Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Family Reunion Our Family checked in on Friday July 19, 2013. As per agreement ballroom was to be available for welcome event. Ballroom was dirty and event delayed in order for staff to clean. Our suite had a dirty, rusted dishwasher, without forks, dishes nor soap liquid for dishes or liquid for dishwasher. In the dining area, equipment for pancakes was broken, coffee containers were empty after early guest, no refills. No bedding was provided for sofa bed, First night elevator broke. the hotel was hosting 3 reunions with only one elevator and that stopped working. My aunt 95 years old was located on the 3rd floor. This kind of service is not acceptable, several reunion guest had tubs that would not drain, Jacuzzi tubs that were broken. Callers asking for guest were told they were not registered due to poor check-in services of front desk. This was not the representation we wanted for our guest visiting from throughout the U.S. Our experience as a family was negative and embarrassing for us and the city of Southfield. July 26, 2013

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by My stay The entrance lobby was dirty. The elevator was dirty. Although the rooms are spacious, the fan motors that are used to heat and cool are so noisy they keep you up. I change rooms thinking it was just that room and the same thing. The second room I had the furniture was very dirty. In both rooms the work desk was too small for a laptop and work files. Additionally this hotel has some nice finishes but the lighting is horrible!! Rooms and hallways especially. Some maintenance man is buying 5000K lamps that are very uncomfortable and wash out all the warm finishes used in this property. This hotel is not business traveler friendly. I will be in this area again soon and will not stay here. June 24, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Second Stay at Southfield Overall I was impressed with the courtesy and friendliness of the staff that I encountered on my stays. As an example: The morning kithchen staff was welcoming the clients as they entered the dining area for breakfast. The hotel is very convienent for access to the highway and 20 minutes to downtown Detroit. I stayed 6 nights on two occasions. The rooms that I stayed in were clean when I arrived and the staff kept them clean durning my stay. I will be going back for business and have already scheduled my next stay at this location May 31, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Very comforable bed and quiet I had to switch rooms initially because I was put right by all the laundry and cleaning rooms and it was very noisy. Also, the floor was all wet by the refrigerator and I don't think it was working. We were moved on the other side of the building and it was very nice and quiet. The only problem with the new room is the bedroom TV didn't work, but I told the front desk as we went out for dinner and it was fixed by the time we returned. The stay was wonderful, I slept all night very soundly after using the pool and hot tub which was very nice. In the morning I used the exercise room and all equipment worked well, except the TV didn't get the cable channels in. May 17, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Awful experience This was the most awful Holiday Inn Express experience I have ever had. I have stayed at many locations over the last 5 years. First off, the initial room I checked into smelled like marijuana. They did change rooms for me, but it shouldn't have been like this in the first place. Second, there was used soap and a curly hair in my shower. They clearly don't clean their showers or just have very lazy employees. I later learned that this is a reflection of their management. Third, there was 3 or 4 occasions where I requested further explanations on something and was told that the manager was going to get back to me and didn't. I requested again and was told he was going to get back to me. the only bright side was the points accommodation. This will be the last time I stay at this location. Unfortunately, the location was most convenient for where my customers are located. This location can use a change in all managers. ALL HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS LOCATION COULD USE A CHANGE IN THE BREAKFAST OPTIONS. May 3, 2013

Was able to relax and study in the evening, room service was flawless, and the breakfaast, as usual, excellent. Return to Southfield would result in immediate booking odf this hotel again. Well done! Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Got Kicked Out After Being Confirmed For Second Night Upon checking in, I asked to extend my stay to 2 nights. Receptionist said no problem, appeared to enter something into the computer, and all was in order. At 8 PM on the second night of my stay, I came back from dinner and key didn't work. I went to the front desk and was told, "We are oversold so you're out of luck. Here's your stuff." They then wheeled my belongings to me from behind the counter. 1. No effort was made to alert me to this problem prior to my discovering it at 8 PM on the second night. 2. No effort was made to find me other accommodations in the area. 3. I contacted the national Holiday Inn folks the next day. They stated that I'd be hearing from the local management "within 48 hours." I am still waiting to hear from them 96 hours later. