevator, we often had long waits and cramped in one remailing elevator. The staff seemed to imply that because it was a major repair, the elevator may not be repaired. Building appeared old, so maybe corporate is waiting to upgrade other infrastructure or replace building? Dining room was too small for suimmer tourist seasons. Often had to wait to find a seat to eat [the very good] breakfasts. Parking outside and underneath was cramped though we always found a space to park underneath where we had paid to park. Cost was high for these kind of accomodations. July 25, 2013

The girl in the brakfast area was not helpful. The coffee pots were empty, and I told her and she said. It will be awhile before I refill. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great staff, pricier than the value Greeted warmly upon arrival, and quickly got checked in. Great front desk staff (I believe it was Matt?). We didn't spend much time in the room since we were in town to visit family, and it was comfortable, although I wouldn't want to spend many hours in there - a little small compared to other Holiday Inn Express's we've stayed in. The toilet was not functioning when we arrived and the maintenance man showed up almost immediately after our call. Great service, and got it working. Breakfast was a little crazy busy with lots of people zipping in and out, but good food as usual. All in all, glad we stayed there, but the price was much higher than normal HIEs. I guess that's due to location. Would stay there again though if ever in Seattle again. July 21, 2013
