Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Disappointing Stay Last week I stayed at this hotel and the quality of this hotel is disgusting. I checked in and went up to my room and upon entering(221) I found it smelled like urine. I returned to the desk and requested a new room. After explaining the situation the girl at the front desk explained that sometimes the air conditioning units leak and can make the room smell. How long does it have to sit in the carpet to make it strong enough to make my eyes water. The next room had a slight odor but I decided to put up with it. After the first night the wifi quit working. I asked several days in a row if there was a plan in place to get it working again and the person at the front desk said they didn't know. I explained I needed the Internet for work and if it wasn't fixed soon we would have to leave. Next the elevator was out of service for days. I normally take the stairs anyways but it concerned me because it was locked out due to a problem with the fire alarm system. This was evident standing at the front desk and every light in the panel blinking. Next the TV lost reception and still without the internet it made for a quiet night. After 7 nights we checked out and traded a 30 minute drive to the plant for a 55 minute drive to get the quality everyone expects from a Holiday Inn. We have work coming up in that area again and we will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Durham. Brand Loyalty goes a long way and this hotel needs to realize we also expect a certain quality with it. Spire Member October 7, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Time To knock this Hotel over!! My stay started off by noticing all the water damage, on every ceiling. Nothing was maintained to an IHG level. The elevators was down all week. The worst part about my stay was when the ceiling in my room started to leek, HEAVILY! the result was lots of water and drywall mud all over my Computer. The Ceiling had already been patched in the past and my guess was that a monkey with a bucket of mud did the work!! Overall Worst IHG stay in years October 4, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not many options and this isn't a good one. This hotel needs some serious renovation and staff training. The hotel is shabby feeling and old and should have a total interior remodeling. Also, the staff is low quality with little professional training in customer service. The price point is set for that of a more urban hotel with a courteous staff. My door was falling apart, the ice machine was not working, I was put in a non-smoking room, supposedly, that stunk of stale cigarette smoke and we had a three hour power outage that we were not made aware of earlier with no preparations or bill adjustment. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Friendly My dad who is going on 97 as he would say was very pleased with the friendly and caring manner of all staff towards. Unfortunately this is the only photo that demonstrates that. However, everyone there that we had contact with was always pleasant and insured that we had everything needed. This included staff and managers.... Thanks, we will surely stay there again. September 16, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by mom of 3 There were some nice updated touches in the guest rooms, but not enough to out weigh the dirty and smelly rooms and hallways. The shower head was wonderful, but the dirty and cracked tub took away from the pleasure it brought. The beds were comfortable and nice, but the smell in the room made it feel dirty. The breakfast was more than adequate, but the trash was over flowing and wasn't tidy. The staff at the front desk were efficient, but not very pleasant. Every positive item had a negative that made it an unpleasant experience overall. September 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Holiday Inn Express South Boston, VA I stayed 1 1/2 days at the Holiday Inn Express in South Boston, VA. I have not experienced this type of peace and relaxation for a very long time as well as such excellent customer service. My room was lovely, though I may have detected a little mold in the bathroom area possibly from the air-conditioning which I totally neglected to report. The bedding, furniture and temperature control was great. All in all, it was a quality stay with those little much welcomed extras such as breakfast for guests, a refrigerator and microwave; rarely included without additional costs at more expensive hotels. The professionalism, courteousness and response to guest needs presented by the staff was nothing less than top notch! the only thing I would ask is that the hotel offers better quality and more variety for breakfast as well as full service meals and room service throughout the day and evening. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bathroom was pretty bad Elevator fan was set to off, making it needlessly hot inside. Bathroom was poorly set up and even worse in its maintenance. Toilet height looked appropriate only for kindergarten kids, not adults. Sink faucet tended to splash you. Toilet ran constantly because the mechanism needed to be replaced. Caulking in the tub surround was in appalling condition. Trouble using door keys, lock seemed to need servicing too. Door did not shut from the inside unless you pulled on it hard. Mattress was too soft. Charged more for second and third night, but not advised of this at check-in. Will not stay here again. Very poor value for the price. August 23, 2015