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient location to freeway, but...... We stayed here while visiting colleges with our daughter. The room (212) was clean and neat, and the beds were comfortable. However, when we checked in, the hottub by the pool was broken, the remote needed new batteries, the bathtub did not drain, and the TV listings were not correct. After the first night, I asked the front desk about taking care of these issues. When we returned, the remote was fixed and the bathtub drained, but still no accurate TV channels and no hottub. The hottub was finally fixed on Saturday, but it still had the "out of order" sign hanging there! The day we checked out, the elevator was broken, so it would have been nice if the staff had offered to help us get everything downstairs. This hotel is older and well-cared for, but the owners need to start making small improvements to keep guests coming back. Little things do matter. P.S. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Worst HI Express I've Stayed In I normally stay in Holiday Inn Express where ever I go, this is the second time I have stayed at this hotel and my last stay there was the final straw. Upon check in, I was met with a clerk with an attitude. I was given a room that really had a bad odor and wasn't the type I reserved. When I went back to get another room, the clerk really was quite rude, not accomodating at all and acted as if she was doing me a favor. I wasn't even recognized as a Priority Club Member and when I asked for my water and chips or cookie, she said she didn't have any. Secondly, the last night I was there, upon my return at 11:00 the housekeeping staff had not even made up my bed. My room was not cleaned at all. The next morning I asked for the manager, and was told he wasn't in. I explained how rudely I was treated and the problem with my room and the clerk said she was the one who checked me in and felt I was wrong, that she didn't have a problem and I was the one who did and she was going to review the tapes. I complained about the room, and she told me it was my fault for not calling and saying something then. I said what good was it to complain at 11 at night when all I wanted to do was go to bed. I complained about the rates and got a smart answer about that as well. I didn't realize that as the customer, I had to do the job of the employees or be treated the way I was. This is an expensive Holiday Inn Express and the manager surely needs to look at how his customers are treated or he will lose a lot more business than just mine. January 21, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Wouldn't stay again. I am a meeting planner so i travel to all brands of hotels all over the country. Although right off the highway, this hotel is 15-20 minutes away from a mall and all the restaurants that accompany a mall. The pool and the hot tub should be checked on a regular basis. Went to use hot tub in the afternoon and it was freezing cold. They did start working on it right away but it was not a quick fix and should have been discovered by staff instead of guests. Had to wait about 15 minutes in the morning for breakfast to be re-filled...no sausages, no cinnamon rolls (which HI express are known for). I stayed for a few nights, one of which was New Year's Eve. Many hotels hire private security to wander the halls on such a night. Place was noisy till at least 4am which included 6 police cars outside at about 7pm and police charging down my hallway. I am a Gold Priority Club member and usually enjoy my stays at HI Express...not this time sadly and this was vacation not work :( January 6, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We had a blast We have stayed in dozens of Holiday Inn and HI Express hotels over the years but this one was tops of them all. Not new (e.g. fraying rug in the kitchen area of our room #226, smelly side entrance stairs, leaky windows etc.), we were greeted warmly on the phone, checked-in immediately, helped with simple little requests promptly, swimming pool water was clean and warm, whirpool hot and bubbly - just as it should, newspapers were plentiful, breakfast tasty and the location of this hotel is suberb - right by expressways and number of restaurants and shops. We stayed in new and newer HI hotels before but once the staff is not taking pride in their place of employement, guests notice right away. We will definitely return and recommend our friends, too. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by good but lacking some basics At times I like to kick back and watch my favorite channels but for the last several stays at this hotel for some odd reason they do NOT have a channel guide in the rooms and unfortunately I do not have the Detroit are cable channels memorized. Every time I mention this to the front desk they seem to claim the providers have recently changed and the rooms havent been updated. This is the same response for a couple months and I believe it is plain laziness as all one has to do is spend 30 minutes in front of a tv, note the channels, type it up and make copies.....t December 29, 2012
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Problem with noisy children being left unattended until after 1:30 in the morning. Children were left unattended in the room next to ours and were very noisy. I began complaining at 11:50 and even though security was supposed to be sent to take care of it at that time it took 4 more phone calls and was 1:40 a.m. before they were quite. I was offered a discount off my bill which I took. The assistant manager admitted there was a big problem and they were rewriting their weekend policy because of it. I felt I should have had a full refund. December 15, 2012
